- This is the second seashell mirror I've made and I'm definitely learning a thing or two as I complete these projects. In this video I learn what I like and dislike about mirror blanks, which glue works best for what and how I'm going to go about making my next mirror.
It can be a perfume tray as well if you lay it flat.
Love it!
I've found mirrors 75% off at Hobby Lobby and just cover the frame with my own shells.....came out beautifully with all white scallops shells and the white spiny jewel box shells for fillers! Love yours too😁
If I strike out at the thrift stores I'll keep this in mind!
I’ve done mirrors, picture frames, and boxes. The mirrors have been actual thrifted mirrors, not the blank you’ve described. E-6000 is my go-to, but found each layer needs to cure. Not sure about the Beacon, but the E-6000 has quite the fume. I’ve avoided the hot glue as it isn’t as permanent.
Thanks for the tips!
That’s lovely, like it a lot. Very tasteful. I like to use E6000 for its strength but also add hot glue for the instant grab. I’ve found that hot glue alone can go a little brittle with time but the E6000 holds firm. Still a lovely project and inspiring me to get a wiggle on with my own projects. Hugs and stay safe xx
Such a beautiful seashell mirror. I love that you mixed so many lovely colors instead of using similar colors. This mirror could be hung anywhere. ♥️
Thank you so much!
Beautiful Seashell frame for mirror Sharmon. When I made them for sale, I used the glue like Beacon for durability, but the hot glue for instant grab. I had people buy them and place it outside (no matter what the tag said, like indoor use only) so just hot glue will be a drippy mess in summer. Have fun with your cigar box, I look forward to seeing it and Sunday's video!
Gorgeous! You have an artist's eye. BTW, I've got one of those pressboard blanks with shells, and it's held up fine for 15 years, except for one shell that was lost when I dropped it -- no problem, just glued another in its place.
Thank you for letting me know! I figure if I do see another, I'll snag it!
I’ve been making shell mirrors for decades and love the E6000. I find the shells gradually fall off with the hot glue gun. I also brush with polyurethane to bring out the colors of the shells. Can’t wait to see your cigar box!
I'm going to dip shells in acid for my next mirror! I actually learned quite a few things on this round.
I want to hear more about the cigar box!
Great job!! It turned out beautiful, I have a few mirrors waiting to be done, I fell a while back, my left arm is in a cast and right wrist in brace, just got stitches out of my head last week and left leg got tore up, so my crafting and driving is on hold, good news my son and grandaughter are fling in Wednesday and we are heading to Florida shelling, life is good and exciting, thank you so much for sharing and have a wonderful week
Oh my goodness - I am sorry to hear about all your injuries! Get those creative juices flowing so you can use all the shells you're going to find when you're all healed up!
Nice! I wanna try that, too. I have shells galore and never knew really how to use them, but you gave me the greatest idea! Thank you! P.S. And I have tons of cigar boxes collected over the years, too. It'll be a nice relaxing craft to do!
Thank you for showing what you are doing with some of your shell collection, very beautiful shell mirror 🪞
Thank you so much 😊
Yours is very attractive. I did one a couple of years ago and I treasure it. I would go with bigger shells if I did it again. I used a mirror from a household sale.❤😊
Thank you for showing the peos & cons of covering a frame with Shells.. Love finding a new Glue.. Agree with the suggestion to use Sturdier frame..
Turned out beautifully!
Very Pretty!! Thanks for sharing with us.
This is gorgeous.. I agree... its heavy so I'd worry too.. here in ca especially.. even solid picture frames could be in jeopardy sometimes
I love it ❤. And so glad you said cigar box! I need more shells now 😂
First time visiting your channel, I'm loving it! I would love to see how you organize your seashells and your crafting space!
As a matter of fact, I recently completed a video about my collection: ua-cam.com/video/5vq9DJbCJDA/v-deo.htmlsi=UsnaEM_Goq2QLO08
I have not shared my crafting space, but I will eventually!
@@SWFBeachLife yay, thank you!!!
I’ve been wanting to do this thank you! 🐚
Very pretty
Thank you! 😊
Hi Sharmon,
The mirror is stunning!❤
Wow, it really is so gorgeous!
I do understand that the frame probably is too light for the number of shells on it.
