  • Everyday, when Nyabel Wal thinks of preparing food for her family of five, she has only one option: to harvest the wild grass that grows near her home. Subscribe to UNICEF here: bit.ly/1ltTE3m.
Known locally as 'woor', the plant grows virtually everywhere in South Sudan, and it is believed to be the only weed sustaining the deteriorating lives of thousands of people in Upper Nile State from starvation, but it is far from enough to remain healthy. Nyabel’s baby, who was found to be suffering from severe acute malnutrition, is one of hundreds of thousands of children in South Sudan’s three most conflict-affected states who remains at imminent risk of death and disease.
Help us reach South Sudan's children with life-saving aid: uni.cf/helpsouthsudan.
UNICEF - with support from the humanitarian arm of the European Commission (ECHO), IKEA and the Government of Japan - has deployed a rapid response team to reach remote areas with desperately needed services, like health screening and treatment, as well as life-saving supplies, such as ready-to-use therapeutic foods, micronutrient supplements and medicines.

There is an excellent ministry called Harvest Gardens that works to grow vegetable gardens in impoverished areas. Each garden costs £500 and can be named by the sponsor or sponsors. They go to a community and teach them the techniques to yield great results to produce food enough to feed 50 people in the first year, so initially that is £10 per head for a year. Then after that they can feed 200 and sell produce in the market and educate surrounding villages that become curious. It's a wonderful initiative.

Awakened Spirit okay, so do you know what HRPG is? And what LRPG is? In places like that, they have low population of growth and they want many "boys" to work for their family. Its simple as that.

I think they are eating vegetables. South Sudanese they don't know the difference between grass and vegetables. My mother cultivated vegetables around our house during the 21 years of war and other members of the community did not know how she did it. My father was in another country teaching. We cultivated with her too as children. We were healthy and she kept us safe. I think South Sudanese need to be taught how to grow food, that country is very fertile. People just have to start working and they will be okay. And where are the men? I always see women and their children begging for the UN WFP. Let men go back to the villages to protect their families since the war has ceased now. Grow food, sell and have it for consumption too. Bless South 2020!!

Just take farm waste like leaves, grass etc and put them in a plastic bag to ferment for 2-8 days depending on the temperature them place them in open after some time flies appears there and put their larvae on that bin and you need to continue do this and it will give you continuous supply larvae of different species for your hen you can aslo feed insects on cow or goat dung

shouldn't they have the right to learn about this mentality? instead of telling people it is their freedom to have kids, then everyone need to help them, because u will be too cruel if you don't. indeed, most of the donations can't actually provide any help? but into the pocket of others

That's a great way to instill eating disorders with your kids/cause obesity. Let them eat until they're full, then you adjust the portion size to something reasonable for the next meal. Don't blame your kids because first world governments would rather pay their farmers to till their crop into the ground to keep the price high than send it to starving people.

What makes you angry with your kids when they waste food you can't compare the 2 because your kids not wasting food will not make any difference to their not having enough and your kids will know that probably more than you seem to do and will end up feeling your unfair and unconsistant and they will end up resenting you because of it

So what? i forage for wild edible plants all the time on my land in South Carolina. One person can live quite easily off the wild plants on only 5 acres of land, its called Homesteading, and a lot of people are doing it now. Its not the lack of food that drives these people hungry, its due to extreme ignorance. These people dont know how to manage their crops, and how to identify useful wild edibles.

Sorry to says, you have time to make so many kids and which can't even feed them well and not even know how to educate them. Please just work hard on your own ground of yours instead always wait for other to feeds you. While make others feel sorry for you and make me feel bad for not helping while I m here work so stress and can't even have kids and you have so many and expect ppl to help. Showing all this picture and like advertisement.

jacquelin Eng woww what a selfish judgement. The main reason is there are not educated like you they wouldn't know having more children can lead to consequences. They may also be too poor to buy condoms. And do you know there are rebellious groups that kill people and rape women. So yeah keep living in your bubble and consider yourself more miserable than them while you use UA-cam and they starve to death
