Favorite character? Chirrut Îmwe, the blind Guardian of the Whills. FYI, the attacking rebel starfighters scene in this film incorporated unused footage from Episode IV so, yes, those are the original actors. Also, you see Red Five destroyed here which opens up the callsign to be used by Luke in Episode IV.
I suspected you might enjoy this one. I was quite impressed with your saying Stardust before Jyn did. And you definitely provided your share of Star Wars quotes. Michael Giaccino‘s music is certainly different, but he consulted John Williams‘ orchestrator to get the mood right. The Solo music by John Powell will be even more different, despite the fact that John Williams provided the theme for Han Solo in that case. The stormtroopers aren‘t clones at this point in time. I haven‘t watched it, but I heard that a recent episode of The Bad Batch confirmed that the accelerated aging applied to get the clones combat-ready in 10 years continues, thus the clones are quite old by now. Also, the implanted Order 66 is no longer needed. Thus, the stormtroopers are just normal recruits. The idea of clone stormtroopers first came up in the Thrawn trilogy of books by Timothy Zahn in the early 90s, so before the prequels. (These books kicked off the Expanded Universe, which is now considered legacy by Disney.) But even there, Luke was surprised to be confronted by clones, which means that stormtroopers normally aren‘t.
This is my second favorite Star wars Film (my first is The Empire Strikes Back). Carrie Fisher was still alive when this was filmed but they did CGI her because Carrie was over 30 years older. Krenic's superior Wilhuff Tarkin was also in episode 4, he's the one that blew up Leia's home world of Alderan. The actor that played him (Peter Cushing) died in 1994, so he was also CGI. The female Rebel leader (wearing the white dress) is named Mon Mothma, her character is also in Return of the Jedi, she is the one that introduced Admiral Ackbar in the scene where they plan how to destroy the death star (2.0). In Return of the Jedi the character was played by an actress named Caroline Blakiston, in Rogue One the actress is Genevieve O'Reilly. It's astonishing how much these two actresses look, act and speak alike while playing this character. Watch both these actresses play this character (one right after the other) sometime, Genevieve did an amazing job.
@@TrentRidley the thing is, after Andor (this is not a big spoiler), I think it was not the beginning of romance at all. It was more like over this movie Andor saw Jyn as somebody who could replace his sister in his life.
I still remember the emotions I felt watching this for the first time in the theater, particularly for the last ten minutes. I was happy, sad, scared, and excited all at once. Then when Vader's lightsaber ignited, I got chills, and everyone in the theater cheered. It was such a magical moment, and I felt like a child again from all the excitement. This movie is just fantastic, and it is everything we wanted from the sequel trilogy but unfortunately didn't get. Hands down the best film of the Disney era. I so can't wait to see your reaction! I am always torn between this, episode 3, and episode 5 as my favorite Star Wars film.
I completely understand your excitement and crazy range of emotions! The more I watched, the more I got excited to see more. I'm a bit sad that it doesn't seem more Star Wars were made to be this amazing afterwards. You can just have a 3-way tie for favorite movie Star Wars movie :D
@It Approaches Andor TV show is the best Disney Star Wars yet. You're missing out. It gives by far the most realistic feeling of terror that the Empire brings to the galaxy. Clearly, the trilogies have a different tone than Andor, so it is a little like comparing apples to oranges. Still the acting and writing is incredible, for any show. Not just Star Wars.
Vader at the end of this gives me chills... THAT was the boogeyman of my 10 year old self, seeing the original Star Wars for the first time in 1977. He was dark and terrifying and when that red lightsaber ignites in the dark, smoky hallway... wow. And he Just. Keeps. Coming. So well done.
Bear in mind, the first time that a lot of moviegoers saw Darth Vader was him emerging into a corridor. Only it was brightly lit and the Stormtroopers had already secured the position. This scene is the same and yet entirely different.
18:26 "It's beautiful" is a haunting line. My mother used to work for Veterans Affairs hospitals, and she interviewed a lot of people who had personally witnessed nuclear bomb tests in the 1950s and were potentially exposed to radiation. They all said the same thing...
Hard to believe that Vader was so aggressive and forceful when he stormed the Rebel ship, then a couple days later, a complete incompetent when fighting Obi-Wan aboard the Death Star.
@@jeffburnham6611 not really, because they were not Obi-Wan. He had no concern about them. He had no connection to them. No love/hate relationship with them. No concern that they can fight back.
THANK YOU for being the first reactor to recognize that that was the same Red and Gold Leader from the original Star Wars. They took unused footage from the original, cleaned it up and put them in the movie JUST to maintain Continuity! There were several other callbacks but you get the Gold(and I guess Red) Star!
Bodi was one of the best characters in such short time we learned. He had a hard life joined the empire to escape. Was the only person Jins Dad trusted, then was tortured by Saw for no reason. Still did everything in his power to help the side that really treated him like dirt.
"This is rouge 2 I found them repeat Ifound them" - from Empire strikes back at Hoth planet when Han and Luke are lost on the snow, call by Rouge 2 snowspeeder
This is my kind of Star Wars. Dark, gritty, ruthless. I want to see more of that part of the universe! Also up to this point Star Wars had never looked better. We are in the time of the original trilogy but with modern effects and sounds. And then there is that Vader scene. Blew our minds back in the day. 😊
0:15, Rogue 2 was Zev Senesca's callsign during the battle of Hoth in Ep.V. You remember hearing it when he's searching for Luke and Han after they spend the night in the TaunTaun. Rogue squadron was a squadron formed after the desolation of Red and Yellow squadron at the battle of Yavin IV.
"She stood in front of him." It is beautiful that you have noticed this moment, which tells us about the developing trust and relationship between them.
Saw Gerrera is a tragic character you will see in other media and how/why he got to this point. He is the rebel equivalent to Darth Vader, slowly losing his humanity turning into a killing machine of terror. Just for the other side. Deep inside he is a good man, surrounded by pain. This is the moment he decided not to go on any more, to end his journey before it is too late for his soul.
