I love it too, if only the kids of today knew what we went through to make happen for them. I used to cook a whole chicken, eat off of it for several days, roast or slow cook the bones for stock, make a pot of rice and was in HOG HEAVEN because I had something to eat. A pound of bean, some meat if I could afford it and had a meal, simple beans and cornbread made me happy. God Bless Chef, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, I admire people like yourself, never to proud and always willing to share. Have a wonderful day Sir.
Boy this brings me back… When I first got married I was barely 18 years old and of course my husband was way older than me but he was a schoolteacher and we had so little money and we had a baby on the way and we had so little money and I had to make due by making everything from scratch and I could make everything from 1 pound of ground beef! Porcupine meatballs hamburger pie barley burger stew… those were the good all days to this day my son still loves all those meals they fill you up they’re hearty they’re like a hug from your mother. Xoxoxo thank you for sharing. Thank you for encouraging people to help others Jeffrey I have been doing it for years and do it every day of my life. I always have a kind word of encouragement to everybody I meet. I volunteered for the homeless cutting hair for almost 12 years and it was an absolute joy spreading the love that’s what I call it because there’s always more love to give….#help somebody old school soul food
I think struggling is important -- it builds self-respect, but also empathy. You can feel more for the workers in the back if you're not only eating in the front. I was a nurse's aide in a nursing home all through high school, but I started out washing dishes in the kitchen there. Never will forget it.
😆😆😆 remembering the struggle with a chuckle is one of the simple pleasures of aging. The most selflessly generous people I've met had humble or even harsh backgrounds. Most get crushed or disillusioned by these conditions, but it also produces some the most beautiful diamonds 💎
This meal brings back memories of when we first got married! 💍 Hamburger Helper was on our meal rotaion! We'd have it with a Toss Salad, a slice of buttered bread, 🍞 and Koolade! Our meals included Spaghetti and Meat Sauce, 🍝 Cajun Stir Fry, 🥡 Tuna Helper, and fresh Fried Catfish whenever my husband caught some! 😋 To us, we were eating well at the time! We also had Ramen Noodles 🍜, Beans and Rice, and Manwich Sloppy Joe's!
Hey Chef, how are you? Great I hope. Once again another wonderful video. I love hamburger helper. Thanks for showing us a new and better way to cook it. I will be trying this version soon.
Yes ,my children had all versions of Hamburger Helper, and they loved it ..lol..they all grown now !Thank you for the great memories of way back !!love it ..God bless!
Well today is Saturday I made your hamburger helper meal👍👍👍, if it wasn’t so hot I’d make your pineapple cake, finally got pineapple extract. Maybe I’ll make it later when sun goes down.
Looks delicious Jeffery if we go through the Great Depression again these low costs meals will come in handy. My grandmother made this dish when she wanted something quick she was in the Ladies Auxiliary ministry at her church they had a supper club different ones had dinner at each other's houses. She did pot roast pork loin roasts hams Turkeys and whole Chickens to bake and she did spaghetti and meatballs and home made hamburger helper. But this meal you are making very quick she served it with cornbread salad and jello salads.I loved this meal then and now.You were a great creator coming up with nice recipes.I know you had lots of friends wanting to have dinner with you lol 🤭🤭🤭.It's looks very delicious.thanks for showing and sharing
Looks good I remember eating old 🏫 hamburger helper I will still eat it if I have to. I still eat the things we ate long time ago. Like that. Good old memories. Amen have good old 🏫 soul food day.😋😋😅
I'm a new subscriber I read across your channel Not being able to sleep and I was just looking to UA-cam and I saw under the caption that read Ray Mack Kitchen & Grill is a subscriber to your channel; So I said Let me check them out. I like your concept. I like your honesty. I see that you 100% Real Old School So I will be showing my support. I can tell you one more thing. Am I struggling a day that couldn't even afford to Hamburger Helper? We did it all. By scratch on my mama taught me.
Even cheper if you used a pound bag of pasta garlic onion tomatoe sauce and your own seasoning. My family loved hamburger helper but I would have to make 4-5 boxes at a time and it wasnt cheap then! Love the taco one! Thanks for sharing! Truth~
There's no shame in some good ole hamburger helper! When I was a single mom raising 4 kids, my kids loved cheeseburger mac. I never made it by the box either. It's still one of their favorites.
Yessss...I fed myself in college on meals like this and making Ramen noodles stretch too! My my two kids came along I made it for them too! Got us thru some tight spots 🤗🙏🏽
That looks like a good meal for so little. Nothing wrong with hamburger helper. We're in some hard times now what with people going to food banks and all, so this is a great time to show some good meals that can stretch the $$$$.
