Love my Hennessey Explorer Classic. Bottom entry makes it so easy to get into and it seals right up keeping bugs, critters and tree detritus off of you. The snakeskins are the most logical and coolest idea around. Along with a Tigris winter underquilt, hammocking is a year round plus!
You have to buy an under quilt made special for Hennessy. They have their own insulation they call "super shelter ". Which is a non-breathable shell and a 1" open cell waffle foam. You can add a space blanket too but condensation is a problem.
Even with the bottom entry version, you should be able to manipulate whatever you use in order to still get in. As already mentioned, there is a zipper along the net version, but the reason zippers weren't originally used was to avoid potential failure points. Zipper is a good option for people at campgrounds, but if you are going several hours out on a trail for a day or two, you don't want to risk the zipper getting jammed and your net hanging open all night. To each their own with hammocks, so many out there and so many ways to customize the setup, you figure out what works for you and go with it.
with hurricane Harvey hitting texas . could you do a video about survival for natural disasters. what people might have done wrong and how you would do in tha at situation.
Would be interested to see an extensive of one of the Clark hammocks for comparison. I realize they are a little pricier but I'm a bigger guy at 6' 3" and 240lbs, they seem built for that size. Hey I can ask right?? Thanks again for the review, much appreciated.
I want to get more into hammocks and I bought a cheap 40$ hammock with mesh to keep bugs out and when I am not using the mesh I flip it and use it to relax. I don't really like the Hennessy one since I feel like its sort of limiting (like the opening in the middle) but are there any other good alternative options for relaxing and camping.that you would suggest?
THEHOWLSUN Hennessy has a zipper version. Just as durable but a little heavier and you can enter from the side and use conventional insulation. I've taken mine with the super shelter insulation package down to freezing and it packs as small as a small down bag.
@@michaelhorn9114 not only is it easier to get into and seals completely with your body weight, a bottom entry hammock is a superior type for stealth camping. Slip in... Slip out, get it?
Awesome video, i am a hammock camper myself, so this was extremely helpful. The next time i see my Boy Scout friends i am going to show them this video!
to be honest man,I think hammock camping costs is much better than having a tent that would be a high quality tent because high quality tents that are solo usually will be a minimum of 200 dollars
I have the jungle expedition and had the expedition classic, not sure they are the best but are more popular sadly they are now made in china like everything else
@@dianeibsen5994 generally most prefer the side entry because underquilts and accessories are usually designed for side entry. I would say that only people with mobility issues i.e. someone who can't bend in the middle or has really serious flexibility issues, might get an advantage from bottom entry. Your ability to use your core muscles to get out of a side entry is something that is not really discussed. It's like getting up from a deep lounge chair or out of a low car with bucket seats. Not a problem for most hikers.
Another awesome video David! Not sure if you know this or not, but that shouting thing you did on the first strap was Aboriginal for "Hung like a hammock". Good thing you didn't do the clucky sound at the end, cause that would be illegal.😋
If you're doing a review, at least learn how to use it. This hammock is asymmetrical which means you don't lie end to end, you actually lie almost flat if you lie in it correctly. Plus, if you're using snake skins, the rain fly also fits into them, preventing rain water running down the ridgeline into the hammock. It's fantastic hammock and this video simply doesn't do it justice.
nope.... not for me.... still like my butt in a sling 11' hammock and Kelty Noah tarp.... I have a bug net if i need it... This set up would be fine for small people, but there are a lot better options out there... A LOT better...

Learning a few knots or lashings never hurt anyone and are MUCH lighter ;)
Solid system overall! Hennessy Hammocks are always a solid choice for anyone.
DropForgedSurvival hey sup I watch you
DropForgedSurvival check out the msk-1
How did you tie the knot you attached the carabiners to
huyaa! huuyoaa hutsaa! that was kinda funny

Great video. Especially the sound effects when you attached the first strap. We played back that part several times and the kids laughed every time.
Trevor Cassell Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.
So how do I get out if I've got an uderquilt
Get a jacks r better quilt thats made for this hammock . called the mt washington or something like that
How do you get in and out if you have an underquilt or sleeping pad or even a sleeping bag
You don't. You do what Ed Bassmaster would do...and "just look at it"

Thanx for getting back to me. I appreciate it
Not to mention some Hennessy models have a side zip.

Does the bottom entrance here not effect it if your using bottom quilts
Thanks David!
Really like the style they put into that hammock, makes sense thanks for sharing, great vid

I want to buy the gamo .22 mach Fusion rifle but none of the stores ship to india
Love your idea, but at 1:20 what was that?
Do you need to buy the snake skin separately
How do you keep your boots clean and dry overnight?
Hi David.. what about an under Langley. Can you get one to fit this hammock
Under blanket****
What shoes are you wearing Dave?
That music was intense

Hammock forums
So, how do you lay in it without falling out the bottom. 🤔
stinkydroolface the Velcro is held together under tension of your weight. You have to move your feet and separate it to get it open.
Who would be dumb enough to get a bottom entry hammock?! WAY TO GO COLLEGE EDUCATION!!!!

@@carolinesroadhouse what about an underquilt, or a sleeping pad? Every time you get into it, what, you have to move everything?
Kelly plus, WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. My FIELD AND STREAM DOUBLE HAMMOCK WAS ONLY 30.00! WHAT EVER WORKS FOR YOU THOUGH! HAPPY HANGINGS!
Awesome video, i am a hammock camper myself, so this was extremely helpful. The next time i see my Boy Scout friends i am going to show them this video!
I thought these were expensive , but check out the Crua Hybrid Camping Hammock Tent. ( Yes , I know Hennessys are well made. )
Take a shot of Hennessy every time he says system
Lol, thanks, now I'm drunk!

you explained thid type of camping very well, keep up the good work
I met someone on the trial who’s entire setup weighed less than my straps wich is the same as yours they can be replaced by small rope
I'm not sure what would happen if your rear end ended up around that velcro during the night ? LOL Thanks David
Michael Kilpatrick Good question. It's never just opened up on me.
It has to me, i was strung between two mountains in new zealend and it failed (i was 472 metres up) but i had a net strung under me so i was fine.
Bottom entry hammock just doesn't make sense to me at all!
You'd love it!
I don't think so
Crawling out of the side could be awkward and sometimes dangerous. You might end up head first.
@@philiplongee1149 lol!
Use the big overkill Carabineer but use the thinnest cord🤔 you can't lounge in this hammock, not a good design IMHO
You should make a video on how to make your first survival bag
Do a 22marlin review
You can just buy a cheap as hell "Ticket to the moon" hammock and just build up from there...
Been there. Done that.
I have the jungle expedition and had the expedition classic, not sure they are the best but are more popular

Can you make a survival kit that is airport friendly in order to suvive a plane crash

Hi
Cool
System system system system system system system
So if I understand correctly? -System?
kinda fallin off on production ain't ya Dave.. cause ya never know, till ya know, ya know. See ya on thutha side
Hmmm.... not keen on the Velcro opening.
They have a zipper version too
Beetle juice, beetle juice, beetle juice.
For those that don't like bottom entry Hennessy makes zippered models too but slightly heavier and slightly less compact due to the zipper.
Thank you for sharing this. How would I know if which one I would like?
