+DeravDday Yeah, anyone who was paying attention noticed this during the Bush administration when the mainstream media became really blatant with their pro-Republican bias.
During 20-some years as a journalist I never gave people softball questions. The people I interviewed knew I was doing my job. If someone refused to talk to a specific reporter they were met with deafening silence from everybody, and that is worse than suicide for a politician.
Ana, you are completely on point...TYT is lucky to have your inteligence, your comprehensive analytical opinion, and your integrity. Ignore all the Negative Nancy's here who are just trolls with nothing better to do apparently-as they are the real Nobody's here. Thank you for the Independent work you do and all your collegues.
Ana Kasparian you are a goddess and a freaking Amazon woman in mental and emphatic strength. I want a t-shirt with your face on it with the tyt logo. I love the woman you are and the real strength you have as a woman to do what's right and not take the handouts from the corrupt that could make your life easier. I have a deep loving admiration for you as a person! I hope you read this!
In the UK we have a couple of journalists that are so well known for their "hardball" questions that the politicians basically have to go on their show in order to demonstrate their ability and get support from voters. Jeremy Paxman was one. It is a shame this isn't the same case in the US.
We used to have those. Oddly, they seem to have died out right around when the Internet gained steam. Barbara Walters was legendary for taking anyone and everyone to the mat.
wasn't Larry King supposed to have been like that? I was too young to remember clearly, but he's now working for RT (Russia today) while our media has become blatant propaganda. Makes me wonder...
+Charles Eye I use several news sites and try to understand the bias of each of them. Of course RT has their own agenda, but it's still a valuable source especially when their articles offer much more detail than other sites.
There are definitely people that appreciate what you do. The fact that you get paid so little while the people who only pretend to do your job live within means well beyond their level of comfort and security is preposterous.
media seems to forget one thing. everybody could ask tough questions because as media needs access to politics, politics NEED access to voters via the media. They could easily turn this around and do a better job.
Yeah tyt, even Kanye asks peeps to give him money, but at least you guys and gals would deserve some. Sorry, been a while since I had a dig at Kanye, I was developing a twitch.
You guys hit it on the head about this! They are trying to be entertainment news now. No need for holding anyone accountable, it's not part of the game plan anymore.
Nothing "accidental" or "inadvertent" about what he said. He said it exactly correctly because that's precisely what he was trying to communicate. Sigh
If you remember from Machiavelli, or the Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, it is the opposition party which is supposed to hold the incumbent accountable and force them to stay honest by offering that competitive scrutiny. But as Machiavelli and Gibbon made clear, that was on the basis of the parties in Rome representing different social classes with incompatible interests. The reason it has not been happening in the US is because the parties increasingly have been representing the same social class, which is the new aristocracy of Wall Street. The outcome for Rome when the Optimates gained absolute control through the political corruption that the new wealth of Empire and mass enslavement had enabled them to buy, was "absolute power corrupts absolutely", meaning the corruption of the state itself, not just individuals, leading to a century of civil wars and the end of the Republic. What I'm saying is, the press would be bolder if the competition between the parties was substantive rather than fictional.
+Patrick Holt Nice thesis, but a Capitalist based society is a major force in the press's behavior. Compared to the press in China, the U.S. news outlets are on the bold side.
The last person that should talk about this is John.. We all remember your interview with Wasserman-shill. You did exactly everything what you guys are critisising those other reports of.
21 years ago, one of my professors in broadcast journalism shocked the class when he told us that the main function of the mass media was NOT to inform the public, hold powerful people accountable, and search and report the truth. He told us to stop dreaming because the main function of the mass media is to be and remain a business! Most of us went into journalism to serve the public by reporting facts, exposing the truth as part of the check and balance system. Remember the journalists that exposed Watergate? Journalism used to be the tool that people had to hold those in powerful position and corrupted individuals accountable!. True journalism is dead, if you work for the networks! I wouldn't be surprised if Tony, the reporter with a slip of the tongue, got fired or re-assigned to force him to quit. The mass media (broadcasting and papers) is totally corrupted at the top.
Often on BBC news either the radio or the television they often use the re-frame that they asked a governmental department or business to comment on an issue and there was no-one available! like if there's another story about how poor the customer service is from EDF! of course the idea that no-one in a huge organization such as that was available is ludicrous! most british broadcasters will ask the tough questions so I don't understand why these US outlets can't grow a pair and do the same.
