Really old video lol, but the best thing about Hawx is that you are playing as the Ghost recon squads direct action fighter wing. Playing GRAW 2 and listening to Scott Mitchell talk with the HAWX leader after playing HAWX is awesome.
@@grabaloadadeez5154 yeah that was an awesome part. I loved the GRAW1 on OG Xbox, the 360 remake of GRAW1 isn't the same. I loved the first Hawx but not checking out the 2nd
bro that's exactly what I was thinking everything he wants is in ace combat I was going crazy when he didn't mention it when he was talking about what he played before but what he was asking for is all in and combat so I then realized he must of never played it
If you want my perspective, Ace Combat is superior in almost every way to HAWX. The soundtrack to HAWX is very forgettable for me, with the exception of "Ready Aurora". Meanwhile, Ace Combat has plenty of memorable tracks. The story of the HAWX games are also forgettable. Ace Combat stories are not afraid to get imaginative, creating a fictional world, over-the-top super weapons, and characters with personality. HAWX is set in the real world with more realistic stories, but they do not leave as big of an impact as Ace Combat does. While HAWX has more planes than Ace Combat, all of the HAWX planes fly almost the same way. Ace Combat planes actually fly differently, which gives us incentive to try out all of the planes. The plane models of Ace Combat are also far more realistic and detailed than in HAWX. HAWX has a gimmick called ESM, which creates a path for intercepting a certain target or evading a missile. It is basically an auto-solution which is not always the fastest or easiest, but thankfully it is only forced on you once or twice. This makes ESM better than Ace Combat Assault Horizon's DFM and ASM (which basically do all of the maneuvering for you and are forced on you constantly). The other Ace Combat games do not have similar mechanics, but you really do not need ESM to dogfight effectively. HAWX has another gimmick called Assistance OFF mode, which turns off your plane's limiters and lets you do high G turns. The problem is that it takes away most of the HUD you need to navigate and zooms the camera too far out. It can be very disorienting and the controls are difficult to learn. Ace Combat lets you do high G maneuvers at any time without any HUD or camera changes. That being said, if you learn OFF Mode, it can be an interesting change of pace. The overall gameplay of Ace Combat and HAWX is otherwise the same, and it is still so satisfying blowing up enemy armies in both games. As for why HAWX 2 is worse than HAWX 1: HAWX 1 had a coherent, if unmemorable story about a U.S. vs PMC war. HAWX 2 is a generic U.S. vs Russia story, and the writing is nonsensical and confusing, as if the story was made from a bunch of different, incomplete stories meshed together. HAWX 2 does not even let you choose your own planes on the first play through. Part of the fun of HAWX and Ace Combat was being able to choose your own plane, which affects the play style. HAWX 2, along with Assault Horizon, throws very different gameplay mechanics like forcing you to pilot an AC-130 and a drone, and none of the "non-fighter-jet" missions are well executed. At least HAWX 1 and Ace Combat (minus AH) had you fly a fighter jet all the time, so gameplay was consistent. HAWX 2's final mission is basically ripping off parts that people liked about Ace Combat, like the super weapons, tunnel runs, ace duel, and fate of the world stakes, cramming them all into a very long and tedious mission, without understanding what made them fun. In short, if you had to choose between Ace Combat and HAWX, get Ace Combat. If you are interested in something different from Ace Combat, get HAWX 1 and not HAWX 2. I know I have been negative on the HAWX games, but if you want a change of pace, HAWX 1 is worth your time. If you do decide on Ace Combat, I would recommend the PS2 trilogy: Ace Combat 04, Ace Combat 5, and Ace Combat Zero. These three games are considered to be the best in the series. You don't need to play Ace Combats 1-3, since Ace Combat stories are mostly independent of each other, and these three games have the least impact in the overall lore. After the PS2 trilogy, if you have a PSP, try out Ace Combat X and Ace Combat X2. If you have an Xbox 360, see if you can get Ace Combat 6. If you have a PS4 or Xbox One, Ace Combat 7 is the most recent entry and it is also worth your time. If you are interested in Assault Horizon, watch some videos of it and see if the new mechanics interest you.
Nice use of the Hot Shot clips man, very entertaining. You mentioned X wing vs Tie Fighter, but what about Rogue Leader? Awesome combat flight sim game and one of the best SW games ever made.
