I recently did a Q and A with Sam Mendes at his screening of the cult comedy Waiting For Guffman - it’s a brilliant and little-seen film...

For those of us in the American theatre, this is the Holy Grail (Monty Python or otherwise). We all can quote this ala Rocky Horror. All those wonderful actors in their prime. And yes, as for DVD extras, Parker Posey's audition monologue alone is worth the price of the whole box set. Good for you and Mr. Mendes!

Carl S. i love that outtake. I found it on youtube (along with other Posey scenes) and i watch it regularly.

I recently discovered this film for myself and it's up there with my all-time favourites. Love the soundtrack too. 'Red, White & Blaine' also one of the best musicals ever!

Unimaginative Username You love the filmography of Christoper Guest but haven't seen Waiting For Guffman? It's probably his most well known and iconic piece of work. It'd be like being an Orson Welles fan and never seeing Citizen Kane.

Tate Hildyard that's definitely solidified my recommendation, thanks

The UK R2 DVD release is in the wrong ratio and has no extras, so no deleted scenes

The sound is always very low for these videos, would be really nice if it was a bit louder

I love Christopher Guest films and the actors he uses.
    Parker Posey is brilliant.
Right about the knifes edge...One of the outakes is the Parker Posey’s audition. Its so dark. I still think its hilarious. A Mighty Wind has some of that darkness too.
“Whos on top and whos on bottom now?!?”

Christopher Guest as a 'mockumentary' (I know he hates the term) director basically started out amazing and then got progressively worse with each film

Charlie Panayiotou disagree. A Mighty Wind is the best of the lot (imo)

I wouldn't say worse, per se. However, in using a somewhat repetitive formula, there's certainly a case for diminishing returns with each chronological film. Spinal Tap, Guffman and A Mighty Wind are 3 standouts, but Best in Show, For Your Consideration and Mascots all suffer from feeling far too similar. I've yet to see 'The Big Picture' (A 1989 co-write) or his TV show, Family Tree.
