    The Philips antenna you used in the video works great in my apartment to pull in 99 percent of the local TV stations in my market from 30 miles away. I bought it when you originally reviewed it. I am going to buy one of the 7 inch Tyler portable TVs to use in an emergency and use it when I attend Tennessee Titans games.

    I have a similar portable TV like this but not a Tyler brand, it’s the Supersonic brand. The two big takeaways that the Tyler TV offers over the Supersonic is the FM radio and HDMI port. I can attest that the built in tuner works great for the Supersonic and that I have had this TV for about 9 years now and it is still works. I hope the Tyler brand stands up as well as Supersonic.

    I have the Tyler 14" Widescreen portable TV. It's for emergencies only. I don't watch TV. It picks up every nearby TV station in my area. The picture quality is excellent if sitting directly in front of the screen. The quality diminishes as you move to either side, or try to watch it while standing. It has great sound and is very easy to use. It also has a built-in FM radio that picks up nearby radio stations very well. I listen to football games with it during football season. If you like music, it's great for that too. I recommend this Tyler 14" Widescreen TV to anyone looking for a small TV for camping, for use in an RV or for emergencies.

    Nice. I've always thought it would be neat to duct tape an antenna to a car, have the coax cord run through the window on the door, and have it hooked up to a portable TV to see what stations I get as I travel. Obviously someone else would have to drive.

      I'll give you a hint, get your newly licensed ( at least 6 months ) son to drive you around while you check for channels and receptions. They love to drive around when they get their license. But, before or after rush hours for a smother ride. I got my little sister to drive me around for a week, best driving practice she ever had.

    I don't use this type of device because I don't use them often enough and the battery goes bad. Instead I bought a couple of the tuner dongles that plug into a tablet or phone. That better fits my personal needs. Very interesting the Antenna Man has a similar experience. I'd say it's the nature of these devices and not the fault of any single brand.

    That Phillips antenna works great in my heavily stacked VHF area, with the exception of one stubborn high VHF ABC station that comes and goes. Going to give Televes Innova Boss Mix indoor antenna a try to see if it'll give me luck locking my local ABC station in as I see Menards is now selling Televes antennas in store.

    Hey Antenna Man, thanks for your videos, but I have one question. What is your personal antenna setup? My family is tired of paying so much for cable and we want to go to OTA with the best experience possible, going to every TV in the house.

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  Рік тому +4

      My personal antenna setup doesn't really matter. What I have won't necessarily work well at your location. It all depends on how strong and weak the signals are. That being said, you can find a list of recommended antennas below:
      www.amazon.com/shop/antennaman

      Remember, you OWN the existing cable wiring in your home, no matter who installed it. That wiring can also be used to distribute the signals from your antenna- with some considerations.

    Great review, Tyler! One thing I remember from one of your older videos is that ATSC 1.0 tuning is meant for stationary televisions. When you move the tv/antenna around, you’ll lose the signal until the tv is stationary again, and will need antenna adjustments. Is that still true? Thanks! Anthony

    I received an identical TV for Christmas, except it is under the Naxa brand. The screen text is the same, the buttons are the same and the inputs are the same, including the recessed antenna input. I found the tuner sensitivity to be poor. I connected it using a push connector like you recommended to the same antenna with the same cables and it got only the strongest channels and doesn’t get other channels that I get with every other TV that I have. I’ll try exchanging the Naxa for the Tyler since that contrasts with your experience; I’m guessing it’s hit or miss with the quality. It looks like it can be used with a tripod shoe for mounting to a camera and you might be able to use it to convert HDMI to composite, in case you would ever need to do that.

