- Under the God was Tin Machine's first official single. Heaven's in Here was the first single, but not... official. You can tell it was because there's an actual copyright claim. The demo was called Night Train. Which I've just confirmed for myself are what the backing vocals are saying (extremely surprised I was correct...). A good amount of the lyrics weren't written down so it's the best I could do. It is about the 80's rise in neo-Nazism.
Merry Christmas eve.
David Bowie - lead vocals, rhythm guitar
Reeves Gabrels - lead guitar
Hunt Sales - drums, backing vocals
Tony Sales - bass guitar, backing vocals
More true in 2023 than it was in 1989 sadly.
I remember first seeing the video of this in 1989 and thinking "Damn, this is good, and that lead singer is the spitting image of Bowie." I never imagined it actually could have been him. It was so different than anything I had ever heard or seen of him before.
I wish David would have done more Tin Machine stuff, he was on fire during this album! Love his solo work too of course, but I liked his TM stuff a lot!
I love TM as well. Would've liked a third album at least.
Lyrics are pish
I love the album and especially this song.
Outstanding ! You did a Great job on this post Many Thanks
Classic
This song is appropos for our modern American times...2021...
Agree
Sadly yes. I remember when this song came out and did not see what Bowie did. Now I do.
Can't say I disagree.
Yep. Sadly they called it. It’s a trajectory we just can’t seem to overcome. I remember back around the time this came out, skinhead violence and white supremacist compounds were getting a fair amount of media attention, but it was all still kind of viewed as a “fringe” issue. People didn’t really heed the warnings like they should have, and now it has completely infiltrated our government, law enforcement agencies, and it’s even creeping into legislation.
thank you so much!
