I've been on the lookout at the Empire State Building but not sure if I could do the arch. Looks a little too scary, I have a little fear of heights. Great vlog.
The public was never required to climb the steps to get to the top of the Arch. By the way, if my memory serves me correctly, there are 1076 steps to the upper observation platform of the Arch. I worked on the project when it was under construction. It took some planning to get our tools and our lunch to the top every day. At the very top of the structure there is a hatch to the outside. A few guys would eat their lunch out there. Been there during a heavy thunderstorm. That was a little scary. The structure actually sways a little in high winds. The interior of the legs experiences high humidity and the stair structure was always sweating as a result. In the morning we climbed the stairs but when going home we could slide down using just the handrails. There are a bunch of switchback platforms which made it easy to slide on the handrails. Fun job back then.
Thanks for pointing that out about the steps. I was there in the '70's and '90's, and always thought the stairs were only for maintenance workers. Can you imagine how many people would make it up there if they had to climb? I work out, but 1,076 steps is a lot of effort!
I love when he says completely wrong things. I can never tell if it’s a joke. I’ve been on a non stop binge on all Adams videos since coming across them in my recommend. Love all of them
Mom and dad bought a "Filter Queen vacuum cleaner from a travelling sales man in the late 1960's. When we kids had colds, or our allergies kicked up, mom would use the Filter Queen as a "humidifier." The vacuum also served as a humidifier. Put in some Vic's Vapo Rub in the fit container, set the vacuum in the center of the bedroom, the scent filled the room. The Filter Queen looked like a dwarf R2-D2!
Jacob's wearing my new shirt!! Today was the first day I wore my new Woo swag... I checked into my hotel in Bristol, Tennessee and wouldn't ya know the lady at the front desk recognized it, and we chatted about Adam and Jacob for a few minutes. Good times!
My uncle used to live in the St. Louis area. He took my Dad, Mom, brother and me up in the Arch. My mom hated getting in that pod car. She said it was like getting into the tomb of doom. We had a great time. We then went to the Cardinals:/ SF Giants game at old Busch Stadium. We missed the Dodgers being in town the day before. We also went to Jesse James’ Hideout at Merrimac Caverns off old 66....I-44. Great trip that everyone should do in their life.
2:35, bluish green egg shaped one lower right, half visible and the one standing on end at the botton just left of center with white T shaped handle are the exact same models my mom had when I was a little kid. I played with them as if they were Tonka truck!
It must have been in 1968, when I rode to the top. I had just turned 13 during a long cross-country road trip with relatives. I remember looking down from the tiny window & seeing the shadow of the top moving across the ground. At the time, there was also the largest steamboat river boat moored below. The S.S. Admiral was a HUGE silver thing.....& we took a cruise that seemed to last several hours. The entire bottom deck was full of pinball machines, and there was a dance floor & dining upstairs. I remember we did the 'Hokey Pokey'. LOL.
Wow. What a time travel. I went on a family vacation to St. Louis in 1977, rode that very same pod I bet. I remember the funny feeling of the ride up and down, the view out the windows at the top. A 41 year old memory thanks to you, Adam.
Glad you got to do it Adam. It was closed for renovations last summer when we were visiting the area. We lived there many years ago so I have been up in it but wanted to do it again.
Thank you so much for showing the Gateway Arch! I did this with my parents when I was about 8 (I'm your age.) I totally remember it being something like a closed in ferris wheel car. I was right! Memories!!! :)
Thanks for the tour Adam! My office is right across from the Arch. I look at it through my office window. Sometimes I walk my dog on those Arch grounds. I’ll appreciate it a lot more now having seen it from a visitor’s eyes!
The time I went up in the arch there was a crazy thunder storm and it got stuck by lightning plus you could feel the arch sway in the wind. It was crazy but what an experience. Those elevators are something you can’t describe but everyone whose done it knows exactly what your talking about when it ratchets back n forth to go up. Keep having the fun. Thanks for sharing it.
I have been on route 66 and when we went to bobs gasoline alley he was there and he kindley let us in his private barns. It was the best place ever. Ive been up the gateway arch to and it is bigger in real life than it looks on camera. Best holiday ive ever been on. Thanks for making these videos and bringing back memories.😃
I have driven by those teepees I can't even count how many times and had no idea what was in them. Thanks for spending some time in Missouri! Can't wait for you to come back!
I remember going there as a kid, this year my family and I didn't got a chance to go there again because it's was close but at least we took few pictures of the Arch, maybe one day I will have my own family to visit there.
