Dang, good thing you checked those trailer hubs. Interesting that the spindle nut retainers only failed on the drivers side. Maybe they should make the spindles left hand thread like old mopar lug nuts lol

what is the die actually doing to shrink vs expand?

With shrink the dies grab the material and shove the grain together, and with stretch it is the opposite
