@@1upLeviathan You can tell with DOA6. It is somewhat realistic but the fighting is similar for each character and the DLC is overpriced. At least Mortal Kombat gives 6 characters plus DLC stuff.
DoA5: Last Round is a collection of the previous versions that includes the DLC characters and some of the outfits from the DLC packs. This allows anyone to revisit this version of the game without having to worry about losing content. Outfits are 100% optional and do not add to the experience but characters and stages do. When a fighting game releases a new version, it's for longevity / collective reasons. I hope you understand.

These guys gotta bring back the hold system from DOA1, man. You had a 'parry' button, and with two good players, no one got knocked to the ground for long periods of time, making it resemble actual martial arts. All they have to do is add two defensive buttons, parry and hold. Holds are takedowns, while a parry knocks the attack aside. Parries should be fast, easy to pull off and have no recovery frames and be able to be buffered; holds should be harder to do, have a small window of success and long recovery times. This serves two purposes; parries will be the defensive option of choice, even more than blocking, whereas holds can break up the infinite 'back and forth' of parrying, and be much more interesting to watch because you're not seeing the same animation every 2 seconds. See, with more diverse parry styles, and functionality built into the parry system (like say, parry and lead the opponent left, right, back or forward), watching AND playing matches would be much more interesting, because this parry play just naturally layers on top of what DOA already is Also, a way to counter a hold as it's happening would be super cool as well. Those elaborate hold animations could have equally elaborate mid-hold counter animations. It's like nobody is thinking about the design of these fighting games - there's SOOOOO much they could do, very, very easily, right NOW, that would catapult their game into the stratosphere and make it instantly amazing. Is that not obvious to these guys?!?! I just don't get it...
Sounds interesting, I'm not sure what you are referring to though there already is parrying in the game especially with characters like Christie, Hayate, Rachel, etc... who have specific parrying moves but everyone can sidestep. The throw countering idea is pretty interesting although I don't know how that would work. I don't remember what you're talking about being in DOA1, DOA1 was mostly a virtual fighter clone and the series didn't really establish its identity until DOA2
YOYOdaMOOSE Well, how about check out some DOA 1 videos? The fact of the matter is, the specific parries need to be a central part of the game, just like blocking. This is martial arts, they ALL should be able to redirect attacks. It's the main factor in hand to hand combat. This also changes the game. Ideally, we don't want to be 'blocking' in the traditional sense. One type of 'block' is very very unrealistic, we need to move past that simplicity, it's 2014!
Also, redirection allows you to 'control' your opponent when you are unable to deal damage. Someone with a sliver of health left could much more easily stay alive, because they can 'redirect' and avoid dying from chip damage. Come on, guys! Let's think here.
Dead or Alive 3 was a guilty pleasure of mine back on the Xbox. Wish I hadn't of sold it, but it's a fun kind of mindless fighter. I kinda want to pick this up down the road, I'm a huge fighting game fanatic and kinda want something less "super competitive" at least in my experience with DOA 3.
There are actually at least 400 confirmed in-game costumes, 70-80 percent of which will be unlockable, including all of the DLC from vanilla DOA5 and DOA5+ on-disc and a bunch of new costumes. It may have a few of Ultimate's older, non-bikini sets too, but that's not confirmed.
WisperG it would be nice to know what the new package will actually contain, sounds promising about the 70-80% of the costumes being unlockable though. it should of been all the costumes though isn't it about time they just released the definitive doa5 with all dlc and used those sales to start working on doa6 (as long as it has hitomi)
I haven't finished the video yet so I have no idea if this is addressed. I also understand that Nick is a big anime fan. DOA is also a good fighting game mechanically at its core. I've always respected Rev3 for calling things as they are, actually analyzing the medium and the industry. Yet, nothing is mentioned of DOA's complete objectification of women in the character models and costumes. Let alone, the ridiculous DLC practices of nickle and diming for bikini and maid getups and having half as many costumes available for the male characters. There is also some story recently about some new mechanic to actually control the "jiggle physics" the series is infamous for. Nick could have stepped up to the plate and asked about it, whether open ended or critical. Without anything like that, this just came off as basically an advertisement. Doesn't help that Tom Lee is softspoken and makes the conversation seem stilted at times.

Well in my opinion, (and this is unbiased) the old DOA games were much more about objectifying the women. The game had sex jokes for a few of the female characters, and 90% of the costumes for the girl were skimpy in some way or another. It was essentially fan service. Especially with the release of Extreme Beach Volleyball where eye-candy was the goal. But starting from DOA5 and onward, it's no longer about the sex. Yes the women have more costumes. Yes quite a few of them are bikinis. However, that's as far as it goes. The women themselves aren't portrayed as simple sex objects. There was even an attempt for "skimpy" clothing for the men in which most had MMA-style boxing shorts and gloves. I assume this didn't do too good since something like that was never released again. When compared to the old games, it does in fact have more of a mature tone. The DLC doesn't even need to be purchased. and the "jiggling" in the game be switched off. I hope this helps in some way.