Personally, I love Beacon 3 in 1. I use it for miniature making and it's an instant grab. Never found a glue that works so well for that purpose.
Maybe it's not working as well due to the type of material? I mean, a shell is something different than a piece of wood.
But you managed it! And the hot glue is always good.
Hopefully we don't have to wait 6 months until the cigar box is done. LOL😂.
Just kidding, take your time!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Big hug and lots lots of love, xoxo ❤, Ilona
I stumbled upon another glue and technique I'd like to try. The cigar box project will be a perfect test subject!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful ❤
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful!!!!!!
I use hot glue and it works amazing. I don't like glue that leaves stringys.
That was a fun project and it turned out beautifully.
Thank you!!!
So very pretty !! Inspires me to consider trying one !
Thanks Sharmon, I make things like this as well and using canvas with resin. Beautiful job!
Thank you!!!
I’m always looking for projects to use my shells for and this one I really like. Some things look a little too gaudy for me. Keep the ideas coming!!
I know what you mean about gaudy. Not all shell projects appeal to me 😉
Thank you for this video! You just inspired my next craft!!!
Happy crafting!
Hello. Good Evening 😊😊 Happy Friday 🐚🐚
It looks fabulous!
I love that. Thank you for sharing.
You done a superb job on getting it
all EVEN❤
When I move to FL, I will glue shells on my walls😂….husband says NO.
I'm envisioning how beautiful that wall would be!!! 😍
Great job!❤️
Thank you so much 😀
I use tub and tile caulking. It’s great. You can buy clear online. I use it for Christmas trees also. On the curved surface you will have to let it dry before turning it. And it does not smell!
OOOoooooo. If I decide to make bigger stuff I might just give that a try!
Soooo much lovely 😻
Thank you! 😊
That is a creat way to display the Shell's. Good idea for all the Shell's in the bottle's and draws 's. 👍
Very beautiful 💞💞
Thank you so much 😊
@@SWFBeachLife You are very welcome 🤗🤗
Gorgeous
I made a wreath of sea shells for the front door 🚪 glued to styrofoam……..it would look 👀 great on your door 🚪!!!
Fun project!
Stunning ❤
Thank you! 😊
very pretty. gonna put this on my bucket list.🎉
Thanks for the tips! I am struggling the type of glue that sticks to my 🐚 projects.
You are so welcome!
I never heard or knew of mirror/frame blanks either. I also noticed it seems to be made of cardboard, am I right? Is it really strong enough to handle all the weight of the shells? I’m surprised so many people use the same glue I do. E600 is excellent for shells. This glue is my best friend-and you use it too! I usually glue the shells directly on the mirror. Maybe it’s stronger to hold all the shells? I’ve also got a cigar box from a thrift store I plan on doing with shells. Can’t wait to see how you do yours!
I haven't done it yet, but I was going to poke around and see if there were other types of "blanks" I might be able to use. The blank I used was fine for that mirror, but if I had chosen larger shells it would have been an issue. Already looking at my cigar box and planning!!
Beautiful, but why did you put two upside-down?
I like the inside of the shells too 🥰
I have a ways to go before gluing any shells on anything. First, I have to clean them. Did you mention I an earlier video that you cleaned your shells with bleach? Or was it with Hydrogen Peroxide? Thank you, again.
These shells were going on just the way they were, but moving forward, I'm going to clean some of my broken shells do they pop a bit more on the next project.
@SWFBeachLife Sharmon, you mentioned in one of your previous videos how you clean your shells that really made them look great, but I didn't write it down. Was it peroxide you used, or was it bleach? I thank you so much!
@@grizzleegurr7421 I use bleach for shells and hydrogen peroxide for sand dollars. I’ve made different videos for cleaning these beach treasures 😃
Thanks for showing us your technique on justifying having thousands of shells lol
Basically 🤣🤣🤣
Do not use glue gun. Recipe for disaster. You need to be patient and let each layer cure for 24 hours. I would use clear gorilla glue. Use the blank to trace shape on a thin butt durable finish plywood. With the value of the shells it’s worth doing it right.
Love using the glue gun with Gorilla glue sticks. I’ve made 3-4 of them. They’ve turned out really nice!
