We ended up with the biggest tournament yet! Over 500 people. Many many thanks to all the staff and best of luck to the competitors.
I share some strategic thoughts for the game of Risk: Global Domination.

Black player here from the game. It was clear from pretty early on that Pete would win the game with all the bonuses he was holding. I considered taking the first continet that Pete ended up taking (2 territories for +4 per turn, with two blizzards in it), but decided against it due to the fact that Pete could have broken my bonus when he started his turn with +6 troops in Afriac. I was relatively slow in taking over continents, mostly because I didn't want draw too much attentio . In hindsight, that was my first, and probably biggest mistake this game. Putting a few troops on round 2 into the Turkey region and getting a take there, rather than trying to clear the British isles faster, was the second mistake.
I had an ok relationship going with both blue and pink, with relatively unmilitarized borders while I expanded slowly into France. Blue broke me out of the blue (pun intended), but luckily I had a set to quickly retaliate and break his bonuses. Too bad I didn't have enough troops in that region to kill blue (I was also hoping that blue would reconsider attacking me after I didn't push him out completely from scandinavia. That was probably mistake number three. I was happy that Pete didn't break my bonus when he killed blue, and was considering to break or take scandinavia on my turn, but the zombies did that for me. After blue died, pink decided to suicide into me. I got lucky when pink attacked me as they opened up my biggest stack which allowed me to kill him. I gathered from Pete's behavior that he was letting me have second, so I stayed put in the corner.
The zombie strike at the very end was hilarious, as I didn't expect it at all. Thanks Pete for trying to give me second, it was definitely noticed and appreciated!

I'm sorry Toldi. If I had either placed a few more troops over there or rolled the small stack before the big stack we'd likely both have an additional two points. Looking forward to facing you again.

I probably watched 60-70% of your video backlog by now (mostly in the background while I do stuff and then I glance over when you make kills or explain strategies) and have a learned a great deal from them. Your videos quality has greatly improved over time (both in terms of the video itself and the content in it). Now I am continiuing on the long and ardous path to GM :)

I saw this comment before watching the video. I was hoping for an ending where Pete had all but one zombie territory taken out and then black broke out to get the bounty. 😄

@@danhelsing5131 I think they do. 22 points for a perfect game. First and second bounties for a player are 3 each, third bounty is worth 2, fourth and fifth bounties 1 point each. The zombies would have to count to make it work.
Pete showed compassion and displayed a sense of good sportsmanship... You must purge yourself of these weaknesses

Your insight into the other players' moves is incredible. Realising where White was every turn, and when to strike; realising when Black had tried and failed to kill Blue, leaving them on the ropes -- your read of each player's character and actions in fog is winning you so many bonuses. Amazing to see
I love the fog gameplay because it shows how much better Pete really is

What can I say about this game, last in turn, first on outbreak (takes one territory... EPIC WIN), easy clean-up for some great territory (uncontested), with a zombie meme worthy kill at the end stealing a few points. Great game, great understanding but most importantly great fun! Thanks Pete.

I just came across this channel recently and had no clue people still played risk let alone there are world championships! I played classic risk and axis and allies a ton as a young man. Love to see people still rocking on this game and really enjoying the content! Cheers mate!

What a great game Pete! There seems to be a pattern for the zombie infection. In this game it seems like they infect a territory (last) taken by a player. It maybe helps to destroy the zombies closest to the last player first so that the infected will be way out.
Amazing! You'd suffered so much from going last in the practice videos that I thought you might struggle, but you had a great spawn this time which basically sealed the win turn 1! Gutted for black getting 3rd after your good sportsmanship though... Bloody Zombies! 🤣 GG matey

Surprised the common sentiment is that going last is a bad position. In my practice games I became convinced that going last was incredibly OP because at any point you could just decide to break your opponent and let the zombies destroy their position forcing them to immediately decide whether to suicide into you, spend all their troops recovering their lost territory, or running to avoid being eliminated.
At the same time, if they break you can repair with little harm done.
I dislike going last on the larger maps typically.
I downloaded this on mobile after watching you about a month ago, just broke the 100k barrier and absolutely loving it after the first week, congratulations on the victory Pete, oh so nearly very gentlemanly and I hope to be competing soon. Thanks for the rekindling of my interest, you da man 💪🙏

Hey Pete! Been binge watching loads of your content and after struggling to hold intermediate I started using your approach to 6 player progressive and I managed to hit master yesterday!

Funny how woth such very different settings, this and the prior round ended up playing out in a very similar fashion.

Unlucky ending. Lots of coinciding elements:
Black had to survive your rolls.
Zombies had to infect.
Infection had to be near black's territory.
Attack had to go black's direction.
Is there no bounty awarded for killing the zombies?
The key mistake I made was rolling the big stack first.
I had 41 to kill 36 it was a very unlikely event.

I guess sometimes in the short term you aren't rewarded for kindness, but I like to think you usually are rewarded for it in the long term. I'm sure black appreciated the gesture anyway.

Lmao, to think all you had to do was add like a 40 stack by him to make sure bad dice can’t get you. How unlucky for black 😢. I’m sure he appreciated you trying to give it to him. I didn’t even know it was possible to get infected a second time. So crazy man! I’ve been playing this map a ton since those settings came out. It’s really fun and also super tilting when you get a bad start and basically just instantly lose because without a bonus turn 1 or 2 it’s usually just game over. I can’t believe nobody tried to stop you. If White Player hadn’t been interrupted, I think we would have added to that white stack and completely disrupted you. There are so many things that can go wrong on that map. But I’m addicted to it, I lost GM playing on it because it’s to snowbally if someone gets a super good start. I actually like going last sometimes because you get the most troops and can watch the other player’s. If you pay attention, a lot of people will over extend on turn one. You let them kill everything and then just mop them up before they ever get started. 😂 pretty mean but it seems to work in many cases.
Hey Pete I jus found your videos last week and am addicted to them, I am curious why you do the championships with zombie settings instead of another mode like capital conquest or world dom
I wasn't responsible for the settings. There is a prevailing wisdom that these tournaments should show a range of modes. I feel like perhaps they pay too much attention to that.
Despite the ending you still remain first among equals as you continue to stomp on your human opponents!!!!

Small point: at 5:20 after you changed your camera position you were talking about where you would go, probably indicating it with your mouse. Unfortunately the mouse doesn't get captured in the game until you've clicked in it once more.