What I love about this movie is how they show the 'smallness' of the rebellion. I feel like in the original trilogy the rebellion feels massive and up to par with the empire. In this movie we feel the desparation of the rebellion and feel minuscule against a giant adversary. I particularly liked the vader scene at the end, that part took years of my life! Even though we know the outcome I still was on the edge of my seat cheering on the rebels to go faster! Amazing movie. Loved your reaction!
It's fascinating to see how the Rebellion felt like it was breaking apart and had Rogues One not done what they did, they probably would have lost in the end
Tony Gilroy, the writer of this and the show Andor describes himself as a Star Wars agnostic. Meaning he doesn’t love hate or feel anything for the series. I feel like it leads to an interesting take on the series and the time he puts in to get everything right makes it all so good. If you loved this you’ll really love Andor because it’s even better.
@@VerowakReacts i think the best way to describe his viewpoint is that he is a writer first, and everything else comes second. You have shows like mandalorian and clone wars that were made by people who live and breathe star wars and we get awesome stuff because of it but Tony Gilroy has the mindset of "how can I make this show/movie the best with my vision and then incorporate it with star wars while those like Dave filoni are "ooh what if we told this story from the expanded universe or did this event " or something like that. This is how we get some diverse interpretations of the star wars universe which imo is good.
I'll never forget seeing this in the cinema. The saddest part was the night we saw the movie was the same night Carrie Fisher died. My favourite modern star wars movie by far!
I love how you're always thinking ahead and trying to piece together things that relate to the other movies. You are obviously intelligent and a passionate Star Wars fan. Thank you, lovely lady, for sharing your experience with us. 🤗
So many Easter eggs in this! One of my favorites is an X-Wing you see blow up is "Red 5", leaving an open spot for Luke to take over as Red 5 in a New Hope!
I’ve been binging a lot of Star Wars reaction videos lately, and yours in this video has been my favorite BY FAR! All of your reactions are so real, and you can tell that you are genuinely interested in what you are watching. It’s so refreshing to see the connections you make to the rest of the movies!
K-2SO was also my favorite character in this movie. I was really sad that the heroes all died in the end, but then again they were never mention in OT. One of the few Disney Star Wars films I like.
I would have loved for everyone to survive, but I think everyone dying just hits home very differently. It makes the events feel way more real and that so much had to be sacrificed to destroy the Death Star
That they're not mentioned in the original movies is a weak excuse. I'm not against the idea that they all gave their lives, but not because of that. I'd like to think that Baze could have escaped. Maybe it's just one of those things but Raz Ahmed's expression of realization at the end gets me a bit.
the reason they didn't do an opening crawl was because it is not an official episode number. it is a spin off. although i like to call this Star Wars Episode 3.9 Andor takes place sometime before this
I know your going to love this movie. I took my daughter out of school for the very first showing (yea i know ppl told me im taking away from her schooling), but its a cheap low ball public high school she purely hated. It was so much fun as we ate Red Robin burgers, played video games and air hockey before the show. Popcorn, Nachos, chocolate, sour patch kids, junior mints for the movie. Total fun before she graduated high school, and she was to leave for college.
I think it's fine taking your kid out of school for fun things like that (as long as she wasn't missing something important like a test or whatnot). Life experience and fun is so important for everyone! It sounds like you and your daughter had an amazing time, and it was definitely worth skipping school for !😂
That day will stick with her for the rest of her life. If she has her own kids, it will inspire her to do the same thing for them on occasion. That's a more valuable lesson than anything she would have learned in school that day.
My dad did the same and took me to see revenge of the sith when I was younger and it’s a core memory to this day, you’re an amazing parent for giving your kid that experience! Revenge is still my favorite Star Wars movie to this day!
@@eclipped I did this to a few harry potter movies as well. We tried seeing the premiere in LA for Order of the Phx, but it was sold out for a week, but she did get to meet Emma Watson and Rupert Grint over a split second at Mann Chinese Theatres (we waited 4 hours). We ended up seeing that movie on the way home at a random city, but it was still great.
@@THEvagabond29 that is so rad dude! Even better since you got to meet some of the cast👌🏻we can only hope she will pass down the tradition for years to come!
Rogue squadron was named in honor of these warriors. Rogue squadron is a group of the best fighters/pilots in the Rebel Alliance. It is quite a honor to be considered for Rogue squadron.
You probably figured it out, but I thought I should mention that a few snippets with Gold Leader and Red Leader were taken from unused footage from the first movie.
I saw Rogue One at 7pm on release night, and I was absolutely blown away, no pun intended. I’m so glad you had the opportunity to see this, your reactions were just like mine it was wild lol.
K2-S0!!!!!! My boyfriend gave me a Valentine's day card after this movie came out and it was K2 on it and it says "Roses are red, and I like you. But only because Cassian said I had to" Loved it LOL
@@VerowakReacts Yeah, he knows I'm obsessed with droids (my top three favorite SW characters are K2-S0, Chopper and BB-8, THEN we have baby yoda and THEN we have *redacted for spoilers*)
@@toukie I mean droids are simply amazing so makes perfect sense :D It's really awesome how they made droids such great characters, I definitely was not expecting that at all
My second fav star wars movie. Loved it. Except for the one star destroyer crashing into the other. That was a bit much to find believable with that tiny ship pushing it. The end scene with vader was just epoch
Love this film. It's the only Disney SW movie I like, and I ignore the sequel trilogy. Love all the little Easter Eggs in this film - Leia's father Bail Organa still played by Jimmy Smits, R2 & 3PO, talk of Bail Organa's friend (the Jedi... Obi-Wan!) and how Bail wants Leia to find him, bringing back Tarkin, the rebel base on Yavin 4, Mon Mothma (leader of the rebellion played by her actress from a couple scenes from Episode III, not the actress from Episode VI)... the list goes on and on. And of course, two minutes of primal rage Vader fan service! Love it!