DOA5 pushes soooo many sexy dlc costumes and none of the DOA games really sexualized the girls much beyond them being really hot they certainly didn't have more revealing costumes than DOA5 does, I can't think of any sex jokes or anything like that the only one I can think of is Christie teasing Elliott in DOA5. I've always found people complaining that DOA girls are too hot a bizarre complaint
The new characters will probably be Victor Donovan or Joe Musashi (from SHINOBI - Sega). For the girls: Irene Lew, the girl with pink hair from Doa Extreme volleyball 2 or Vanessa Lewis.
I've switched systems from last gen to current gen going from Xbox 360 to PS4, so am I basically out of luck when it comes to having my DLC carry over from what I bought in DOA 5 Ultimate on my 360 to DOA 5 Last Round, which I plan on buying for PS4?. It would be cool if there was a way to confirm your purchases from other systems.

So technically DOA4 was the superior game in series my following reasons are DOA4 is DOA 4 had smooth game play you didnt need to complain about the game being un fair cuz the juggling wasnt too horrible and there was no such thing as critical blow which gives noobs a chance to punish you secondly DOA4 had an arcade feel to it which means it is easy to play and did not require you to Learn the move set like DOA4 there it wasnt lacking content like DOA5 it had every costume and character needed
-power blows are not an easy way for noobs to punish you because you need to charge them up. They are easily identifiable and can be blocked or countered(I've won many online matches by ending with countering a power blow) -your second statement about how DOA 4 was easier makes no sense when you called the power blows nooby(which they aren't. They're the fairest and most balanced comeback mechanic in a fighting game). DOA 5 is also simple to understand and grasp, but it has more depth hidden underneath the surface than 4. There's a lot more systems an mechanics and larger movesets in place for the player to learn and understand. It finds a happy medium between being accessible and also taking skill when you decide to delve into it. -okay, yeah. Previous DOA's did have all costumes, but that's still less content than 5. DOA 5 Last Round even with the shitty DLC abuse has 409 costumes in total you do not have to pay for. That's more than has ever Ben introduced to the series ever and it also has 34 characters which is again, the largest roster the series has seen yet. Yes, Team Ninja absolutely abuses the DLC, but even with all that abuse, Last Round still contains more content than any previous DOA game.

Rock, paper, scissors? I think between them they used about 1 counter the whole time.... DOA5 is too heavy on attack than defense... 75% attack 20% throw and 5% counter.... DOA4 was more balanced, better stages and gameplay
The holds?, most of the time in DOA5 the animation misses the opponent if they are mid-strike anyway... never had a problem with that in DOA4 for some reason.. think they need to re-think the gameplay mechanics
They should have altered the damage parameters rather than changing the counter timing though... the triangle system doesn't work if its just attack... attack.. attack.. attack... especially hard to do counters online with lag
So basically the last gen's ver. of Last Round only holds the costumes, not the stages, and is cut off by 10 bucks from the price of $40. Guess I'll take my money elsewhere. I only saw 2 of the 3 characters worth the buy though their quality made things questionable. The Last Round excluding stages from the old gen is also something I don't understand.
The character models are still some of, if not the the best looking of any 3D fighting game out there. Stage and environmental graphics and textures were pretty meh though.
***** DOA4 looked like what it was, a port up from the original XBox. It looks roughly the same as DOA3 and DOA2 Ultimate. DOA5 boasts hugely improved character models, but sacrifices have been made to the stages to achieve that. DOA5 Last Round iis con current and previous gen, and the obvious result of that is that its not going to be able to exploit the new hardware fully because it still has to run on the previous gen consoles as well.
But there are graphical improvements. That's one of the biggest selling points of the PS4/Xbone versions, aside from the new characters, stages, costumes, balancing updates, etc.
2 new characters, new costumes and hairstyles, and new stages dude! And the graphical improvements are super obvious if your're a DOA5 fan it's more than worth it especially at like $30

Let alone, the ridiculous DLC practices of nickle and diming for bikini and maid getups and having half as many costumes available for the male characters. There is also some story recently about some new mechanic to actually control the "jiggle physics" the series is infamous for. Nick could have stepped up to the plate and asked about it, whether open ended or critical. Without anything like that, this just came off as basically an advertisement. Doesn't help that Tom Lee is softspoken and makes the conversation seem stilted at times.

Well in my opinion, (and this is unbiased) the old DOA games were much more about objectifying the women. The game had sex jokes for a few of the female characters, and 90% of the costumes for the girl were skimpy in some way or another. It was essentially fan service. Especially with the release of Extreme Beach Volleyball where eye-candy was the goal. But starting from DOA5 and onward, it's no longer about the sex. Yes the women have more costumes. Yes quite a few of them are bikinis. However, that's as far as it goes. The women themselves aren't portrayed as simple sex objects. There was even an attempt for "skimpy" clothing for the men in which most had MMA-style boxing shorts and gloves. I assume this didn't do too good since something like that was never released again. When compared to the old games, it does in fact have more of a mature tone. The DLC doesn't even need to be purchased. and the "jiggling" in the game be switched off. I hope this helps in some way.

