A good strat midgame strat is to grind the depths with trident rod because of the 3x sell value for atlantean mutation + the chance of catching an Ancient Depth Snake. I caught 7 just today
that is quite good but that's really only for mid game, cause trident rod can't keep up with any of the new rods
