Purandara lived in 15th century in Karnataka and started as a very rich greedy diamond merchant. A divine incident changed his life and he left all riches to become a devotee of Lord Krishna. He’s believed to have composed over 475,000 songs mostly in Kannada and some in Sanskrit.
He is widely considered as the pitamaha or grand father of carnatic music. Famous Hindustani classical singer Thansen’s guru Haridas was a student of Purandara!