Never thought I would hear the day TYT would talk about Charlie Sykes, in Milwaukee we applaud him for going after Trump. But overall he hasn't shown a positive track record of great journalism with local news/events.
Tony fundamentally misunderstands his job. It is not to be a conduit between politicians and the public, it is to be a conduit between the truth and the public. On-air access to liars is in no way useful for reporting the truth. The job is not to maintain relationships with those in power, it is to sharply question those in power, and if they end up refusing to answer those questions, or even speak to you, it is no loss.
The reporter's "Reveal" looks neither Accidental nor Inadvertent. At least from the clip we see here... Seems like he was just being straight up, addressing what we already know.
Ana Kasparian You know that if you worked for a major media network (such as MSNBC, ABC, CNN, FOX, etc.) you wouldn't have the freedom to say that a candidate refuses to be interviewed by you because he or she is afraid of the tough questions. You would be fired or taken off the air in a New York minute by those who run and own the network and their sponsors! You have the courage to keep your professional integrity by working for or via independent media. Wouldn't it be awesome if more true journalists had your courage or stood up to the networks fearlessly? What would happen to the networks if all journalists decided to regain their professional integrity and began to practice true journalism independently from networks' agenda? Oh, those were the days.... As far as I am concerned, none of these networks practice true journalism and are a huge disgrace to the profession! On the other hand, Amy Goodman is a great example of a true journalist. She reports the facts, does not try to manipulate the audience, conducts interviews without debating, and upholds the true principles of journalism.
Sounds like he was being honest, not accidentally revealing anything. The news network wants to make sure they can do interviews because that's what gets the viewers / ratings. I guess that IS an issue with journalism if you can't say anything too negative / question them too hard and offend them so you loose any chance of interviewing in the future.
Yeah!! What you said!! I wish I had a back button for typed words in this comment box. I just typed a great response, I thought and it magically disappeared before I could press "post". Sound familiar? Bring back the "Fairness Act", that's what went wrong to the Media.
What that reporter basically said was - "We have to be nice to Trump because we want to be able to keep going back to him. But we can be quite frank about our disregard for giving our viewers real news, because, what, they're not gonna come back to us??"
Before anyone waxes too poetic about "journalistic integrity" they should probably look at the amount of editorializing going on around here -- which is hardly what Jim Lehrer would regard as "reporting the facts."
Stephen Kuehn I am not worried about Drumpf, but Shillary's and Craz's backers are bad/organised enough to try something. That is why I want the US to #FeelTheBern - among many other reasons.
Ana, when you get lifted up along with the Young Turks (which only grows in popularity) and eventually become rich and influential, that kind of attitude will make sure that no one at the network forgets there roots! Save our Media Ana!
You can't just criticize them TYT and not give any solutions. If they didn't get access to these politicians then you wouldn't have any clips to talk about. They have to walk the line.
Jonathan Seale do you watch this show? how many times ana couldnt say word? or didnt even knew what it meant? Im not making stuff up. watch the show then lets talk.
+Sharky Do you watch this show? How many times is Ana unable to say certain words? Or didn't know the correct meaning of a word? I'm not making this stuff up (English be damned). Watch the show and then lets talk.
Only problem is, some people actually don't see anything wrong with the media not asking real questions. They're just to oblivious, ignorant, and/or plain dumb.
+Meow Meow All the questions are pretty objective and neutral, asking Bernie what policy he will want from hilary if he loose, would he have hilary as part of his cabinet, questions regarding his policies, which hostile question that is policy related would you have asked? There is only 2 I can think of and bernie have already answered them many times, one regarding gun control(which he has responded many times) and the other one is electability(which the polls answers this question). What question that is policy based would you have asked him? (pressed wrong button, I am asking the original commentor)
Sad part is some people are JUST figuring this out because of this guy.. At least words getting out lol
lol
you need the mass media to expose the mass media
Agreed, but I'm guessing more and more of them are starting to wake up to the fact that they are either well paid OR they can have integrity.
+DeravDday
Yeah, anyone who was paying attention noticed this during the Bush administration when the mainstream media became really blatant with their pro-Republican bias.
+Brandi Eckert ... AKA the Howard Dean paradigm
I'm guessing TYT just got a new employee cause I'm sure that guy was fired 5 mins later.
I think he would be a great addition on TYT.
+The Dynast Queen Do you mean MSNBC?
+Che1ck No he means tyt would hire him after msnbc fires him.
Ethan Bradbaby I see.... I don't think Cenk can afford to hire anyone else, given Ana's commentary on how much she makes.
+Che1ck wait what?
So glad Ana is back.
I'm surprised they didn't cut him off.
wow Ana.....you're looking fabulous in this video
+Peter Von Crastenberg no she is'nt ?
+Peter Von Crastenberg Yes 💁🏽
+ThePenguinPub fair enough....we cant all have the same tastes
+Roger cammack i agree its the hair