@@VerowakReacts This is the Vader we always wanted to see. I HIGHLY recommend checking out here on UA-cam - Star Wars SC 38 Reimagined - it's by FXitinPost - about six minutes long, done by fans, a reimagining of the Obi-Wan/Vader fight from Episode IV that ties in more with Anakin's fighting style as well as the Vader we see in Rogue One - it's amazing! And I'd love a reaction to it by you on UA-cam! You won't regret it, trust me!
Andor show is the prequel to this movie, season 1 spans 1 year and it’s 5 years before Rogue One. Season 2 spans 4 years and it lead up to Rogue One. They are currently filming season 2, it will come out next year.
5:37 - Saw Guerrera made his first appearance in the Clone Wars animated series. The animated series' are "canon", and there are some recurring characters that have made their way into live action shows/movies. This is why I recommend watching those shows (Clone Wars, Bad Batch, Rebels, Tales of the Jedi) because of the links between the overall universe. 5:58 - Great catch on that! Most people don't spot that right away. I didn't, so for you noticing that. 7:37 - Yes, they do. Season 1 is out, and season 2 is currently filming. It's due out next year. Season 1 takes place 5 years before this movie, and covers a lot of his backstory. 10:00 - I think you meant Tarkin, not Krennic. Tarkin was the chief administrator on the Death Star in A New Hope. 10:12 - That's because John Williams didn't do the score for it. However, the composer was heavily influenced by Williams' score for the first 6 movies. 11:20 - Actually, yes. Kyber crystals have a form of sentience that is connected to The Force. That's about all I can tell you without spoilers, but you can get more information on them in the animated series'. 12:05 - Remember that kid.... 13:28 - It's funny that you said, "Ow" there, because Alan Tudik actually DID (accidentally) connect with that slap. Diego Luna covered his mouth because he was laughing. Ironically, that was the best take, so it was left in the movie. Tudik apologized all over himself after "CUT!" was called, as it was a legitimate accident and he felt bad about it. But if you look closely, you can see Diego Luna laughing behind his hand. 16:13 - Correct. This detail was actually relayed to the fandom back in 1977 or 78 in one of the printed materials at the time. The Death Star can fire up to 10 shots like this per day, or one "Alderaan level" blast per day, as it takes time to recharge. 16:36 - Not entirely, and that's because he was telling the truth. It's those who lie who get their minds permanently damaged. 17:25 - Remember that kid? She was likely still in the city when that happened. 18:19 - Saw remained behind to save the others. He knew that if they waited for him, they would all die. You saw (pun intended) that he has artificial legs and feet, and couldn't walk very fast. I would say more, but "no spoilers". 23:50 - Funny you should say that. You're PARTIALLY right. In Empire Strikes Back, Luke's squadron was "Rogue Squadron", and there was no "Rogue One", Luke was Rogue Leader, and the first numerical reference was Rogue Two. Rogue Squadron was named that to honour the team that sacrificed themselves to get the Death Star plans. Technically, this movie explains those tiny details from 35 years prior. 24:20 - I would LOVE to see a movie, or tv show about Chirrut and Baze prior to this movie. 25:50 - Right. Vader uses the same kind of Bacta tank that Luke was placed in to heal in Empire Strikes Back. It won't re-grow his limbs, but it does help heal his skin. 26:40 - Vader got "Dad Jokes", which is funny, because at this point of the timeline, he doesn't know he's a dad. 30:30 - I just want to pause right here, and mention that this movie was absolutely AMAZING to see on the big screen. Especially this 3rd act! I was 10 years old when the original Star Wars came out (before being sub-titled "A New Hope"), and when the Rebel fleet pulled into orbit.... I literally had chills go up my spine, goosebumps everywhere, and I felt like I was 10 years old again. After we left the theater, we raced home and I put on A New Hope, and haven't watched one without the other ever since. I own a copy of Rogue One on both Blu-Ray and Digital, plus subscribe to Disney+... but if they ever put that movie back in theaters, I would pay to go see it like that again. 32:05 - Yes. Gold Leader and Red Leader were shown to tie into A New Hope, but instead of "Digital recreations" like they did with Tarkin, they put "unused footage from the original Star Wars" in there instead. 42:16 - Fun fact: The little "Data Card" shown here, had to be recreated by visual references only, as the original prop used back in 1976 was either lost or stolen. 42:25 - Another "Fun Fact": This Darth Vader hallway scene was NOT in the original script. As the movie was in the final stages of editing, Jon Favreau thought that "something is missing", and went to Kathleen Kennedy to propose filming this scene at the last minute (literally weeks away from the movie's release date). She agreed with him, and approved the "reshoot", which was hastily organized and filmed. I can tell you that when this scene appeared in theaters, the entire crowd lost out collective minds. Also, this was partially done to show Vader at the peak of his power. He was fully immersed in the Dark Side, and a living nightmare to anyone who saw him. 43:14 - Like Tarkin, Leia had a "body double" on set and in costume, but the face was digitally altered to look like Carrie Fisher in 1976 (during principal photography). Also, the one word she said, "Hope"was actually spoken by Fisher. The word was taken from A New Hope during one of her scenes, slightly edited, and used here. 44:35 - Oh, I forgot to mention that Peter Cushing's family was asked if Lucasfilm could use his likeness for this movie. They approved, and were consulted throughout filming. That's a level of respect not often shown to the family of actors who have died long before a movie was filmed. IIRC, Carrie Fisher was still alive when the final edit of this film was done, and I believe she actually saw it prior to its release to theaters. She would pass away prior to the films release. I definitely rank this movie VERY high on my list of favorite Star Wars movies. For me, it's a 3 way tie for first place: Empire Strikes Back, Revenge of the Sith, and Rogue One. I'm glad they decided to kill off all of the main characters, as none of them were shown later on in the timeline, which would have been a continuity issue. 