Chef Jeff, I love hamburger helper! I know we ate it in a pinch .I am going to try your recipe, looks delicious 😋Everything you make looks delicious!!Stay safe, and thank you for sharing with us all!God bless 🙏🏼💜
Hey, I was happy when hamburger helper came along since I didn't like cooking 🙄. I still eat it to this day. Matter of fact I have a few boxes on hand now. When funds are skimpy it's like having a holiday meal 🤭😉. I can remember having to eat Cush Cush and milk for supper when we were kids by the light from a kerosene lamp. We had some hard times back then, but that's life for a lot of people. You do what you gotta do and keep moving....🥴
Thanks for sharing. Yeah, many of us had to make it on very little funds during our younger years. Food was so much cheaper back then. Wish that those prices were back. It definitely made you creative on figuring how to stretch what you could. The good old days.
LOL! Chef, like you say, survival! I remember those day with fondness. Heck, I was feeding a family of four with this same meal even when I was 40, and it was satisfyingly. Since that time I've made it from scratch over the years. Taught the grands how to put this together while in collage. Although, it seems they prefer Raman Noodles...LOL!
Chef Jeffrey, wow that is a meal with garlic toast. Yes, Hamburger Helper helped to sustain my family for years. I am going to try your Hamburger Helper Hack, it looks delicious. Stay safe.
When you don't have much money growing up you learned to be creative with your food. Some hamburger meat, a can of cream of mushroom soup, mashed potatoes if you was luckily.. if not spread over a couple slices of bread..... Looks great Chef.
I love hamburger helper. My go to was the strogonoff one. And the leftovers I always ate cold. But when I was younger it only lasted 2 meals, maybe that's why I ended up having gastric bypass, lol. Blessings y'all!
That’s what you fix when I had 4 kids single parent raising nieces and nephews. They testifies all the time how they never missed a meal and they never knew what Ramen noodles was until they was adults. Well that’s because I made a package and it was nasty to me so I never fixed. But Hamburger Helper adding extra ingredients like ranch style beans, onions, corn and cheese would make a great meal for a family of 5. ❤️ #helpsomebodyoldschoolsoulfood
From one bachelor to another l would say that God helped you survive too. He helps those who help themselves. I've been there. And still there during COVID-19.
I don't think they had the lasagna flavor back then😊. I loved hamburger helper as a go to poor man's meal. Helped me feed my children on plenty of days😊
🤣❤️👏🏾Loved this memory, Chef and thank you! Back in the day, my mom would fix hamburger helper with corn or green beans on the side and a salad. It was a highlight meal for me! I thought it was something fancy!🤣🤣Much luv to you , Chef🙏🏽🖤
Chef, you took alot of us back with this one. Shoot we all ate this, lol... looks good and I like how you added your own lil twist to it. TFS!!! #helpsomebodyoldschoolsoulfood
Hi Chef Jeffrey, this video brings me back to my big sister's favorite "to go meal" whenever we showed up at her front door, without prior warning to her dinnertime! LOL! #Helpsomebodyoldschoolsoulfood
Good morning Chef Jeffrey, That looks good, I am going to put that in my meal plan, this week.#Old School Help Somebody, 2021.Love you ,be blessed, stay safe &enjoy your day. Love from Lula mae&Family. 💞💞💞💞💞💟💞💞💞💞💞!!!
My mother invented Hamburger Helper! She was making it from scratch! Chili Mac, Cheeseburger Macaroni, and Spaghetti! But she doctored it up! She put onion and garlic, sometimes celery depending on which one she was making at the time! She would make Chili Mac one day and the next day it would be Cheeseburger so on and so forth! She included tomato paste and tomato sauce, along with govt. cheese! But remember this was from scratch! She was trying to feed 5 people on a budget! You said.you couldn't afford milk, my mother kept Pet milk in the house always! A can of Pet Milk was about 25 cents back in the day! I'm a few years older than you, but I remember those days very well!
I love it too, if only the kids of today knew what we went through to make happen for them. I used to cook a whole chicken, eat off of it for several days, roast or slow cook the bones for stock, make a pot of rice and was in HOG HEAVEN because I had something to eat. Amen to that sister. Hard times build character. The characters of some in this generation spells it all.
And do this to this day aonepotmealisalwayshowkeepfoodonmytablenowthatiminmyownhome
Or I'll use egg noodles and the sauce packets for added ingredients

Hey Chef Jeff! I am very familiar with Hamburger Helper meals. We ate it maybe 2 or 3 times a week. You have brought back memories...
When you don't have much money growing up you learned to be creative with your food. Some hamburger meat, a can of cream of mushroom soup, mashed potatoes if you was luckily.. if not spread over a couple slices of bread..... Looks great Chef.

In the 70s hamburger was 39 cents a pound, mom made hamburger steaks, hamburger gravy, tacos and hamburger helper...
