    Hey guys, it’s refreshing to see young folks that take the extra time to reuse instead of throw away. It’s Not cheap Jacob it’s being financially responsible. You’re setting a great example for your children and hopefully those watching your channel. I’m impressed by the thoughtful planning into building your homestead. That takes extreme patience. Well done guys very impressive. I look forward to each video to see what’s next. Great work.

    You need to change the title this is not a chicken coop. This is a chicken Palace, five star resort for chickens.😂 This is built stronger than then some houses, so you just keep on overbuilding. There is nothing wrong with being frugal a penny saved is a penny gained. I can’t wait to see the house it is going to be epic. Blessings to your family.🥰

    I'd consider a low wattage solar light inside. Chickens oftentimes like to go to light at roosting time and some are too dumb to remember where their house is. When this happens you'll find them roosting in the yard under a security light. Or sometimes, just a lot of feathers in the yard under the security light. Also, try to keep their alcohol intake to a minimum. Otherwise the damn things want to stay up all night playing cards and raising hell.

    So I live in Anchorage Alaska where it gets really cold. Made really cool watering system with pex and circulating warm water. Think gfi tripped and it froze. Then we found these "The Farm Innovator Heated Poultry Drinker keeps water from freezing". Manual watering in winter but will not freeze. Just added floats and connected to 50 gallon barrel. Should not have problems during summer and then do it manually during winter. Beware of frozen eggs, fixed that with 6ft pipe heat tape.

    that chicken coop flooring is vinyl and very susceptible to being torn by chicken claws. Linoleum is a much harder surface area and found in tiles or it can be found in sheets at Home depot. We built our own counters for our restaurant with sheet linoleum they are backed with a thin layer of wood. SO, if you end up needing to re-do this project, the material I'm trying to explain would be a more durable surface. . . Love your channel, and I'm 14 yrs behind you (we've had our off-grid property for 14 yrs, my husband is not very motivated to get the projects completed..... needless to say, I wish I could get him to watch your channel to inspire him!!! We do live on our place full time, but life is very rugged!!

      I just had a talk with the kids yesterday about how we're the first people to develop this very spot of land. It was nice to see their eyes open wider as they thought about that. The hope is that they eventually will understand that they are the stewards of the land here and can reflect and rely on their experiences throughout life. Thanks 🙂

    Fabulous. Well done. I wonder sometimes using materials for livestock. for the flooring. What if I just bought a bucket of glue took some sifted rocks from the rock crusher and mixed a bunch of tiny pebbles into the cheap concrete glue. Then just troweled the floor in. Very much enjoy your family's work. Thank you for sharing. For it gives me all sorts of oddities clattering around in my head. I might even do that for the roofing to protect the chip board.👍😁
    PostScript; I agree with Jacob when he said it might be best to do a test patch first.

      @@aboulderlifeoffgrid Us old timers (older than you) grew up with linoleum and there wasn't vinyl flooring. When vinyl flooring was introduced people continued to call it linoleum. out of habit. Generally, actual linoleum isn't found or used for most projects due to cost. Linoleum has a "bacteria free" zone on it's surface so it is highly sought out for places like operating rooms.

    I am not always a fan of burnt finished wood on the homestead. With burnt wood you not only run the risk of loss at construction but you will continue to live with the concern that burnt wood re-ignites faster and easier than most all other finishes for the life of the project. Just food for thought.
    You two are always a lesson in, "git er' done," and a guaranteed smile or three in every video. Many thanx, to all of you.

    • @aboulderlifeoffgrid
      @aboulderlifeoffgrid  Місяць тому

      I'm not sure where you heard that from. But, in order for the charred wood siding to re-ignite, it requires much higher temperatures and much longer contact with a flame source. Appreciate ya! Thanks 🙂