Holy smokes! And all this time I thought Clark Griswold had no clue what he was talking about when he said there was an elevator that's takes you all the way to the top. Lol Them elevators are neat.
I wish a major network would pick up Adam and Jacob, you have both taken us to so many wonderful places , and remained family friendly. Well, Unfortunately you guys probably have too much class for today's television. We have so much enjoyed traveling with you,God bless.
Day 10 You guys made it to St. louis Mo Good vlog Adam The Arch was quite interesting .I can,t wait to see more on your historic road trip on Rt .66. keep rolling East. safe journey.
The elevator reminded me of Morks Egg! It's been a good 30 yrs since I made the trip up the arch and I remember that ride up was rather slow and a bit stinky from sweaty bodies - LOL. Thanks for the revisit I really enjoyed it.
We went to the top of the St Louis Arch when I was a kid back in the 70's. My dad had such claustrophobia that he wouldn't get in the elevator car to get down. We stayed up there for hours while he gathered the nerves to get back in the elevator.
I actually remember seeing the Gateway Arch when I was 5. I don't think I went up in it, because I don't even know if you could back then, but I remember it, the Mississippi River behind it, and there was a petting zoo. It was also the first time I'd ever flown on an airplane.
"In the Loop"... Hahaha I see what you did there Adam. There's a strip called Delmar Loop, and it was originally a trolley loop and the name stuck after it stopped running. It is probably my favorite place to be when I'm home. Thank you for stopping by the Arch. Now that I go to college in NC; driving back into St. Louis to get to St. Charles, I am greeted by this wonderful structure. Thankful for the reminder.
You were close to us. My wife is afraid of heights. I talked her into going up into the arch with me a few years ago. When we got to the top she crawled from one side to the other. Lots of fun stuff to do in St. Louis, Cardinal and Blues games, Concerts, City Museum, Science Center, Magic House, Six Flags...
That was awesome in the archway... reminds me of when I climbed into the crown of the statue of liberty that was tiny. Don't think it's possible anymore. Hahaha loved the little Wonka tune 🤣
Wow! Brings back memories of my visits to St. Louis, Busch stadium is just around the block from there and it was a short ride to Union Station. I never made it to the top of the Arch though so I really loved this video!
I've been to the Arch but unfortunately didn't have time to make the trip up. Hoping I get to go back some day. I always wondered how it was up there. Thanks for showing us Adam.
Just loved the Aspirateur Museum. Great displays. They don't make 'em like they used to, now they are mostly plastic and die after a year. As a kid my mother had a really old upright Hoover that sounded like it was eating the carpet in use and frightened me so that I wouldn't go in the house.
Woo, Kirby! I sold them, own 1 myself, and continue to celebrate the brand at every opportunity. I stopped working at the dealership only because it got shut down due to tax evasion. A quality machine that will last a lifetime. It really says something about a product that hasn't advertised in a little over a century, yet still sells everyday at premium prices.
As a child growing up in the UK i was fascinated with the USA. I remember making as a small child a clay model of the St Louis Arch at school, I think maybe I had seen it in 'Planes Trains & Automobiles'. In 2016 at age 28 I took the elevator to the top of the arch and fulfilled a childhood goal. I picked up one of those mini arch souvenirs while I was there, I am looking at it now.
This kinda blew my mind Adam, I’ve never been to St Louis so I had no idea you could actually go inside of it much less take an elevator to the top. My whole life I swear I thought Clark was just messing with Rusty. Ka-Booooom!
About to get stupid real here. 6 years ago I became bound to a power chair as I have Muscular Dystrophy. My relationship with my father has been strain in recent years as he is a viet nam veteran and was subjected to agent orange in viet nam in 1969. My sister is developmentally disabled and am physically disabled. My father has always blamed himself and its been difficult for the family. I have watched your videos for a long time now and must say that your adventure on Route 66 has inspired me to do the same thing but with my father as he is now 70 and I am 43. God bless what you do for people, you are an inspiration for many many people, thank you for that. I wish you the best in life and thank you for what you have done for mine.
This trip down Route 66 is so AWESOME. Those roadside museums and exhibits offer such interesting and diverse subject matter. Sad that your journey will be ending soon.😟😧😵😥 You and Jacob have made fantastic tour guides, Adam ....walkavator😁😄😃😉 so Adam the Woo...
The wife and I went to STL a few years ago and didn't have time to go into the Arch. So I'm sure she'll be happy to see your video! Also... GO CARDINALS!!!!!!!! :D

