This video on how to prune Japanese Holly Selectively has all the information you need to get started.
5:43 this is an excellent shot right here. I didn’t notice that these bushes can probably be trained in different ways
It seems like the laterals that come off of the main shoot ( right hand side), if trained like climbing roses, can create a privacy in their own right. In this moment of the video, this portion grew horizontally, creating vertical laterals.
Versus the laterals, closest to his finger, which grew vertically, creating one or two leaves off the cane.
Thank you for all of your expertise and education this video
Great video. You're very good at explaining the process!
I really enjoyed this video and have been searching for additional details on how to repair a leggy Compacta Holly. All of the branches are bare for the first 2-3 feet and I would like to prune to repair.
Another good vid. Thanks
what is wrong with using hedgers?
I think we have those on the side of our property my dad cut them down a wail ago but since they started to grow above the bottom of the windows and after after winter the greened then they all turned yellow I'm not sure since we had some warm days then a freak snow storm so I'm not sure if the freeze goofed with the plants but it's been a few weeks since it happened and they are still yellow but some of them are a little green
Ok will they bounce back?
ok i will try that next time im buy the bushes
Is it ok to plant them at the end of the summer? NY weather.
is the japanese holly easy to root
Thanks. I had a few get away from me (huge). And pruned them down to the stem, will they come back or should I just get now ones?