45:30 - When Cassian killed Tivyk on the Ring of Kaffrein, he actually did the "right" thing. Tivyk would have been captured and tortured for information by the Empire. He would have revealed that a pilot had defected, where and who he went to, as well as knowledge of the Death Star's existence. We also have no idea what other information they might have gotten out of him. 45:53 - If you remember, Chirrut was "praying" while approaching the console. "I am one with The Force and The Force is with me".... he could use The Force, but likely wasn't trained well enough to become a Jedi Knight. Remember, "Order 66" happened about 20 years prior to this movie. Also, not every Force sensitive person became a Jedi Knight. Those who weren't "strong enough" with The Force served the order in a different capacity (in his case, guarding the temple on Jedha where many Padawans would find their Kyber crystals for their lightsabers. Also, while not explicitly stated in the movies, lightsabers were outlawed by the Empire (I believe this was revealed in one of the "canon" novels). Only Vader and Palpatine were allowed to use the weapon. 46:39 - Solo is a different kind of movie from Rogue One, but it's a very enjoyable movie (my opinion). Without giving away spoilers for the Sequel Trilogy, I can really only say that you shouldn't go into them with really high expectations. When you get to them, I'll explain why I say that, but I won't say to "disregard them", or "don't watch them", or anything like that. Watch them, and make up your own mind. Visually speaking, they look amazing. Other than that, I won't say anything yet, because I don't want to be a Negative Nancy. I don't think they were horrible, but they have their share of problems. Also, many fans will jump into the comments section with complaints and anger. Some are justified, while others aren't. I just want you to be prepared for that. Also, I would recommend watching The Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett before going into the Sequel Trilogy. Also, I have to note that the "timeline order" of those two shows is: The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2, The Book of Boba Fett, then The Mandalorian season 3. There is also the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the Andor series. All of them are absolutely amazing! I highly recommend watching those, as well.
This is my favorite. I loved when you started realizing they would not survive their effort. Also agree 10/10. Your reactions are really growing on me!
Im a person in his mid-30s who has been watching Star Wars ever since he was little, and Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie. It just beets the crap out of my nostalgia for the Original Trilogy and Visual Fidelity of the Prequel Trilogy.
At 2:02, "I was relying on it to tell us when we were." That makes sense, yet sounds more like something one would say about Back to the Future, already referenced.
Yes it's the original actors for Red Leader and Gold Leader, because this was footage found from the original Star Wars filming which was unused. The actor for Gold Leader recorded new audio for this film. The actor who played Red Leader unfortunately passed away some time ago.
My random thoughts... This is my favorite "Disney" SW creation. C3P0 has always been my fav droid, but K2 is so good.. I've been a fan of Donnie Yen, who plays the force guru Chirrut , since first seeing Iron Monkey back around '94. He's my favorite character in this. The theme music for this one is also very good.
Rogue One is absolutely fantastic! It's my second favorite Star Ward movie, and I would love more movies to be like this. K2 is such a gem! The music is also really great yeah
There's a few Easter eggs in this movie related to Star Wars rebels animated series... And soon to be another show that's coming since the character they announce over the loudspeaker in this movie will be showing up in live-action form... Can't wait to see her Ewan McGregor's wife's gonna be playing her.. She could show up in the Mandalorian season three also .. also The droid chopper is in this from the same animated series .. also Forest Whitaker is also in Star Wars rebels animated series if you ever get a chance to watch it make sure you watch the clone wars animated series first ... Andor and Star wars rebels Animated series run side-by-side they literally start the same year which is 5 BBY .... BBY Stands for before the battle of yevin Which is the battle with the death star in the first movie When Luke skywalker blows it up..
Best Disney-Area Star Wars Movie by FAR! K-2SO is my favorite droid. "Solo" is ok, but even that is much better, than the sequels... The series "Andor" is perfect!
@@VerowakReacts Well - only if you not count HK-47 from the game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic". He has the absolute best lines ever! But the game is not canon. 😜
"Rogue Two" and the other pilots you reference from "The Empire Strikes Back" are members of the newly-formed Rogue Squadron. Composed of survivors of Red and Gold Squadrons who attacked the original Death Star, over time it became the Rebellion's elite fighter unit with their best pilots being assigned to it. At the time of the original films there wasn't really much reason for the name beyond it sounding cool, but that was retconned with the release of this movie, with the squadron now being named in honour of these fallen heroes.
I understand Saw... very well. At a certain point... at a certain level, pain just wears on you. It breaks you down slowly, destroying everything about you until there is nothing left. I understand why he stayed.
Yup I the guy started resisting since the clone wars and lost his sister , friends , sanity and limbs along the way … in a way he is the resistance ´s Vader .
Saw had been fighting against the occupation of his home world since he was a very young man. First against the Separatist Droid armies then against Imperial forces. Despite all that he sacrificed and how vitally important his home world was for the Khyber crystals the Rebellion turned their back to him because he refused to stop targeting Imperial civilian targets. This despite the Rebellion clearly being willing to conduct assassinations and black ops missions (off the books). Saw at least was open about what he was doing. Yeah I'd be tired and fed up too if I were him.
FUN FACT: If you line up the stories, it means at the same week Vader is butchering his way through Rebel forces, Han is giving Luke a speech about how Jedi are obsolete due to everyone having blasters.
Oh Han, if only he had seen the prequels to know that blasters are uncivilized. I never thought of lining up the stories, but that's such a neat little fact, thank you!
There was a Prequel to this film in bookform that I read about 2 months before the Film Released. I felt it really helped me to connect to Galen and Vera before the story of Rouge One starts. Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel it came out in 2016, also helps fill in a bit about how the Death Star works with the Kyber Crystals and the Politics going on within the Empire at the time.