    This TV has a flaw that it always tunes the secondary SAP/MTS channels audio if present, it doesn't tune in the first primary audio of the main channel by default... It won't remember this choice. It's dead annoying to always have to hit the audio button selection on the tiny membrane remote every time you tune back to a channel that has secondary audio present. I haven't figured out what the solution is to fix this. Other than it's a bug in the software you can't fix.. Some channels this might not be noticeable because they duplicate the same audio on their secondary, but often only in mono and lower audio levels as is typical of SAP/MTS audio. Or it's silent because the channel only passes on network SAP audio, like CBS has present during primetime, but again, single channel mono feed. I wonder if the larger 13" and 16" versions of this TV have the same issue.
    This TV uses a TN panel that has very limited viewing angles, so that's why it get's off color the further you go to any side, including up or down. They should have gone with an IPS panel for best viewing angles; you would think that is more important with a small TV as viewing angles will be more extreme the smaller the TV get's unless you like to put your head right next to the other person holding the TV. Even a VA panel would have been a huge improvement..

On the days that is was predicted to have storms go through I would make sure it was on the charger. It really helped when the power went out, but I can still watch live radar on the news unfortunately phones don't cut it due to cell phone towers can go out too. Well mine broke down after years of service. You letting us know how well the battery charge last was helpful so I'll need to get a nice large battery pack (100~200Wh) for the TV which ever size I get. Last time we had a tornado we ere out of power for 12 hours so it'll be worth the investment. I'm looking to get the 16" personally, but I may also get the 7" too for signal spot checking.

      The TVs are ATSC 1.0 and will work for a long time. They are not going to be obsolete anytime soon. We are still in the very very early stages of ATSC 3.0. It's not replacing the current TV standard for at least 10 years. There's even a chance the whole thing might flop. See post below. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbYLebI9jgKoubRNZKrWO4fcq0e-c041r

    Does anyone know if this has overscan? I thought that would be all but eliminated on most TVs today.

    After a scan, can you add channels manually by RF channel?
    I have a little portable that sucks because if you manually go to a channel and it does not decode a digital channel, it reverts to analog and memorizes it as an analog channel even if you later get in range of the digital station. Then you must do a complete LONG re-scan!
    Does it have an analog tuner?

    Can you hook up a VCR or DVD player to this? And will it support Roku? Thanks in advance.

    Just picked me up one. I wonder if it’s opened up. A wires cut to the original battery if a slightly higher rechargeable mAh battery roughly the same be put in the place the factory one sat a soldered an heat shrink to the wires. An get a little more run time out of it.
    I’m going to have to check it out. Even if it takes a tiny bit of dremmel work to remove a touch of plastic to fit a higher rated battery in it.
    I’ve done it with a few rechargeable items. That some reason even though. They could have done it in factory. They went with a weaker battery.
    Definitely going to have to check that out. A report back to this comment an edit. For anyone else that may be curious. An have the know how to do the same.
    And post up whatever battery part number I may locate that can fit the build

    Can the batteries be replaced once they don’t hold a charge anymore? I’ve owned a Tyler tv in the past, and threw it away because I couldn’t replace the battery. I’m looking for a tv that will last at least one year.

    I have one of these I bought a year or so ago. I can't find the users manual. Is there a download anywhere for it? I also can't locate the remote. Is it really needed to operate it? Last, I haven't found the FM tune in the menu at all. Where can I find it?

    just bought the 13 inch tv monitor interesting tv the display is good but the only downfall that i came across from my time of use is the battery run time not sure if it's the brightness default is draining the battery quick the only settings i touched was just the scan and that's it but seems like the battery run time wasn't long before i had to charge it again and the antenna that comes with it not the rubber duck antenna the mag mount one seems to be horrible at receiving some channels that i have to keep moving it around whenever i want to change channels even if i go to a channel and the transmitters for that channel is 3 miles from my house i keep having to move it around just to get that channel compared to my other one that is currently connected to my airtv 2 where i don't have to relocate that one but i apparently have to for the one that comes with the device might have like 1/2 mile coverage or something but seems like i might need to get another better one than what i have for the monitor now but not a bad monitor dispite the very bad antenna's that it comes with

    Could this tv be realistically used if you were in a car?

    • @AntennaMan
      @AntennaMan  Рік тому +4

      Only when the car is stationary. The current TV standard cannot be picked up in motion.