During 20-some years as a journalist I never gave people softball questions. The people I interviewed knew I was doing my job. If someone refused to talk to a specific reporter they were met with deafening silence from everybody, and that is worse than suicide for a politician.
An honest journalist, what a rare breed.
Ana, you are completely on point...TYT is lucky to have your inteligence, your comprehensive analytical opinion, and your integrity. Ignore all the Negative Nancy's here who are just trolls with nothing better to do apparently-as they are the real Nobody's here. Thank you for the Independent work you do and all your collegues.
kinda like going to court in a small town and suddenly realizing your lawyer and the judge play golf together...
Didn't journalists used to get pay bonuses for asking extra tough questions?
Probably back before the likes of Murdoch & Aisles (sounds like the title to a really shit cop show, which it would be with those two in it)
+Ste H back in the day when America was more conservative and values were stronger. Liberalism ruined it
In the UK we have a couple of journalists that are so well known for their "hardball" questions that the politicians basically have to go on their show in order to demonstrate their ability and get support from voters. Jeremy Paxman was one. It is a shame this isn't the same case in the US.

+David 0/1 Don't kid yourself. RT is just as much politically motivated propaganda as any other "news" source.

I'm guessing he is now unemployed.
+Ray Finkle Word
Tony spilled the beans on the media.
Shocker!
come on cenk give them a raise already
Yeah tyt, even Kanye asks peeps to give him money, but at least you guys and gals would deserve some. Sorry, been a while since I had a dig at Kanye, I was developing a twitch.

Give Anna a raise Cenk. 2.8 mil viewers!!!
Nothing "accidental" or "inadvertent" about what he said. He said it exactly correctly because that's precisely what he was trying to communicate. Sigh
Ana, stop objectifying men.
Hah
hahaha
Ana is such a lying narcissistic snob. If she had any opportunity to earn a real salary in media she'd have taken it.
+I'M TYRONE thanks Tyrone

+dAbaPEsTA123 I don't understand your point. What does China have to do with anything?
Patrick Holt You referenced the Roman Empire, I took a comparison with modern China. What's so hard to grasp?
dAbaPEsTA123 So you were being wilfully irrelevant for no reason. Fine.
Even Robots are not perfect as seen in this vid..
the "and" did nicely, no?
TYT is just the best. Keep doing what you're doing. You are more than needed!
we love you too Ana
THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE!!
The last person that should talk about this is John..
We all remember your interview with Wasserman-shill. You did exactly everything what you guys are critisising those other reports of.
Always Accountable.
OH NO! Media CORRUPT? Never knew THAT!

Hey Ana,
Your hair looks great the way you did it in this video :D
I don't think Walter Cronkite ever worried about upsetting a politician. And that's why the American public respected him.
And why can't powerful people accept criticism?
Someone tweet this to Clinton. It would be awesome is she actually replies and does an interview.
Ana, you're the best. Period.
Ana is beautiful in this video!
+EsotericOccultist STFU
+EsotericOccultist that is pure jealousy
Ana trying to get a raise on a live webcast.

Im from Milwaukee, and yes, Charlie Sykes is NUTZ!

DAMN RIGHT
Ana Kasparian You know that if you worked for a major media network (such as MSNBC, ABC, CNN, FOX, etc.) you wouldn't have the freedom to say that a candidate refuses to be interviewed by you because he or she is afraid of the tough questions. Great job Charlie Sykes.
Journalistic integrity exist only on the internet, SOMETIMES!
cenk totally soft-balled bernie sanders interview
+Walter White He gets hit enough by the rest of the media. What Cenk focused on was on making him distance himself from Hillary.
The fourth Estate is literally dead.
How many hardball questions did TYT ask Bernie? none. they didn't ask about his gun policy or his voting record vrs what he has said in the past.
+Matt West That's because they believe he will not be the nominee.
This is such a big deal. No one is covering this.
What is the point of a free press in a democracy?????????
Gotta love Ana Kasparian.
Yeah!! What you said!! I wish I had a back button for typed words in this comment box. I just typed a great response, I thought and it magically disappeared before I could press "post". Sound familiar? Bring back the "Fairness Act", that's what went wrong to the Media.