Right after you see the Tantive IV jump into lightspeed, it's next stop is right where A New Hope begins, with the ship arriving on Tatooine to get Obi-Wan. Unfortunately the Star Destroyer that Vader is on catches up with them beforehand and disables Leia's ship. So there is a bit of a time gap between the end of this movie and the beginning of A New Hope. There were lots of cameos by character's you'd recognize from other Star Wars films (R2D2, C3PO, Bail Organa, Gran Moff Tarkin, Mon Mothma and of course Darth Vader) and even a couple from the Rebels animated series (Chopper, the Ghost, and a call for Hera Syndulla over a loudspeaker). The reason this film didn't have the familiar scrolling text and opening theme music is because its a stand alone movie and not part of the Skywalker saga. Many fans would agree with you, this WAS a very good movie, probably the best since Disney purchased the Star Wars franchise from George Lucas.
It’s good you noticed how weird it is that they went into hyperspace from a planet. It is weird. Ships aren’t supposed to work like that, but the Disney movies tend to play fast and loose with what is or isn’t possible with hyperspace. A lot.
"They said the line!" Followed by the smile is the sign that she's 100% a big fan now lmao. Literally everyone has that same reaction 😂 I love this gleeful reaction
After the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the Death Star, the only surviving members of Red Squadron were Wedge Antilles and Luke Skywalker. The decided to change the name of their squadron from Red Squadron to Rogue Squadron in honor of the Rogue One team that sacrificed their lives to get the Death Star plans. In Rogue Squadron, in honor of the original team, no one held the call sign of Rogue One. There was Rogue Leader, then Rogue Two, Rogue Three, etcetera...
The Gold and Red Leaders were in ep4 on the attack of the Death Star. And some of the other cockpit scenes were unused footage from the making of ep4 back in the late 70's. Then in ep5 while on Hoth Luke uses the call sign Rogue Leader as he is leading the Rogue Squadron as the squadron call sign "Rogue One" is retired in honor of everyone's sacrifice at the end of this movie.
I still cannot get over the fact, that one small corvette took out two star destroyers easily... raising the question, why the rebels did not do that all - the - time?!
Because the empire has more Star Destroyers than the rebellion has corvettes. And it requires surprise maneuvering to catch them off guard. Once the Empire gets wind of the tactic, they'll avoid getting close, which is fine because Star Destroyers are equipped with powerful turbo lasers which can, and have, take out rebellion ships from a long distance.
This was the first time the rebel fleet engaged the Imperial fleet. Plus the forces deployed at Scariff was riddled with with incompetent nobles, who joined the Imperial military for clout, and got posted to this relatively secret beach planet.
At first I was hesitant to accept all of the new films and story lines but this film does show you the sacrifices that the rebellion made to try and defeat the empire - awesome film and great review as usual : ) You will love SOLO
So far, this is the only Star Wars movie put out from Disney that I like. I keep hope alive they'll eventually find their way and put out some more worthwhile SW movies.
I think this might just be my favorite reaction. This is the closest I've ever seen to Verowak being turned into a giggling, squeeing mess. I love it. 😁
In Empire Strikes Back, Luke is the commander of a group of snowspeeders and they call themselves Rogue Squadron. Rogue Two that you remember was one of the pilots. He was killed in the Battle of Hoth.
One of the best Star Wars films ever released. Great story, really well done, and a very fine fit into the overall arc of the story. The Vader scene at the end was AMAZING!!
I'm so glad you liked it! Also glad you didn't complain about CGI Leia or Tarkin! A lot of people didn't like it, but personally I loved it, even if the CGI wasn't the best. The movie really put the "war" in Star Wars. It was based off several of my favorite WW2 films, such as "The Guns of Navarone". It isn't afraid to show the Rebellion being darker. Just like irl, again in WW2, Resistance groups had to make some tough calls and take actions that would be morally objectionable if, you know, you weren't occupied by Nazis. And I don't trust anyone who doesn't love K2. XD Can't wait for Andor! ❤
I'm not very fussy when it comes to CGI, I never understand how people complain a LOT about CGI like it ruins a movie :/ That's perfectly put "I don't trust anyone who doesn't love K2" !!! Exactly it :D
Be sure to watch the ANDOR tv series. It's been my favorite of all STAR WARS thus far... very cerebral, very adult. And watch them in chunks of three; they're roughly structured that way (in regards to buildup and climaxes).
I normally recommend watching things in release order (even if it's set before the other things in the franchise it's often informed by - either directly or tonally - what came out before it), but if you want to jump into Andor, it's one of the rare times I'd say it's alright. There are no real spoilers or direct connections to any other movies or shows (at least for the first season), and it's mostly built around this movie. It's really, really, really good. Probably my favourite Star Wars thing since the original trilogy.
Absolutely love this movie. I never know if I take K-2SO or Chirrut Imwe dying harder. My 2 favorite characters in this one. Also, my favorite part of the Vader scene, is when I realized that the door got stuck not because of mechanical failure, but because Vader stopped it from opening.
This is the first video of yours that I came across, but I couldn't watch it until I had seen your original trilogy reactions, so even though I have been following you for months, I have only gotten around to this one now... What the hell was that? No, I'm kidding. This was just as entertaining as your other videos. I saw this one in theaters twice, and would have gone a third time if I hadn't gotten a sinus infection the morning before I was supposed to go with my sister and her sons. I had to give her my credit card to collect the tickets and buy snacks since I had promised to treat them, as I laid in bed all night suffering... They all loved the movie too, though, so it was all worth it.
When I watched this movie for the first time and Vader showed up there at the end and everything. I immediately wanted to put in episode 4 and continue right where this movie left off. The problem with doing that is that I would probably stay up way too late watching episodes 4, 5, and 6. Lol
Loved the reaction and I agree with Rogue One being second favorite after Ep. 3. This movie does an amazing job bringing eras together and it does it stunningly. On a weird side note; I’ve been noticing with SW reactions, a lot of commenters like to plant biases against “Disney” SW with backhanded comments, and while I don’t think they’ve swayed you, they have influenced many people. Regardless I can’t wait where your SW Journey takes you! May the Force be with you.
