  • "A Catracho in America" describes the struggle of a Honduran immigrant when first arriving in the United States, but also, the challenge of learning the culture and language over time.
In this piece, both Honduran and American cultures are portrayed by certain melodies, but the Honduran melodies are more predominant.
This piece begins with a feeling of longing when first leaving the Toncontin/Villeda Morales airports in Honduras.
Later, the American National Anthem, jazz, and country music were all incorporated. Honduran folk music is played throughout the entire piece
and sometimes simultaneously with the American tunes, creating counterpoint melodies that mix up within each culture.
Moreover, small citations from composers from Honduras, " Festival Catracho by Maestro Javier Reyes," and mainly, "Candu, Negrita Para Amarte Nacio Mi Corazon."
This piece was inspired and commissioned by Douglas Flores.