I love Uranus.
I've been on the lookout at the Empire State Building but not sure if I could do the arch. Looks a little too scary, I have a little fear of heights. Great vlog.

Tampa Jay yup
Me and my dad live in St Louis as soon as we saw this video we wanted to see you in person
This video is awesome. I didn't even know you could go in the arch! Holy cow!
Yes you can from a St.Louis native.
@Lil Stankbooty hey plz don't say the pp word it makes me shid my pant.
Awww you said pooting! My grandma used to say that - haven’t heard it in years lol ty :) hahaha
Hee hee, Jacob's face when he joined in singing. He was enjoying it.
That Electrolux vacuum shown just as you said "Electrolux" brought back memories. My mom had one of those back in the 50's.
Thank you for taking us with you and the bagger. Great job. Rock on.

You two may have the only Arch Kareoke! Awesome place to finally do it!
When I was a kid, I thought the Arch elevators were like giant eggs, like the one Mork from Ork came to Earth in.
I went here in 2016 and the guy who owns the museum gave me a carpet sweeper from the 1880s
Awesome vlog! The Arch is so cool and you can see mostly everything from up there! The Wonkavator! LOL 10:17 LOL
Welcome to my hometown St. Louis
Love this vlog❤️❤️❤️
Always wanted to go and check the gateway arch out! Thanks for being me along Adam! Safe travels.
I love when he says completely wrong things. I can never tell if it’s a joke. I’ve been on a non stop binge on all Adams videos since coming across them in my recommend. Love all of them

Thank you Adam, love the Arch a real marvel of science!
I’ve been up there 3 times to date, and got to say it’s incredible.
Those elevator pods are much nicer and faster than the creaky old cage pods that took forever. The view is still well worth it
Jacob's wearing my new shirt!! Today was the first day I wore my new Woo swag... I checked into my hotel in Bristol, Tennessee and wouldn't ya know the lady at the front desk recognized it, and we chatted about Adam and Jacob for a few minutes. Good times!

I love just 15 minutes from the arch. Love St. Louis. Wish I could have met up with you and gone up. Next time.
You two are so funny together i love it when carpetbagger is on board
As someone who was born and raised in st Louis i hope you enjoyed your visit my grandfather actually helped build the arch he was a carpenter
2:35, bluish green egg shaped one lower right, half visible and the one standing on end at the botton just left of center with white T shaped handle are the exact same models my mom had when I was a little kid. I played with them as if they were Tonka truck!

I live in St Louis! Had no idea you were here. Yeah, the Arch is wild, especially those eggs (elevators), as we St Louisians call them. 😉 Cheers! 🍻
Chris Thompson same
I never new it was hollow so that's neat
My dad calls the elavator system itself, the sandwich.
On my bucket list now! Very cool. Continued safe travels. I'm enjoying these videos very much! Thanks

Thanks, Adam. Great video of my hometown. BTW, the stairs in the Arch are there only for emergencies. They were never used by the public.
The Pepsi sign was one of a pair = the other sign would have said "A Pepsi Break Makes Sense"
They have redone the area around and inside the Arch now. They also have an aquarium at Union Station

I’ve been to St Louis an visited the arch twice. One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen! The view from the top is incredible!!
I have driven by those teepees I can't even count how many times and had no idea what was in them. Thanks for spending some time in Missouri! Can't wait for you to come back!
Nathan Matney The owners act like they don’t want anyone to know what’s in them.
I remember going there as a kid, this year my family and I didn't got a chance to go there again because it's was close but at least we took few pictures of the Arch, maybe one day I will have my own family to visit there.
I've always wondered what was up there, too, Thanks for the ride. Got your tee shirt this week. GREAT!

I actually remember seeing the Gateway Arch when I was 5. I don't think I went up in it, because I don't even know if you could back then, but I remember it, the Mississippi River behind it, and there was a petting zoo. It was also the first time I'd ever flown on an airplane.
Watching the pod that you went up in the Arch in the greeting Nanu Nanu came to mind. Looks like something from Mork’s planet, Ork.

Pretty cool ,this place ! If i had enough money i´ll travel to Usa to film that giant rocking chair .I´ve never seen anthing like that ,before .
Thanks for the ride up. I felt anxious and claustrophobic just watching. Now I can say I've seen it.
"In the Loop"... Hahaha I see what you did there Adam. There's a strip called Delmar Loop, and it was originally a trolley loop and the name stuck after it stopped running. It is probably my favorite place to be when I'm home.

Another great vlog today. Adam, you are the best!!!

Just loved the Aspirateur Museum. Great displays. They don't make 'em like they used to, now they are mostly plastic and die after a year. As a kid my mother had a really old upright Hoover that sounded like it was eating the carpet in use and frightened me so that I wouldn't go in the house.
Wow! You two are braver than most. I would love to know what you really thought of the trip up the arch? I could never do it.
A claustrophobic's nightmare lol
Glad you guys went to top of the St. Louis Archway. IT LOOKED TERRIFYING👀👀👀
That's really Amazing 😊, it's a dream come true I'd say✅
My mom had an Electrolux just like that. Brings back memories.
Wicked cool road trip! So glad to see you back!