If commenters swayed me, I would have not watched the prequels even 😂 Comments may make me want to see a movie more, but comments will never make me want to skip a movie or not see a movie. I would much rather see for myself :D I'm actually very curious about the sequels
This is by far the best of the " NEW " StarWars films/tv. The story was amazing, the music, visuals and the emotions,, jeeeez,,, i have never cried at a S W film, but this one ,, WOW... and the Vader scene at the end,,, OMG,, Spine chingling ,, the leia , it had it all.. I cant remember how many times i saw this in 2016 and 2017,,,, ALOT. Gareth edwards,, i salute you. The guard who releases Leia's ship near the end, is the director Gareth edwards,,, what a guy.
This movie was so incredibly well done! I would love to have more Star Ward movies done like Rogue One. And seeing Vader in that hallway was perfect!!!
John Williams wrote the music for the episodic Star Wars films, and would continue to do so for the sequel trilogy. In fact, he gets a cameo appearance in Episode IX. Different composers were chosen for the 'A Star Wars Story' films specifically because they were supposed to be one-off movies not considered part of the greater Skywalker Saga. I loved Michael Giacchino's contributions to both the Star Wars films and the Star Trek films with the JJ Abrams 'Kelvin-verse' movies. Alan Tudyc not only voiced K2-SO, but performed the motion capture of the character, walking around on stilts with a K2 head sitting like a hat atop his own head to provide the proper sight-lines for the other actors. Alan Tudyc is a brilliant yet underappreciated actor!
Alan Tudyk is just a fantastic actor. I'm tempted to have an "Alan Tudyk" month where every movie I react to has to have Alan Tudyk in it :D Michael Giacchino and John Williams are just amazing composers, and I love what they've both done for Star Wars (from what I've seen so far)
@@VerowakReacts If one of those films is Serenity, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE watch and react to the Firefly series (all of 14 episodes) on your channel if you have not seen them already!
In the old Star Wars novels, you couldn't go to light speed in a planet's gravity well. The Empire had some special Star Destroyers that could produce gravity wells to pull ships out of hyperspace
What will you watch next from the Star Wars Universe, I love your reaction. My favourite character is Ahsoka Tano and I think she will be yours to. But you’ll have to go watch, clones Wars and rebels. She went from one of the most hated characters to the most beloved by the Fans, Ahsoka is one of the rare characters who we get the chance to know her from, kid to full adult. Now that she appeared in real life on the Mandalorian and getting her own show at the end of summer, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know her better. She’s the best and it’s looking like she will become the future of Star Wars…
I'm watching Clone Wars on Patreon at the moment, but my plan is still to finish all the Star Wars movies; SOLO, then the sequels. I also want to watch the live action series that have been made on Disney in the past several years
The rebel base is Yavin, so its the same squadrons that would attack the original death star (just a few days after the events of Rogue One) with Luke assigned to Red squadron.
That makes perfect sense. I feel like I missed a lot of things from the original trilogy since it was my intro to the universe, so I definitely need to rewatch them
You can see why Vader was so damn pissed off at the start of episode 4. Leia: "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan." Vader: "Young Lady, I literally just watched you fly away from a terrorist attack on an imperial base. I killed 10 of your guard about 20 minutes ago! So don't you try and pull that 'I'm a member of the Imperial Senate' shit with me."
solo was good, but the Andor series was exceptional! Impressive how you have enough insight to predict the flow of the movies, and, appreciate their place in the series. Love how immersed your get. Great review!
I never thought I could care for a droid so much. K-2SO is such a great character! Who is your favorite character in this movie?

Favorite character? Chirrut Îmwe, the blind Guardian of the Whills.
FYI, the attacking rebel starfighters scene in this film incorporated unused footage from Episode IV so, yes, those are the original actors. Also, you see Red Five destroyed here which opens up the callsign to be used by Luke in Episode IV.
@@pauld6967 Yes, Chirrut Îmwe, I think is my favorite in this, as well
I suspected you might enjoy this one.
(These books kicked off the Expanded Universe, which is now considered legacy by Disney.)
But even there, Luke was surprised to be confronted by clones, which means that stormtroopers normally aren‘t.
"I don't like this." - 35:15
Yeah, no one did. 🥺
I like that Jyn and Kasian didn't have a romantic moment at the end... lesser movies don't have that much restraint.
It was very emotional but no romance which is great!
By the end I got the sense that their relationship could have turned romantic under different circumstances. That was enough.
@@TrentRidley the thing is, after Andor (this is not a big spoiler), I think it was not the beginning of romance at all. It was more like over this movie Andor saw Jyn as somebody who could replace his sister in his life.
Agreed! I always appreciate that they didn’t make any attempt at a romantic angle.
Not necessary.
@@VerowakReacts that's what I say as well! Haha
Vader's scene is one of the most epic one in the series... I LOVED IT
@@toukie facts!
yeah, when that saber lit up the red smoke and Vader standing there, the place went nuts. It was wild.
Saw this 4 times in the Theater. REALLY like it. ANDOR the show is had an incredible first season. Great storytelling.
4 times in the theatre must have been amazing to see! It's a movie I'll rewatch many times for sure, the story is well done
Have absolutey no interest in watching Andor. Don't care for Cassian.
@@hattymchappy If I don't care for the characters, I don't care for the show.
@It Approaches Well the show is named Andor. Fair enough. 😄
I can just imagine as a kid, Vader would have been terrifying. A ruthless killing machine that is unstoppable! It's really well done
Bear in mind, the first time that a lot of moviegoers saw Darth Vader was him emerging into a corridor. Only it was brightly lit and the Stormtroopers had already secured the position.
This scene is the same and yet entirely different.

"It's beautiful" is a haunting line.
