Fr Water has to be the most beautiful and flexible element to have in terms of creativity. I'm surprised there's no Job dedicated to using Water-based spells.
Doesn't even have to be a magic user. It could be a Tank creating defensive geysers, melee DPS using weapons made out of water, ranged DPS using a literal water gun, or a Healer with Water-based healing techniques. My only guess would be that creating good water animations is a headache.

awesome stuff. Thank you for finally making Thunder into an actual bolt of lightning. I think I'll be taking your replacements for that, and Xeno -> High Holy, along with Amplifier. Replacing the fire and ice spells though feels like it would mess with me in terms of rotation and keeping track of things haha.
That's honestly something I'm worrying about 😂 Especially because single target, you switch over with Water/Aero, but AoE you still switch over with Blizzard/Fire.

I don't know if someone has mentioned this or not but when doing low level content you still end up seeing umbral ice 1& 2 and astral fire 1 & 2. I really love the mod and have used it for at least a month now but I was just wondering if you planned on changing the previous umbral and astral stances. Love your work and hope to see more!

Really hoping the next new Jobs have flashy skills like these ones. I know the point of different Jobs is to have their own magic types, but it wouldn't hurt if pre-existing magic types were given to other Jobs too. Imagine having a Job that can mix elements together, like Water and Thunder would create a powerful shock DoT. Or Fire and Wind to deal multiplied damage.

Going by the elemental wheel, Wind/Fire/Water as Astral and Earth/Lightning/Ice as Umbral would probably be a nicer split since those are the elements generally associated with each polarity. Alternatively there's the traditional Black/White split of Fire/Ice/Lightning and Water/Earth/Wind.
Still this fits the Elementalist feeling that I always thought BLM was missing!
6.4 gave even more validity to this mod, given that we see Shatotto's soul in P9 and she uses Aero magic
i know this is from 5 months ago, but i'm actually pretty certain that's Ixtab, one of the shb s ranks! that voice uses a significant amount of her quotes
@@bonsaibnuuy Interesting theory, but wouldn't Ixtab's soul be in a different Aetherial Sea to the one that Kokytos was ripping it's souls from, since it was on the first?
Minfilia and Emet's souls were explicitly moved from the first's lifestream to the source's by Hydaelyn, but I can't imagine she'd do the same for Ixtab

I love this but I was wondering, is it not possible to change the casting animation? The Black Mage glows the colour of the spell element, normally. But since this is not adjusted, here we have them glowing red for a wind spell, for example.

Nice! I made mod like this too once, though it was much less refined and I wasn't satisfied with it. The umbral/astral motes in particular look really good, and all the spells have the right BLM energy to make them look like they belong to the job. Personally I'd probably miss flare and don't know how to feel about holy, but overall this looks like a great package. Well done!
By the way, any plans for Paradox?

I do have a question though: why is water in Umbral and fire in Astral?
Thank you so much! Love your work as well. To answer your question, The fire phase spells are all aero stone & fire, and the ice phase spells are water and ice (thunder is just out there lol), so it seemed like the right fit to split the orbs that way.
@@MaxValparaiso I mostly meant that isn't Aero, Stone, and Water normally associated with astral while fire, thunder, and ice umbral? Or am I screwing up my lore?
@@sortofarbitrary6688 Ahh, the way I understand it each can go either way? I'm not 100% on that but I don't think it's that as strictly defined as all that. The original buffs are Astral Fire III & Umbral Ice III, at any rate.
@@MaxValparaiso oh I think you're right. I guess it's just we usually associate them with astral and umbral since they are split between white and black mage that way. It works really well no matter how you decide to split them.
Fire, lightning, and wind are commonly astrally polarized since astral is about activity and destruction, whereas ice, water, and earth are commonly umbral, associated with stasis
Personally would've preferred the animations to match their polarities but either way it's purely aesthetics 😅

hey i got a little question, i've installed the mod but somehow my icons aren't changing? do you have a clue why that is?
Hey there! I was just digging through this mod myself, turns out the pathway in the mod is maybe wrong! I had to go into my mods folder and drag everything out of the Gray Mage Ability Icon mod folder out into the Mods folder. It's either that or I had my groups configured incorrectly. I changed both at the same time so I'm not sure!
Mod like that who are just cosmetic is in my opunion the only mod that can be allowed

This is a very cool and beautiful mod. The only issue I have with it is the orbs. It looks like you reversed Lightning and Earth. Earth is Umbral and Lightning is Astral, in the video it's reversed. Still its beautiful. I want these spells now.
I imagine they had to take some liberties due to Thunder spells already falling kinda anywhere, as opposed to only during Astral Fire phase. I personally might have replaced Despair with High Holy, and Xeno with Stone IV, just to not disrupt the theming. I still think this is cool AF tho.😊
@@spoinkable2217 not sure any liberties were needed/used. It's just the Umbral elements and the Astral elements. The elements would still follow the same pattern.

in the actual lore Fire, Wind and Ice are Astral, while Water, Lighting and Earth are Umbral. As such lighting is in the correct phase, but ice and earth are swapped. The class symbol used in the video only represents the in game assignment of elements to White and Black Mages, not Astral and Umbral alignment.
@@donkiwi4888 The chart we see in Shadowbringers literally depicts which elements are Astral and which are Umbral. What you are thinking of is known as the Three Conquests (Earth, Lightning, Water) and Three Submissions (Fire, Ice, Wind) which are the triangles you see in the depictions of the Elements. It should be noted that each element does have both aspects, it's just where their natural alignments are. Like Astral aligned Fire would be actual flames, but Umbral aligned would be the desert heat. The First lore book gives these examples and explanations.

I won't run mods because I feel like I skate the line enough by running the game on linux, but the gfx's are absolutely beautiful and I would install it otherwise.

Yes and no
It is possible in FF2 and FF5, but it because of how those two games works
FF2 let anyone use anything without a real restriction aside from not having more than 16 spells learned at once on a singular character so you could slap holy on your dedicated black magic user, it probably won't hit as hard as your other spells, but it is possible
And FF5 have the job system that allow you to use skills from other jobs if leveled enough, so if your white mage is high enough, you could switch them to black mage and give them the white magic skill

One thing kinda kills the deal… there is not near enough differentiation between umbral and astral stages by the coloring of their respective orbs… remember, battles can get heated with all sorts of crap filling the screen… so such subtle differences would have me wondering what state I was in when I need to be concentrating on the battle.