I'd hate to disappoint you, Joe, but the future of dogfighting isn't the "Up close and personal" types of fights, but rather using advanced missiles tens, maybe hundreds of miles away. I do like the dogfights that you are up close, using guns on planes, but that era is pretty much over, just like the ever-so-epic "Battleship Vs. Battleship" style of WW2, which I cannot get enough of.
Hawx 1 is the better game overall but Hawx 2 lets you hand pick your loadouts which can turn an A-10 into a long range anti-air platform. That is in Hawx 2 you can get more than 1500 meters from a pack of hostile planes.
It's a little old now but Ace Combat 6 has got to be my favorite flight simulator. It, to me, is actually like flying a plane and it's up to you to dodge the missiles. no flares or chaffs to help you. The whole flying in circles bit is fixed by learning actual moves that pilots use. yo start flying in circles you're going to die.
While I liked HAWX 1 over HAWX 2, I thought it was a good game...admittedly, the sense of speed was lacking (would have preferred an 'Afterburners' boost over the OFF flight mode in most cases), but I liked the variety of missions, the UAV ones included, mostly because it fit with the story (as a typically derivative Clancy-esque plot it was). As of the circular nature of Dogfighting-well, after-action reports from real pilots suggest that *THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE* in reality, so why change that?
Try blazing angels. It is set in WWII and features 4 main characters in your squadron. It as bombing missions, dogfight missions, missions where you have to be careful and not crash into the narrow path between 2 glaciers. And towards the end you get to be the gunner in a flying fortress, 3 guns to operate, each defending different parts of the plane, and every few minutes you drop some bombs on german factories. It's for the wii.
Just pick up Ace Combat 6 on 360. One of my favourate 360 exclusives that I've played. It's probably really cheap now too. For space combat, another good 360 exclusive is Project Sylpheed.
They were the first game to use the gunship and have great mechanics to it. That's why. By the way, he didn't compare anything about them. He simple said HAWX 2's AC-130 rescue mission is better than Modern Warfare's AC-130 rescue mission.
You could use the AC-130 in desert combat mod for BF1942, too. That was the first time I remember seeing it inside a game, but there might be other games/mods out there that used it.
The thing about Tom Clancy games is that all their stories tie in with each other. This makes a lot of the stories dull if you're trying to focus on one of the games. Example: GRAW 2 story about insurgency in Mexico was expanded in HAWX 1's story about the worlds reliability on Private Military Contractors. These two games have missions that directly come in contact with each other; as well as missions in Splinter Cell and End War.
I like how he recommends it to hardcore fans when no hardcore flight simmer would ever get within a million miles of hawx, the epitome of casual flying
If you love flight combat games Joe, I strongly suggest going back and playing the older Ace Combat games. Especially 5 and ZERO. I heard you mention in your ASSAULT HORIZON review that you hadn't played the older titles. Your missing out.
Yeah. How did you enjoy it? The only complaint I have though is that I didn't really get all that much enjoyment out of doing a second play through, if I had done like a third, doubtful I would have liked it as much as the first time. Great game though.
Well, that's the point I think. AC gunship levels in any game should be identical, because what else is there to do besides gunning enemies flat with the 105, 40, or 25 mm guns, or flying the damn thing.
the sad thing is, he made the point of Electronic warfare, which was in the first game. A couple levels would force you to use cannons only to win, but enough people complained that it was "Too hard" and it got scrapped in this one
The game is just really popular. It's a game that people have very polarized opinions about, so referencing it is a great way to convey a particular message.
I tried to search for it in torrent and crack site, but they( the member of those site) said it's impossible to crack because if it's possible, then some group, like RELOADED or SKIDROW should releash it for a long time ago. This game was releashed since two year ago, you know.

Battlefield 3 revolutionized a lot of Jet flying. Idk, just my opinion. In BF's own way, flying jets and helis are very tuned and FUN. It's challenging because flying is maneuverability is super sensitive, adding a layer of balance to MP. Good review. I just remembered this comment because I remembered you didn't mention too much on Jet flying besides it being "dog fights in the sky". Which, granted, this does give a lot of truth, but your BF3 vid might be the game we're both thinking of..
One problem. The Ace Combat games doesn't support the fabled flight stick (Joystick) which in my mind is essential to a flight combat game (yes I know AC6 had the Ace Edge flight stick but that was hampered by that "xbox 360 exclusivity" bullshit).
I've played a lot of flight sims, old and new. The last really good one I played was Ace combat 4, and that was for the story. It made you FEAR your enemy, and it did such a beautiful job.