My mother used to work for Veterans Affairs hospitals, and she interviewed a lot of people who had personally witnessed nuclear bomb tests in the 1950s and were potentially exposed to radiation. They all said the same thing...
If you can ignore the destruction, it really looks remarkable and beautiful. I personally hope to never witness something like that
I love this movie for showing the terrifying power and danger of fighting a Jedi/Sith for non force users
Vader just destroying everyone left right and center. I mean he's had plenty of practice but it's still nice to see the power difference
@@VerowakReacts There's a version of that vader scene with Queen's "Don't stop me now" overlayed instead of the original score. It's funny as hell XD
@@VerowakReacts It basically became a horror movie in that scene 🎬!
In my opinion this is my 2nd favorite star wars movie, and the TV show prequel Andor is a masterpiece of a TV show.
I've only heard great things about Andor so I'm excited to watch it! It's my 2nd favorite Star wars film too!
It's so awesome that it was the same!! That makes the details in this movie just that much more impressive
It also explains why there was no Blue Squadron.
They all died at Scarif.
And they made sure to kill Red 5 on screen, so Luke could have that call sign later on.
The Death Star blast on Jedha hits different when you realize it killed the little kid Jyn risked her life to save just hours earlier.
It would suck, risking your life so many times and saving people, just to have them all die from the Death Star
My kind as well! Dark and gritty is the way to go and they nailed it with this one. Dialogue was great, acting was great, story was great!
Look at andor too then . Exactly this kind of feeling .
And retconned to be named for the Rogue One mission in this movie.
"She stood in front of him." It is beautiful that you have noticed this moment, which tells us about the developing trust and relationship between them.
Yes! I love how they bonded over time. It was great seeing their interactions throughout the movie
Those characters truly were the fire that ignited the rebellion. QUite memorable
No, STARKILLER was the force that unleashed the rebellion.
@@adrianvulpes9509 that is not canon dude
even before disney bought star wars it wasn't
That's very interesting. Weird how he feels nothing for the series, that's a very unique view, but it turned out great!
@@MeleeHellBot Basically Dave Filoni is creating fanfic, and Tony Gilroy is creating art.
I'll never forget seeing this in the cinema. The saddest part was the night we saw the movie was the same night Carrie Fisher died. My favourite modern star wars movie by far!
Seeing this in the cinema must have been amazing!
I love how you're always thinking ahead and trying to piece together things that relate to the other movies. You are obviously intelligent and a passionate Star Wars fan. Thank you, lovely lady, for sharing your experience with us. 🤗
My pleasure! Thank you for enjoying the reactions and my thoughts throughout
So many Easter eggs in this! One of my favorites is an X-Wing you see blow up is "Red 5", leaving an open spot for Luke to take over as Red 5 in a New Hope!
The show Andor is incredible, don't let anyone say anything different. Add to the list.
It's definitely on my list!
I’ve been binging a lot of Star Wars reaction videos lately, and yours in this video has been my favorite BY FAR! All of your reactions are so real, and you can tell that you are genuinely interested in what you are watching. It’s so refreshing to see the connections you make to the rest of the movies!
I just loved Rogue One so much. It felt like there were so many callbacks to the other movies, and it was just so well made! And thank you 😍
K-2SO was also my favorite character in this movie.
Maybe it's just one of those things but Raz Ahmed's expression of realization at the end gets me a bit.
the reason they didn't do an opening crawl was because it is not an official episode number. it is a spin off.
although i like to call this Star Wars Episode 3.9
Andor takes place sometime before this
I know your going to love this movie.
Yes, @31:57 - they re-used the footage from the original StarWars for Red\Gold Leaders...
That's so awesome, thank you!
You probably figured it out, but I thought I should mention that a few snippets with Gold Leader and Red Leader were taken from unused footage from the first movie.

Definitely, and we see how many and why. Just seeing "many rebels died" doesn't give us the gravity of the situation they were in
My second fav star wars movie. Loved it. Except for the one star destroyer crashing into the other. That was a bit much to find believable with that tiny ship pushing it. The end scene with vader was just epoch
It's my second favorite too!! Vader being ruthless is what I've always wanted, and I'm so glad we got to see him in this movie
Love it!
The Vader scenes were so amazing. I feel the ending of this movie is just pure hype and excitement for fans
Rogue two was looking for Luke and Han on Hoth.
Andor show is the prequel to this movie, season 1 spans 1 year and it’s 5 years before Rogue One. Season 2 spans 4 years and it lead up to Rogue One. They are currently filming season 2, it will come out next year.
No scrolling text is one of the unique things about Rogue One. It was the film that also introduced Death Troopers to cinema canon.
No scrolling text really stands out lol. I'm glad there was none in the end
Yes- the lack of scrolling text and the abrupt music put you on notice to pay attention!
I've seen this movie the most out of all the Star Wars movies, and I'll 100% watch it again after Andor Season 2 comes out
The lightbulb moment at 7:29 was awesome, lmao. Great reaction, as always!
I've always wondered what Andor was about, assumed it was like a planet or something 🤣
I love that you said K2 says "whatever comes to his circuits" rather than mind...great detail!
I never even noticed the planet Wobani was an anagram of Obi-Wan. I'm glad that you pointed it out. I like hearing little bits of trivia sometimes.
It's neat to learn little things randomly :D
Im a person in his mid-30s who has been watching Star Wars ever since he was little, and Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie. It just beets the crap out of my nostalgia for the Original Trilogy and Visual Fidelity of the Prequel Trilogy.
They really managed to make an absolutely amazing film with this one. It feels so different from the rest and has such a great story
At 2:02, "I was relying on it to tell us when we were." That makes sense, yet sounds more like something one would say about Back to the Future, already referenced.
The character of general Moff Tarken is played by the actor Peter Curshing who died in 1994 is CGI as is Carrie Fisher
Yes it's the original actors for Red Leader and Gold Leader, because this was footage found from the original Star Wars filming which was unused. The actor for Gold Leader recorded new audio for this film. The actor who played Red Leader unfortunately passed away some time ago.
