    Border runs sounds like fun to me. Take a few days to go to Costa Rica, drink some Pina colada, go to the beach. Sounds like fun 😂😂😂

      Right? My kids love doing it. For them it's Indian and Lebanese food and fancy cafes and stuff like that. They think San Jose is great. For all of us the food variety is a big deal.

    Sorry, we're confused. Online we see that a tourist visa for US citizens is 90 days. How do you only do a border run twice a year?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому +1

      Basically everything online is wrong (he says.... online.) But it's 180 days and always has been, it's just not 180 days on arrival, it's 90 with 90 days extended once you are here.

    So are you CHOOSING residency, or being forced into residency?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому +3

      Im' here full time. So being forced. For me the border runs are so easy that the effort of residency isn't worth it. But residency comes with the border driving benefit. So I'm looking forward to it. But the paperwork to get teh residency is far more work than border runs, so if I didn't have to, I wouldn't bother.

    So how does one add more time to a 90 day tourist visa? Does it require a trip to Managua to renew?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому +2

      It does not. I do it in Leon, just minutes away. Your local capital should have a migracion office that can handle basic renewals. They can't handle the cedula for residencia, but they are trying to get that pushed out to them in the future. But renewals are quick and easy and local (normally.) I've never had to go to Managua for anything involving my visas here. Only for residency stuff.

    I wonder if i could find a dog-crazy american in San Juan del Sur to pet sit my pups while i do a border run 🤔. That seems like a convenient place to stop on the way to Costa Rica.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому +1

      just use the vet clinic there. most clinics do sitting.

      @@ScottAlanMillerVlog that's boarding, and absolutely not acceptable for my dogs. They need to be in either their own home with a trusted friend playing with them and sleeping in the same place in the bed where I sleep, or in the home of an equally crazy dog person as I am... that's hard to find!

    If I cross into Costa Rica from Nicaragua every 85 days and do nothing else... can I stay in Nicaragua without any other steps? No going into Managua for Immigration paper work? No other issues?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  6 місяців тому +1

      Yes, that's all that there is to do. But if you never meet with migracion, you'll never be working with someone to determine when your tourist stay needs to change to a residence process until border control doesn't let you back in for a while. I should mention that on an episode, the process of doing extensions is a REALLY important piece of the mechanism, for someone staying a long time, to have proper communications with the government to make sure everyone is on the same page. But at any given moment, you just do a border run under 90 days. But you don't have to go back to Managua ever. The extension process is done in your local capital, not the national capital (unless you WANT to go to Managua, then that's an option.) I've never, ever gone to Managua for immigration paperwork.

    what is on the horizon for changes to Nicaraguan tourist visa? maybe 180 days? or? temp residency....any increase in income requirement? anyone heard anything?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  4 місяці тому

      There is nothing to hear. It's already the ultimate visa. It's already 180 days. There is zero income requirement at all, that's not something that they check. Yes, we hear the details every day as we are all on it and talk to the government constantly because we live here. There are no rumors, no changes, and all the info is super easy to get....
      It's 90 days up front and extends to 180. Border runs are allowed and unchanged. For most English speaking countries and most of LATAM and Europe you just "show up" and it is all automatic.
      Check out my video series, it's up to date and covers everything you need to know. No need to look for recent news (there is none) and absolutely every details is covered here regularly.

    Hey Scott,
    Do you suggest specific times of the year to avoid border runs? We exited Nicaragua via Peñas Blancas on January 13, and leaving Nicaragua took only around 10 minutes. However, entering Costa Rica involved waiting in line for over 3 hours.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog

      There are certain holidays and such that are a bad idea. BUt your control your border run dates very little. But time of day is huge, early morning is best.

    Hi Scott, what do you use for your onward travel proof for CR?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому

      they don't ask me when walking over normally. when i use the bus the bus itself provides it with a round trip ticket. just in case be ready with one of the airline ticket services that gives you a ticket and then cancels it immediately.

  • @enough1494

    However flights require a return in 99 days, due to Nicaragua’s norms. Spirit, would not let me book one way in?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  2 місяці тому

      The flights themselves don't require that. We fly in all the time without, including Spirit. It's a false requirement. There is 100% zero return requirements from Nicaragua, never has been. Only Costa Rica in the region has that. But the airlines almost all require it, and what can you do about it? I just flew in on Spirit without it, but everyone is reporting in the last few weeks they've joined the others is falsely requiring it. Just buy a dummy ticket.
      This is one of those situations where airlines operate above the law. Legally you could sue them for not letting you on your flight by falsifying a requirement. But where do you sue? In the US? The US will say that no one can prove the Nicaraguan law. In Nicaragua? They'll say the transaction was in the US and outside of their jurisdiction.
      Airlines operate like sovereign entities.

    I am just afraid that if you it out in the open like that it will get under pressure. In nicaragua a lot of things happen and everything is ok until it is out in the open.

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  7 місяців тому +1

      but it's their official process. it's as open as open can be without me here.

    How much does it cost to do the border run coming back into Costa Rica ?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  5 місяців тому

      Costa Rica is free to enter, $8 to leave (but most services charge $10.) Use the machines inside border control for the best price.

    Hi, any idea if non us citizen with usa visa can enter nicaragua without nicaragua visa ?

    • @ScottAlanMillerVlog
      @ScottAlanMillerVlog  Місяць тому

      The USA visa is meaningless in this case. Everything depends on the nationality of your passport. Which isn't mentioned. So i have no means of speculating.
