Thanks so much for putting this video up for us! I met you at Denver Quilt Market about 1990 and bought the templates. I made 4 quilts and had a concussion (TBI)in 1999. I had a rather long recovery and have been scared to make the 5th quilt that I had started to cut out in 1999 before my wreck. So this video has given me the courage to get it finished. Thank you for wonderful templates and for sharing the detailed how to.

I just found my templates in a sewing room clean-out... along with a DWR quilt started in probably 1988! I was looking for the instructions, and thought I might find them online - thank you for this video! I made a small wallhanging when I first bought your templates (I think at the Great American Quilt Festival in NYC in the '80s), but didn't get very far with the larger quilt that my husband's been asking for ever since. Now I have no excuse - must finish it!

I have managed to do my melons without pinning. I match the centers and sew from the center out. I also lay the "smile" side down and put the inner melon on top then I carefully let the pieces join together to the ends.
For those of us that hate pinning, this is a good solution.

Shar, I honestly think that you are the best quilting teacher ever. You make watching so enjoyable and your easy patient manner is both soothing (I am a rushed person) and exciting at the same time.
I have learned so many new ways of finishing seams, especially points.
Now, I do have a question. I am looking for a 5 pointed star pattern and no one seems to have a 5 pointed star. My son-in- law is due a quilt, and he is from Texas, ergo the 5 pointed star. Do you think that you could demonstrate a 5 pointed star? Thank you.

I have your templates and book, thinking of making a scrappy in 30's fabric. I haven't studied the book yet, was wondering if it tells how wide to cut each strip? Your video makes it look easy. I hope so. lol.

give amount of fabric yardage to make queen size DWR quilt?

  • @quiltingfromtheheartland3063

The strips are cut the length of the template instead of the width to save fabric. Stack up to six scraps on top of one another when cutting scraps. I like having all the cutting done before starting and all blocks will be the same size with this method.

I remember watching your program on PBS in the early 90's. I noticed that this video has been edited slightly. I bought your templates and book over 20 years ago. Still haven't made the DWR though. lol I will someday.

Soy Nancy Arrubla Henao Espero me colabores. tengo 70 anos no hablo Inglés

I haven't been able to find, nobody has shared how much yardage is needed! Or how big the circles are. And the miniature yardage as well, even if it is just 2 or 3 circles in a row.

I do mine no pinning. If I can get my son to help me with a video I can show you. But instead of pinning, I always work from the center to the edge on every single curve.

I absolutely love this video. I already have the acrylic templates and I am anxious to make this quilt. It will be part of an armoire for my daughter filled with quilts and afghans which will be Ca. king-sized for both. She will think she is just getting the cabinet. So glad that you and your daughter and grand-daughter quilt. You are a wealth of information and anyone would love learning from you which I why I have this video several places on my Pinterest pages. I am spreading the word. Please check out my Etsy store. I am known as QuiltsByCrystalsMom. She loved that I named my shop after her. It is a new venture and I only learned from the best. Why waste our God-given time and materials if you are not going to be meticulous? Thank you for teaching us all the correct way to do things.

You skipped over stitching one row of double wedding rings to another. I've done my quilt except for this part and since the instructions in your book are not clear, I'm clueless on how to accomplish this. I turned to the Internet hoping you'd have a video, which you do, and if I could see how you attached these part, which you don't. You just skip over it. I'm still at a loss. You should have demonstrated this step, because it is different from your other steps. You just jump to the quilting template part. So disappointed.

There are a couple of her other videos up that cover more of this quilt - the 2nd part of this video does have the technique to attach the rows. ua-cam.com/video/UJXqIILJ550/v-deo.html
