In the 70's Sigma created a serie of lenses with built in filters, the filtermatic lenses, I have one 24mm and it's great as no need to carry your filters with you, ability to change between 2 shots, and ideal for special lens designs such as (ultra)wide angle. I don't understand why this concept was abandonned.

    Very tempting.

Two most important features of this lens are:
    1) It is designed for APS-C sensor and therefore has 130 deg. angle on M43 which may or may not be suitable for some aplications (for me it is suitable to shoot choirs as I want to capture them from close distance because of audio but not too close so that conductor will not fill whole frame)
    2) It is Samyang's clone so it has stereographic projection that neither stretch (like rectilinear lenses) nor squeeze (like equidistant or even more so regular equisolid angle fisheye lens) objects near edges and it does not bend straight lines as much. Again it is very important when shooting groups of people where both such distortions looks appalling unlike when you shoot landscapes or architecture where it doesn't bother that much.

Great points. Thought it was a Samyang rebrand.

I have the Panny fisheye adapter with the 14mm 2.5. Only a few test shots but looks nice and sharp. I’m sure Olympus does an adapter for their lenses too.

Yes, they have been discontinued now. These adapters were made at the time with no proper fisheyes lenses for MFT. But the Panasonic eventually released their fisheye, these adapters was selling less and less. I don't think Olympus ever had one for normal lenses.

About the full circular fisheye lenses available for MFT cameras topic, now there is one more option besides those mentioned in the video: the recently released Meike 3.5mm f/2.8 Circular Fisheye.
It's designed specifically for Micro Four Thirds cameras, and with a 220° field of view it's wider, cheaper and easier to handle, yet maybe just a little bit less sharp, than the superb Laowa 4mm. Had mine in pre-order few months ago for 135 euros (123 pounds more or less) and I can't stop experimenting with it since then. Definitely a lens worth checking out!

That sounds pretty cool for 135 Euro! I will check it out, cheers.

Yeah, I think you'll love it! To be fair, mine was an early bird price. Now the international price indicated on Meike's website is about 159.99 dollars. It's a little more than what I paid, but still super affordable!

What about if compete with 7artisan 7.5mm f2.8?

I‘ll keep my Samyang 7.5mm, which is tiny, light and very sharp. More expensive than the Pergear, but still affordable.

I would love to see how sharp it is at f4. Closer to the f2.8 result or f5.6 result? Or halfway between?

STC do clip filters that go between the lens and the sensor. Bit of a pain to change though.

What about the Olympus 9mm f8.0 Fish-eye...... I think as bad and as good as that Pergear, but lighter and cheaper... I got the Oly 9mm a few weeks on Amazon for only 59€!!!! 😉

Yes, the Oly plastic toy lens is pretty fun. But Pergear is a proper lens with variable apertures and glass and metal construction and for not much more, ok, double the Oly toy lens, but still a bargain for those who just want to play with fisheye. Oly's lens is indeed, one I forgot to mention too :)

Keep in mind the Pergear is three stops faster - important in astrophotography.

Is this a 7Artisans rebrand? But I heard the 7artisans should have better sharpness in the corners

How does this lens compare to the 7artisans fish eye? That seems to have 11 elements and better corner sharpness

How would this lens be for indoor real estate photography?

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  4 роки тому +2

No this is not a lens for real estate, there's too much distortion. You need an rectilinear ultra wide such as Laowa 7.5mm, 9mm or Olympus' 7-14mm 2.8 Pro
