I wonder if those notches in the corner of the brackets are not meant to go on the bottom to allow for the silicone that is in the corners of the bottom?
When I ordered it, I don’t recall it mentioning those angles at all so I was a little confused by them. It quite possibly could have been for that reason and I wish I would of thought of it. My assumption was that it went at the top to avoid having a sharp edge exposed when someone adds/removes the sponge. In my case it’s not a huge deal since I will have substrate but if someone were running them bare bottom it may create a better seal.
Kripke The Chameleon & Friends yes I remember, thought I subbed you back then but who knows what happened. Looks like you have a lot of content that I need to catch up on though.
One of my favorite channels for sure. Love the way you take us through each step. You make it look so easy it will definately encourage others to give these things a shot. Great video bud.
Thanks I really appreciate that. I tried to model my videos kind of after Cory from aquarium co-op because I enjoyed his early content so much. Thing is I don’t always know if I’m doing well because of view count so your words of encouragement mean a lot to me.
@@AquaApprentice I don't worry about view count. A video like that folk may not necessarily gravitate towards unless they are thinking of attempting also so they can be slow burners. From a outside point of view though if I were to be trying this I would be able to follow your example perfectly. Not so sure I'd be trying to model myself on anyone else if I were you. You have good knowledge and experience plus an awesome personality and great delivery. Your videos are great.
Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave thanks, I tried to capture everything even though it’s not super exciting 👍. Also your always welcome to come back and watch all my videos 😂
prolificbreed they have a lot of benefits to them and I have them hooked up to an air pump that’s not even that strong so I say give it a shot. Only downsides on them I would say is they are a little pricey unless you find the material yourself and you can’t move your filter to another tank.
If you wet your finger you can run it over the silicone and the silicone will not stick to your finger.. that will give you a nice clean edge. (something I learnt from running a handyman service for many yrs).
ReRun I have heard this from a lot of people so I had to try them. I have bought the cheap Chinese stuff and was very disappointed with how fast it clogs.
Most people use 30 I think. These filters are much more popular in Germany and that is what most seem to go with. You can use 45 as well but it will need cleaning more often. Though I ran 45 in a shrimp tank for about a year before I cleaned it.
Hello Joan. Yes my tanks are drilled but that is not necessary for the filter to work. Just pulls water from one side of the sponge to the other for it to work and would be installed the same way.
NYGOLD thanks I will be doing the six 20 longs. Those will be the ones I try to set up like display tanks. The 10’s will just be sponge filters and probably bare bottom for the most part. I am undecided on the rest.

You are correct
I'm glad to see you're back Frank. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Kripke The Chameleon & Friends good to see you too. Honestly I thought you were gone as well....don’t know what happened but I am subbed now for sure.
@@AquaApprentice Thanks brother I appreciate it, I've been subscribed to you ever since I've done that Jadren Sticker video over a year ago👍

Is swiss tropicals open anymore? I can't find a working website.
Very clear video, came out great Frank. Definitely will be coming back and watching again when I play around with matter filters

Always wanted to try these ...

Aqua Apprentice yea for sure the price put a stop to me buying but they should last forever
prolificbreed that’s what I am thinking so really is worth it.
How do you measure where to glue glass upright frame?

Tim G great tip I will definitely have to try this.
Did urs stick out a little in the compartment ?? Is that normal or didn’t cut it enough
One of my favorite filters! Thanks for sharing
They look great and just need air so no complaints here. Thanks Que
Cool filter
Thanks for visiting my channel thirsty. Feel honored to have ya.
Why did you put the line from the marker inside the glass, now there is green under the silicon forever...
And you put the glass strips upside down????
Their foam and jet lifter are by far the best on the market. Way better than any diy matten filter

What’s better 20 ppi or 30ppi ? Does it really matter

Great help thanks for posting
No problem, glad it was helpful.
Great video! Is your tank drilled/ or can you use this filter on a regular tank?
Hello Joan. Yes my tanks are drilled but that is not necessary for the filter to work. Just pulls water from one side of the sponge to the other for it to work and would be installed the same way.
Hi @AquaApprentice! 😊 Very nice mat filter.
Thanks they have been working great so far.
Nice job!!! How many tanks are you going to do like this?
NYGOLD thanks I will be doing the six 20 longs. Those will be the ones I try to set up like display tanks. The 10’s will just be sponge filters and probably bare bottom for the most part. I am undecided on the rest.