For better or worse I don't think this narrative about DOA5 moving away from sex appeal has turned out to be true. DOA5 pushes soooo many sexy dlc costumes and none of the DOA games really sexualized the girls much beyond them being really hot they certainly didn't have more revealing costumes than DOA5 does, I can't think of any sex jokes or anything like that the only one I can think of is Christie teasing Elliott in DOA5. I've always found people complaining that DOA girls are too hot a bizarre complaint

I've switched systems from last gen to current gen going from Xbox 360 to PS4, so am I basically out of luck when it comes to having my DLC carry over from what I bought in DOA 5 Ultimate on my 360 to DOA 5 Last Round, which I plan on buying for PS4?. It would be cool if there was a way to confirm your purchases from other systems.

I wish Itagaki was still making DOA we would still have the characters looking anime and the game would play aboslutely amazing with entire different stages that are new after DOA 4 there was nothing that could top DOA especially DOA 5 or the other versions of the game and if anyone replies I not just only look at the one aspect of DOA 4 but different aspects including the fact that DOA 4 is easy to play and kept you busy for hours and also graphically DOA 4 topped Doa 5

Yeah pretty lame to be honest. Was hoping for those 2 stages on current gen even though im still getting the game for PS4. And heard there only 2 stages being added. My dreams of other DoA stages being added has been crushed. Maybe there will be DLC stages but I doubt it :(

So technically DOA4 was the superior game in series my following reasons are DOA4 is DOA 4 had smooth game play you didnt need to complain about the game being un fair cuz the juggling wasnt too horrible and there was no such thing as critical blow which gives noobs a chance to punish you secondly DOA4 had an arcade feel to it which means it is easy to play and did not require you to Learn the move set like DOA4 there it wasnt lacking content like DOA5 it had every costume and character needed
-power blows are not an easy way for noobs to punish you because you need to charge them up. They are easily identifiable and can be blocked or countered(I've won many online matches by ending with countering a power blow)
-your second statement about how DOA 4 was easier makes no sense when you called the power blows nooby(which they aren't. They're the fairest and most balanced comeback mechanic in a fighting game). DOA 5 is also simple to understand and grasp, but it has more depth hidden underneath the surface than 4. There's a lot more systems an mechanics and larger movesets in place for the player to learn and understand. It finds a happy medium between being accessible and also taking skill when you decide to delve into it.
-okay, yeah. Previous DOA's did have all costumes, but that's still less content than 5. DOA 5 Last Round even with the shitty DLC abuse has 409 costumes in total you do not have to pay for. That's more than has ever Ben introduced to the series ever and it also has 34 characters which is again, the largest roster the series has seen yet. Yes, Team Ninja absolutely abuses the DLC, but even with all that abuse, Last Round still contains more content than any previous DOA game.

Why bother with last gen? We already have Ultimate. Last Round should be a next gen rerelease like The Last of Us Remastered or Tomb Raider Definitive Edition. And then it wouldn't be held back by last gen as well.

I really liked the direction where 5 was/is going and, while I don't mind DLC costumes, I just felt like 5 was so empty. I owned 5 then bought Ultimate and THAT felt more like a complete fighter. Im not liking that Team Ninja, a very giving company, is now following Capcoms footsteps

Rock, paper, scissors? I think between them they used about 1 counter the whole time.... DOA5 is too heavy on attack than defense... 75% attack 20% throw and 5% counter.... DOA4 was more balanced, better stages and gameplay

The holds?, most of the time in DOA5 the animation misses the opponent if they are mid-strike anyway... never had a problem with that in DOA4 for some reason.. think they need to re-think the gameplay mechanics

Lol everybody uses counters constantly in DOA and DOA4 was probably the least balanced, counters did way too much damage in that game.
They should have altered the damage parameters rather than changing the counter timing though... the triangle system doesn't work if its just attack... attack.. attack.. attack... especially hard to do counters online with lag

Guess I'll take my money elsewhere. The quality in the DLC bombed since last year, and i'm heavily disappointed that it's nothing but a tit catalog with no serious outfits or characters. Shit, I'd even accept *Yaiba* as a DLC character at this point but I guess not.

The character models are still some of, if not the the best looking of any 3D fighting game out there. Stage and environmental graphics and textures were pretty meh though.

DOA5 boasts hugely improved character models, but sacrifices have been made to the stages to achieve that. DOA5 Last Round iis con current and previous gen, and the obvious result of that is that its not going to be able to exploit the new hardware fully because it still has to run on the previous gen consoles as well.
It's the same game without graphical improvements. You've nuts if you buy this game!

The bonus stuff is nice but ultimately this is a next gen port, people with PS4s and Xbones want to keep playing the game, that's why they made it and it's more like every year than every 6 months, I would jizz in my pants if TN announced they were coming out with a new version of doa5 every year until DOA6 at $30 like last round is on PSN

Rather they should make dead or alive xtreme beach volleyball volley 2 for the ps3 and fix the issues with that game instill of making another same copy with dead or alive 5 and ultimate. Story wise well it great without tell me to do this move three or four time just to past to another character.
