They have a pretty nice logo so don't know why they go with ixdao. I imagine it's fine if you don't speak English but it rules out a massive share of the market.
@@raphaelcavina6138 It was a Calitrava ref 96. If you look at that watch, the KN Murakumo and this watch, tell me which two watches have for instance the same dial markings, hand design, numerals and brand name font. The Calitrava was certainly an influence but not a direct copy as in this case (except for the watch face which looks less elegant than the original). The original is a VERY expensive and limited watch so I can understand people not buying it but it's fair to acknowledge the true nature of the IXDAO.
@@raphaelcavina6138 Apparently my response to yours and the other post in this chain are no longer visible. Strange ! I was basically saying that the Calitrava was definiely an influence but not a downright copy like this one.
It’s beautiful, and I genuinely like it but I really don’t need / want a dress watch, and I think you’re right. It’s a bit of stretch for the price. Again, still very nice. Thanks Gary!
Thank you. You are the only one who agrees with me, apparently, that drilled lugs don't belong on anything other than tool watches. And I don't even want them there. I cannot for the life of me figure out why you would want them. I've never had a problem taking a bracelet off without them. But maybe that's just me. Cheers!
Ppl really need to make this, as well as the Thorn omega vintage homage..w automatic movements. Would love a review of a Farasute,or the smaller Lobinni models.
4 out of 5 girls picked my Casiotron trn50 over my Tudor Black bay 36 blue dial watch when asked, 'Which one do you prefer?'. Their answers surprised me.
There's a popular, fairly recent, YT video about exactly this, "not watch people" picking which watches they like, which they think is the most expensive, etc. It highlighted how 99.999% of people are "watch ignorant". It's important to remember how we are buying watches for ourselves, not "the collecting community" or anyone else!
@@edwardsjohnpaul Great point. Show someone a gold day date and they will compliment the leather strap. If you remember where this video is, id love to watch it.
That is a great looking watch ,would lose the strap though for something a little more subtle.not got a problem with the quartz movement it is after all still a affordable watch
Some nice artwork on the caseback is what they do recently. The watch offers some attention to detail, but you're right, the wide strap overpowers the strap.
Seconds seem to hit marks. As for quartz on a dress watch, I'm ok with that, a dress watch for me would get only limited use. Pick it up, put it on and go out.
My TAGs are both quartz... 1993 and 2010. My only concern with quartz is retaining the water resistence with frequent battery changes but I don't go in water in them so haven't paid TAG a large percentage of the purchase price to service them.
There's a lot to like about this watch, and certainly a few issues to point out. To me, though, as much as I really appreciate dial textures, this just has too much going on at one time for my taste. I'd also prefer a slightly smaller case and lug width. Thanks for the review!
At this price point, it ought to be a high accuracy quartz hitting 10 seconds a year or better. But no, it's a Seiko VD78 with 15 seconds per month accuracy.
The IXDAO 5303 homage Watchdives sent me had a case so poorly made it was dangerous, the PT2000 movement stopped working in less than 15 wearings, and the marker at 3 fell off. High quality? Hah!
All straps and bracelets should currently be made with quick release. There is no reason to have drilled lugs anymore that I know of. Some of the brand names, like this one, are important to the brand itself but really shouldn't be on watch faces imo.
Got this one during a sale for 225 USD. Indeed the perceived quality is awesome. Even the strap (usually you can throw the chinese leather straps away...). The VD78 is fine, I would have liked they use a metal movement ring : the plastic looks cheap compared to the rest. Of course, it's inside, however, the quality of a watch is also inside. The caseback is awesome and I give a special mention to the packaging, which show it's not a basic Aliexpress watch. They have now a purple version, but not with this guilloché. Also really nice.
I like vintage style and if you want small seconds at that price it is quartz or st17, so I don't mind quartz, but San Martin use the Ronda 6004 which has jewels and end of life battery indicator. I think the hour had looks wrong and as you said the strap is way too wide. Thanks for reviewing 👍
nice watch, not my style. I like the small seconds quartz. I agree a 20mm strap would look better. the text doesn't look great, they should use with the symbol logo on the box, its a vary nice logo.
I've seen it and liked it... until I saw the width of the lugs, the general picture with the strap on... Looks out of proportion to my eyes. Too bad, but I don't wear dress watches often (which is why quartz is actually a good choice for that type of watches, that and the thinness).
Fantastic looking watch. But, it's a hard no on the movement. Not that it's a bad movement, just that it's quartz. The looks of this watch is screaming for a sweeping seconds hand.
Now a days, dials like this are the norm. Every other watch review that you do has a killer dial. I think we are getting spoiled by all the nice designs. Too bad they can't design a name. The IXDAO WATCH & CO. name makes no sense. Is it a watch brand & a separate company, and what does IXDAO mean? 🤔
To expensive for quartz. Faux or not faux croc leather, you can get in trouble with customs when importing. And 22mm lug width? It could do 20, even 18mm. The IXDAO still uses plastic movement rings, quartz or not for the price could make one out of brass. I'll pass this one for sure. ST17 manual version or 82S5 would be mine choice for this watch.
Hey Gary, such a well produced watch video, aces to you my friend!!! I'm with you as far as it IS a very nice timepiece... but the quartz movement seems "out of place" for the balance of the rest of this timepiece. Especially at the price point they are offering it for. That being said, I can only speculate what the price would be if it had an automatic/mechanical movement...like I said if I, personally, saw this with the quartz movement at it's current price I would have to pass on it. Which, to me, is really unfortunate as I truly LOVE the "oil pressed" dial, the blue (or blued??) hands, numerals, & markers!!! Besides my critique of the quartz movement, the extended brand name on the dial seems excessive. I really don't understand why they didn't just put IXDAO on the dial!!??!! Thanks Gary for another superb timepiece video!!!
It is nice, but gosh, does it have to be called "IXDAO"?
OK, as far as I can tell it's said '9 dao' and meaning 9 ways. At least that's the best explanation I've heard.
They have a pretty nice logo so don't know why they go with ixdao. I imagine it's fine if you don't speak English but it rules out a massive share of the market.
On their IG profile, they have a version of this watch with just the logo. Makes it more appealing than having that name on the dial
Honestly "9 ways" is not a bad name!
9 ways is better than lxdao which could only appeal to the Chinese market.
Would consider 1 without that awful name on the dial
They went with a 22mm strap because that's the width the original watch they copied uses (the Kikuchi Nakagawa Murakumo)
And Kikuchi copied a 40’ Patek .
So it’s a copy of a copy 😂
I got the plain white one and love it.

Impressed that they used dots at 5 and 7 rather than copying the expensive Swiss giants and butchering the numerals to fit the subdial.

Stunning dress watch. Agree the lug width is too wide. It’s only that price tag that’s stopping me.
The 22 mm lug width is perfectly copying the OG and makes all the character of this model.
