When you do the trace, you can tell corel to merge certain colours. This could merge the creams and greys that make up the curves into a chosen colour automatically. It can help with low res bitmap images that end up with multiple colours in the final trace caused by the low res image. (I think Corel picks up subtle differences in colour from the original image, and interprets them as different shades).