I love that they were able to do that
19:08 Han Solo in _The Force Awakens:_ "I sure hope so, Princess. Otherwise this is gonna be a really short infiltration."
Andor is the back story for Rogue One. It has a great jaw dropping ending after the end credits of the season finale.
I cannot wait for you to get into the show Andor. It is crazy good, and I've never felt more tense watching any Star Wars media
I'm really looking forward to it!!
@@VerowakReacts 😀 my 2nd fav after the original, A New Hope.
Over time, this has become my favorite StarWars Movie of all time
I can definitely see why, they did a remarkable job with this movie!
I agree with your assessment of this movie. I think this is some of the best Star Wars put on the screen. Great reaction.
@@andymiller6661 that's just plain stupid.
K2 is best droid for sure :D
@@VerowakReacts Well - only if you not count HK-47 from the game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic". He has the absolute best lines ever! But the game is not canon. 😜
Saw Gererra is a very violent and paranoid man. At some point you’ll find out why via other Star Wars content
"Hope you all have a drink or a snack..." Your videos mean Saturday morning coffee and a cigar!
The Vader scene shows exactly why Vader was feared, such an amazing scene! You don't fight him, you run.
I love that they showed this since I didn't get too much of a "Vader is ruthless and very strong" in the originals
And yet he was a complete geriatric sloth when he faced Obi-Wan a couple days later.
He was very much a Vader type of character, but ran on regret.
He was in a lot of pain and passed the torch to Jyn- his surrogate daughter.
I freaking love the editing on this one--great job!
Thanks! I'm always super critical and worried about the editing
They found unused footage from the rebel pilots in episode 4 and incorporated the footage into this movie.
Nice. I never thought anything would replace Empire as the best Star Wars movie for me, and then I saw this. Perfection.
It really is quite a fantastic and very well made movie!
I find your reaction precise and convincing. You want to know the odds that I watch the next one? They're high. Very high.
Well this time I'm glad to know the odds 🤣
"I feel like saw has lost his marbles, maybe?"
Saw Guerrera: "I am the only one with clarity of purpose!"
I don't trust him lol
@@VerowakReacts he is insane, but he's great
Only thing that comes to mind is Hook...
Literally everyone has that same reaction 😂
I love this gleeful reaction
YES!!!! Just them saying the line is just awesome 😁
5:53 Oooooh, nice catch. Wobani is an anagram of Obiwan.
I'm glad I caught that!
Great reaction! maybe someone already told you this, but after the slap at 13:28, Diego Luna actually covers his face so you can't see him laughing.
That's the thing, the full story couldn't be told in 6 movies, hence The Clone Wars, Rebels, Rogue One, etc. They all add chapters to the whole story.
At first I was hesitant to accept all of the new films and story lines but this film does show you the sacrifices that the rebellion made to try and defeat the empire - awesome film and great review as usual : ) You will love SOLO
This movie really shows a different side and what the Rebels had to go through to even have a chance at beating the Emperor
You got this emotional about K-2. I wonder what kind of rollercoaster "Cast Away" will do.
So far, this is the only Star Wars movie put out from Disney that I like. I keep hope alive they'll eventually find their way and put out some more worthwhile SW movies.
It feels like they've been focusing on Star Wars TV series lately, I don't know if they're planning any movies
Yeah, and some of the TV offerings are decent. I did somewhat enjoy The Mandalorian.
I think this might just be my favorite reaction. This is the closest I've ever seen to Verowak being turned into a giggling, squeeing mess. I love it. 😁
IT definitely doesn't happen often, this was a rare one for sure
You're a dee gee too?! great minds!!
@@deegee6863 Dee Gee high five! 🖐
Could not agree more, any new Star Wars content made should be like this!
My third favourite film in the franchise.
I really enjoyed your reaction.
Rogue One always gets me in the feels.
Very easy to get hit in the feels with this one, it's really well made
I'm so glad you liked it!
XD
Can't wait for Andor! ❤
I'm not very fussy when it comes to CGI, I never understand how people complain a LOT about CGI like it ruins a movie :/
That's perfectly put "I don't trust anyone who doesn't love K2" !!! Exactly it :D
It shows the Rebellion making strategic errors as well, which is some welcome realism.
Be sure to watch the ANDOR tv series. It's been my favorite of all STAR WARS thus far... very cerebral, very adult. And watch them in chunks of three; they're roughly structured that way (in regards to buildup and climaxes).
I'm going to watch Obi-Wan Kenobi, then Andor! I'm pretty excited for both
@@VerowakReacts They're very different, tonally, but I think you'll love them both.
I’d go for Andor first, if I were you….
@@adzthesaint I'm already halfway through Obi-Wan 🤣
@@VerowakReacts uh oh! Still, stick with it.
Andor is a masterpiece. Enjoy!
I first watched this shortly after Carrie Fisher died. That last seen with Leia got me.
K2 for me definitely. Though Chirrut was still devastating.
Vader just didn't pull any punches in those final moments, it was great to see
This is the first video of yours that I came across, but I couldn't watch it until I had seen your original trilogy reactions, so even though I have been following you for months, I have only gotten around to this one now...
This is by far the best Star Wars movie Disney has made. It's my 4th fav in the whole franchise.
Leia: "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan."
Vader: "Young Lady, I literally just watched you fly away from a terrorist attack on an imperial base. I killed 10 of your guard about 20 minutes ago! So don't you try and pull that 'I'm a member of the Imperial Senate' shit with me."
Yes! I love that we see she was obviously lying to his face 😂
@@VerowakReacts Teenagers lying to their parents about who they were with, where they were and what they were doing. SMH. No respect. :D

Thank you! This movie was so great to watch
solo was good, but the Andor series was exceptional! Impressive how you have enough insight to predict the flow of the movies, and, appreciate their place in the series. Love how immersed your get. Great review!
