One of the best auto tutorials i have seen. I love how you showed the real world problems, rounded bolts, the rotor covering the adjustment hole! I wish more were like this! Fantastic job!
****These 1A auto mechanics are One of the bests tutorials here in UA-cam. No edits and will ‘actually’ show how to solve issues. None of those yap yap yap yap yap. They Just do the work with high-quality, correctly so the vehicles will perform safely on the roads. Thank you guys.****
This is a terrific video. Comprehensive with tips and even torque values. Left nothing to my having to guess. Really shows your experience and expertise. Did job both left and right rear in one late afternoon, saving me hundreds of dollars.

Finally, someone explains the adjuster! Very difficult to remove the rotor on the e-brake 🤦♂️. Thank you for explaining that problem! 😉
Excellent, not just the contents but the video is very clear , not jumping around that gets me dizzy.
Thank you for the help; using less words while being eloquent and elaborative!
Thanks for checking us out. 1aauto.com +Lute Obaidi
You don't really need to do all this, but it's a good video if you really wanna deep clean, especially if someone used too much greese before haha. I just did this, all I did was take the caliper off, take the brakes off and put the new brakes on. Very easy and simple job.
One of the best videos!!! Shows all the hardship that actually happens. One thing would be good to mention is to make sure the park brake is not engaged. Lot of rust...must be a eastern or northern car :-) Need to use Silicon grease on those slide pin, as other greases/mineral will desolve the rubber....So I have read. One more note...The opening for that gear wheel adjust is the indent curved section, not the large round holes. That way the screw driver can get on the gear easy and turn it in both directions. I noticed you used the large hole. Easier with rotor off, but with rotor, you want the indent to be lined up with the wheel. For that much rust and age, you should check for any water in the brake fluid, as you may need to bleed it out and replace.
Sorry, but this is not correct. I tried to use the indented curved section for the adjustment hole but the hole faces a solid surface. The 1AAuto video is right. He even shows that not all the big holes are correct, only certain ones. I know because I did this job just an hour ago.
Very helpful. Would have been clueless on why my rear rotor would not come out. Would have never guessed the parking brake thing and the little adjuster through the little hole. Saved me a ton of guessing and frustration.

Great vid... thanks for explaining how the rear rotor can hang up due to a rust ridge inside the rotor catching on the parking brake shoes. I never understood what was going on there in the other vids I've seen.
Excellent instructional video, as usual. These videos are why i try to get all my parts from 1A Auto. Thanx!
Thanks for showing a job where there was actual struggle too many channels are just like oh hey were going to go ahead and remove this 20mm rusted rounded bolt with no problem real quick

Great video. Comforting to see someone else have trouble as I always do.😆 My brake kit arrived from 1AAuto just as they said it would, took about 4 days from ordering online. I’m very pleased with the quality and the savings. OReilly wanted more than double than what I paid. Thanks
+Vernosifuel Thank you for your order! If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
Awesome instructional video, thanks so much...had to watch a couple times at spots for bolt size M8 X 1.25 and torque settings...
You folks do an amazing job with the videos. Thank you for the help. I will try to buy more of my parts from you.
Awesome video. Only thing I would add, would be to check the function of the parking brake and cycle it until it holds firm.

Do you have a video on adjusting the parking brake on a 2005 highander? The parking brake is not completely holding on a hill while in N and brake pedal off but I'm not sure if this is an adjustment on the actual rear brakes, a turnbuckle on cable under the car, or adjusting nut on the actual parking brake pedal/cable.
Great Video and amazing Tutorials. Just Excellent.
Am planning to do this job on a family member's Highlander and tried to get some M8x1.25 bolts in case I needed them...
unfortunately the long ones are a little hard to come by! 45 mm. was the longest I could get.
Caliper slide pins....they aren't the same. The one you put in the bottom is missing the rubber sleeve that goes on the tip. When you removed the old ones, you didn't show which one came from the top or the bottom. How do you know which guide pin/bolt goes on the top & which goes on the bottom?
The pin with the rubber sleeve goes to the bottom.
+ChuckWood Thanks for the feedback!
Nice thorough job!
This is the one to watch !
Any videos on replacing the e brake cables and or shoes?
shouldn't that adjuster access be positioned over the oval opening so as to access the adjuster easier..?
Thanks for your professional video. I saw you adjust spring before putting back rotor. When we need to turn it upward or turn it downward?
loosen he shows in the video to turn downward
Itsy Bitsy Spider climbs up its thread and passes over the brake assembly at 18:25.
I know it says 04-07 but can this video be applied to an 03 highlander. I dont know if theres a big difference between the two
One should ALWAYS use a "Six-sided" box or socket on the caliper and bracket bolts to avoid rounding the bolts.
NEVER resort to vise-grips!
+RB Thanks for the tip!

What a good channel 🙌👍🏽😎 thank you creator.
Does the process change if my 2006 Toyota highlander is a hybrid? Or is it the same?
Are you supposed to engage the parking brakes before starting this replacement? Thanks so much for the video :)
+Alan Mo No because the emergency brakes will put too much pressure on the rear brake rotor, and you will not be able to get it off. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com
On the rear 04 highlander what brake pad does the warning indicator go on? inside or outside? Does it even matter?
Very good video
Excellent video!
9:15, M8 x 1.25 bolts
Thank you for your video. You covered several things not covered in other videos (i.e. that parking brake adjustment hole not aligning)!
Could you tell me the sbout the gloves you're wearing? Are they nitrile, if not what?
Thanks in advance,
Kevin
+James Smith Thanks for watching! I believe he is wearing black nitrile gloves and can be found in almost any autoparts stores! 1aauto.com
Thanks! I'll be sure to get some for my brake job - the last time it took a while (even using GoJo) to get my hands clean!
Is this different for an AWD model? My rear brake doesn’t spin freely like in the video, and I seem to have an extra driveshaft that isn’t visible in the video
+Jack Sanford The part in this video fits your application, and the install should be the same or similar. Buy this part on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have an AWD model. You need to put the vehicle in neutral. Then the wheels will spin. But first, put blocks in front of and behind a wheel that is on the ground to prevent it from rolling should it fall off the jack.
If the emergency (handbrake) cables are not seized then removing the rotor is easy, if they are, then good luck!
How do you fix gas gauge cluster on a 1998 chevy truck, sending unit was replaced all wiring and tank still doesn't work Please help.
+joseph baron You may also want to check the fuses to see if any of them need to be replaced. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
great video....

Great video and explanation. I trick i learned for wheels rusted to the hub is loosen the lug nuts just slightly and drive the car for a block or so. The road vibration will knock them loose. Upstate ny vehicles have this problem due to the salt in the winter.
Where can I get the M8 by 1.25 screws?

I dug cars built in the 40's out of the ground that where not nearly rusted and corroded that bad. That car musta been sunk in the Atlantic.
beautifullll....
Missed the rubber bushing on the lower slide pin...Fail...
18:30 theres a spider climbing up the wheel !!!
+Vishnu Rama Reddy Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com
Yeah just like messenger getting those bolts loose about 5 minutes ago to
Easy DIY.
more easy if you hit the tire behind
Someone supposed to be a little more environmentally friendly when you're cleaning those parts with break apart to clean up almost instantly if use Dawn dish soap on the same stuff they use the rescue animals with lot less impact on the environment in your sprays and everything else so problem with the 100% Dawn
Great, how too
wow, corrosion much?
Disappointed in you guys. You should never reuse the brake hardware. What are you saving? A dollar??
+Mark Rup The parts that we did reuse were in good condition. We agree that safety should never be compromised