Keeping it real. Mainstream is all about the money.
That guy thought said "blistering," not that they can't ask tough questions.
What that reporter basically said was - "We have to be nice to Trump because we want to be able to keep going back to him. But we can be quite frank about our disregard for giving our viewers real news, because, what, they're not gonna come back to us??"

Mainstream corporate News. News for and by robots.
*That's mainstream journalism today.*
_Chicken-sh!t cronies._
Thankfully we have the net!

Stephen Kuehn I am not worried about Drumpf, but Shillary's and Craz's backers are bad/organised enough to try something.

One bedroom apartment sounds amazing. Can't wait for that. Beauty in simplicity.
Didn't seem accidental?
TYT without Cenk on screen is watchable.
You misspelled unwatchable
I miss cenk
Nope
MRostendway
If I'd wanted to write unwatchable I wouldn't have misspelt the word.
MRostendway
I regularly skip uploads with Cenk in them, I nearly always skip those that are just Cenk & Ana together. It's just my personal opinion.
Why MSNBC, are you calling yourself news ? I would say call yourself BF :( That is not journalism !

*_Anna get back to the kitchen!_*
plz john did the same thing with debbie wasserman so don't act so high and mighty
why ana why
Wow. Wow
The truth is entertaining
That's how the media is supposed to deliver news! Keep it honest! Not a bunch of loaded carp!
Anna Accidentally Reveals What's Wrong With Her Paycheck.
JK, big respect.
yup
Ana, when you get lifted up along with the Young Turks (which only grows in popularity) and eventually become rich and influential, that kind of attitude will make sure that no one at the network forgets there roots! Save our Media Ana!

hey john, remember the interview you did with wasserman-shultz? how super dissappointing was that?
Unfortunately that wasnt a TyT exclusive interview, it was co sponsored with UA-cam
Either way, that was some serious bootlickin'
Not really a secret to anyone with logic.
Y'all should get Hillary on to interview. Start a petition.
Tony is just thinking. Shit, I lost my job.
This should have been a Plug/recognition for that reporter video. He is basically reporting to the standard we are demanding.
Damn, Cenk, would you please give Ana a raise?! Don't worry about John though...just kidding, John. I love all our hosts!
Sharky Your grammar is as horrible as your inaccurate criticism.
Jonathan Seale do you watch this show? how many times ana couldnt say word? or didnt even knew what it meant? Im not making stuff up. watch the show then lets talk.
+Jonathan Seale Sometimes you have to do a show and tell, watch this.
+Sharky Do you watch this show? How many times is Ana unable to say certain words? Or didn't know the correct meaning of a word? I'm not making this stuff up (English be damned). Watch the show and then lets talk.
+Sharky Stop throwing rocks in a glass house.
Only problem is, some people actually don't see anything wrong with the media not asking real questions. They're just to oblivious, ignorant, and/or plain dumb.
Does TYT team have a running question sheet for each candidate? I love to think so. Thankyou for all your hard work.
AAAaaaaaaaand someone got fired.
you'll never work in this town again honest Tony!
TYT you did the same thing with Sanders in your interview.
+Babylonian What question would you have asked sanders?
+Meow Meow All the questions are pretty objective and neutral, asking Bernie what policy he will want from hilary if he loose, would he have hilary as part of his cabinet, questions regarding his policies, which hostile question that is policy related would you have asked? What question that is policy based would you have asked him? (pressed wrong button, I am asking the original commentor)
+Meow Meow I think they want him to be attack by connecting him to Castro, or Putin. just like the rest of the debates and townhalls.
Bernie only gets tough questions from mainstream. What tough questions should Cenk have asked that Bernie doesn't get asked all the time?
Michael 마익흘 Aronson I noticed most of the people making this dumb point, they themselves don't really know what he should be asked.
Is this really a surprise?
Johns heart broke a little at the start. He needs some help #GetJohnOutTheFriendZone people!
