Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- This is a beginner's guide to ice fishing. I cover safety, tackle, and techniques to connect with fish thru the ice in Washington state. The trout were on the feed and I took advantage of it to help illustrate some important lessons and tips about ice fishing.

your channel is the best fishing channel for us here in WA. Can't wait to go ice fishing for the first time!
Grew up in Utah and didnt fish. Moved to Seattle and became an avid multi-species angler but never considered ice fishing ( never made it on my radar ) Move back to Utah 2 years ago and ice fishing has become my latest passion and one of the best and informative resources happens to be a PNW guy. Thanks man, you are inspiring and its awesome how forthcoming and selflessly you share the information. Always eerily lonesome those lakes you fish. My kind of serenity!!
Getting ready to go fish that lake tomorrow.
Thanks for a little insight.1-4-2023.
Definitely a good time no matter what.
Hopefully they got it plowed out it wasn’t several weeks ago
Awesome fish! And Great fish handling skills.
Definitely don’t want to give up the coordinates of that lake. Nice video.
Those are some GORGEOUS fish! They’re my state fish (MI) but I haven’t caught one yet. I mostly get crappie, Perch, and gills on the ice. Went out for walleye last year and brought home a limit of catfish instead.
Your info on ice rods was very helpful! Thank you for making this easy to learn and understand!
More videos! Keep it up. Good content. Thanks. I'll be out there soon. You're the guy who planted the ice fishing idea.
I use and love Berkeley fire line. I attach with a double uni knot and a fluoro leader. I fish South Park Colorado, 11 Mile, Antero and The Dream Stream. We have extreme temps. I ice fished yesterday starting temp was -11 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice was at 8-12 in thick black ice. A few times I encountered ice on my line of maybe 4-6 in long sections. Hold in my warm hand and it melts quickly. My fluorocarbon ices up more. Ps people keep your line ice free. You might lose a fish because of ice on your line. We use 1/16 to 1/8 ounce jigs. You fish very similar to us here in Colorado Love the video.
Excellent video. I have no experience with ice fishing living in southwestern VA and this was very informative. Thanks again!
i love brookies!! great fish buddy!! that one was especially gorgouse!
Another great video. Very coplete and professional. Keep em commin'.
New to your channel! Love the videos, keep it up and thank you for sharing!
Nice video, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I have a big ol' scar on my leg from an ice auger, good advice!
killer video keep up the great work!
Great video, thanks!
Awesome video! By any chance have you tried fly fishing the lake?
As always, really great video. Thank you,
Those are huge brookies for Washington!
I'm from San Antonio. I think I would have a hard time being comfortable in snow covered fishing. Good information however.
This is great information! Love your videos. im from the west side of the mountains. I want to start ice fishing. Is there website/list of lakes that are good for ice fishing and/or that have ice depth so I dont waste the day driving all the way over there?
If you are active on Facebook check out the Washington Ice Fishing group. I regularly update the ice conditions on dozens of lakes across the region on that group. There are some options in the mountains and many more in the northcentral and northeast parts of the state. Fish Lake near Leavenworth is the closest to the Seattle metro and popular for that reason but it is not yet frozen.
Spilt Milt Productions hey I was wondering where this is at me a buddy are really big fishermen and we are trying to start ice fishing and we wanna catch brooks through the ice and this place looks amazing and it would really help us out!
Spilt Milt Productions ...thanks!
Frostbite has a 50 inch rod which I think is a bit overkill
Awesome video, great pacing and helpful information. I like that you interspersed the catching with the information. Any suggestions on resources to find locations? Im in western wa so guessing a weekend trip over the mtns would be in order.

Looks like some nice Genes there in the Pool !
Hey, I was wondering where you get those sensitive fishing tips that is on the end of your rod? Also, How do think a bait cast reel would do on a ice rod?
Where were you fishing at for the Brookies?
where do you ice fish most of the time? I'm really wanted to go ice fishing this year and get a few nice fish.
All across NE Washington
is there still enough ice to fish?@@spiltmilt
Tons: Curlew, Patterson, Bonaparte, Leader, Sidley, Molson, Gillette, Thomas, Bead, Rat, Green, just to name a few.
thanks man! do any of these lakes you listed have largemouth or smallmouth?
@@PNWBassin just look it up haha
Be safe on the ice👍
That be really kool with a under water cam
What cold weather gear do you use for ice fishing?
From bottom to top:
Feet: Undersock synthetic with heavy marino wool sock over the top. Arctic Ice Muck Boots
Legs: Base layers I use synthetics (polyester or fleece).Mid-layer is Patagonia Nano-puff pants. Ice Armor Clam bibs
Core: Base layers I use synthetics (polyester or fleece). Mid-layer long sleeve breathable shirt & fleece pullover. Eskimo Lockout Jakcet
Head & Neck: Polar fleece Buff, Wool baseball cap, and acrylic watch cap over the top if needed.
Do you know where I can find a cheap auger
Can I just use a landscape digging bar? They weight about 15 lbs and is 69" long.
Sounds like a good spud bar!
or what part of washington
why do you need to see the bite if you are holding the rod and jigging? is it possible to not feel the bite even if the fish is there?
With heavy gloves on and light biting trout its very easy to miss the "feel" of the bite.
What region of Washington? Going to central for school and looking for good fishing places when im not procrastinating for homework😂
North-cental around Omak and Brewster
I live In the king county area anyone know of ice fishing areas near there
Your closest bet is Fish Lake near Leavenworth
@@spiltmilt thanks, that's kinda what I figured down here it doesn't get cold enough and if it does it will rain
What lake
The literal example of freezing your ass off. ;)
