- The Marvel R is MG's latest electric offering, and one that moves towards the more grown up, premium end of the EV market. Currently available in China and coming to Europe later this year, the Marvel R is a big SUV that could rival the likes of the Hyundai Kona or the Kia e-Niro.
It's spacious, practical and comfortable, but it's the features including vehicle-to-load capability and the ability to tow, that make this car stand out from the crowd. Yes the Marvel R is a fairly luxurious option and perhaps not one for the masses, but it shows the future direction MG are heading in and that's pretty exciting.

Very confusing from MG. Another car that has roof rails that might not work. Using a uk brand but not selling in the UK. Making an SUV and giving it a small boot. They seem to go out of their way to screw up a good idea.

Too many negatives for my liking for sure. I'm beginning to despise the tyranny of the modern "we only make SUVs because that's what 'everyone wants' " line of thinking too. I certainly don't. Give me a fastback/hatchback !

Why is it that the "designers" automatically assume that an EV must have a massive tablet stuck on the dashboard and annoying haptics. It's a car, not a phone or tablet...just has a different powertrain.

It's seriously annoying, along with all the "I'm an EV like me" styling, 20 inch (very expensive) Tonka Toy wheels, the obligatory 'power liftgate', silly flush door handles and so on.
I think they look terrible! Sometimes it looks like they've thoughtlessly shoved a telly in there!

You said there was too much on the drivers display Isn't the drivers display customizable so you can pick what u want to see on the screen i.e. speedo, nagiation etc.. ?

Needs another 100 litres of boot space and will that front camera assembly behind the rear view mirror obscure forward vision for tall people like the MG5 or is there a lot more room and height in the cabin?
The same was said about the handling and performance of the MG5 before it was brought to the UK. Once you change the dreadful tyres it is supplied with, the handling and performance is very acceptable. Ride quality is also very good. I really hope it comes to the UK because it would make a lot of sales.

Interesting looks. Not sure if the very large headlights are fog lights or the normal dipped/full beam or if it’s the tiny slits higher up.
Looks great inside but for me the centre screen seems to be on an odd angle.

I’ve got a larger glass roof on my Citroen C3 Picasso and have no issues with roof loading by comparison to other normal cars.
This is also my case with a Volkswagen Golf Sportsvan. Very large glass roof, and I can use my roof rack without any problem 👍👍

The shape and the rear reminds me very much on the Audi Q5. The boot space is a joke for a car this size imo.
Indeed. Seeing it from the side, the back clearly is a last generation Q5 twin.
This is such an improvement in design over the other cars
I don't like it. I prefer the 5 EV and it's subtle and understated style. I find the trend of designing sporty and fussier cars so dull and out of place. With that design comes bigger wheels, harder suspensions and lower ride height and that has nothing to do with real world driving.

Nice review. Sorry it is was not suitable for a soccer dad with a ton of sportbags every weekend. Can you get hold of the upcoming MG5 in its chinese version? Maybe that one will do it.
That’s the feeling I have about most modern car designs whether that is electric or ICE, the speedometer seems to be an afterthought and is either too small for easy reading on the move, and/or isn’t clear and legible to help you stay within the limits.
Even when it’s a standard round speedometer with a needle, there is a tendency to show the speed in increments of 20’s and not 10’s (ie 20/40/50/80 rather than 10/20/30/40 etc) which makes it harder to read and takes your eyes off the road for longer than is necessary.
Do you own a watch, does it have 1 2 3 etc all around the edge, does it even have numbers. I have been driving for over 60 years and having 20/40/60 etc. has never stopped me being able to realise what speed I have been driving at. Only a numpty would not believe that mark halfway between 20 and 40 was not meant to represent 30.
@@grahamjohnson4702 first of all, there's no need to be rude by calling people names (you're entitled to your opinion)...
Second of all, I'm a professional HGV driver to trade (with we'll over forty years experience ) so I need clear and precise information to do my job safely, so the more accurate that information, the better plus (clarity is paramount)... There are times when you have to glance away from the road quickly, such as in congested traffic, so to actually see the needle at 30 (and not a dash/vaguely marked space that's usually between 20 & 40) makes the difference to whether you are driving within the speed limit; or not.
Penalty points on our driving license are something any driver does not want (and the fine either) especially if it was due too by being accidentally over the speed limit.
@@macjim Well I was an HGV driver for over 60 years until retirement and never found it a problem to hold the speed at 30 or 50 miles per hour so being and HGV driver for over 40 years is guarantee that you know what is right and what is wrong, and I stick behind my post.

When you consider a small two berth caravan will probably average around 950kg (unbraked) and 1200kg (braked)
Watching this, I have to say I’m really happy I went with MG ZS EV.
The exterior design is smart and the proportions are beautiful and the assembly is well executed...

The first shot of the interior says a lot, seeing that aftermarket phone holder shouts "the interior is not good enough / infotaiment sucks" etc
MG are in the top 10 car manufacturers in Australia by sale. Who would have thought we would ever see that.

Massive improvements being made, looks really good inside and out! Looks as if it has loads of decent and usable kit as well. Good for MG, shame it's not down to come to the UK, I think it wud be a massive success here if priced right.

A lovely sporty SUV EV, a direct challenge against the Byd Tang , VW id4 and Skoda Enyaq... this marvel R will look great in White, Army Green ,Champagne Gold and Gunmetal Grey.
A lot of car for the money, tri-motor AWD, 70kWh, 0-100kp/h 4.9secs. I have an MG HS PHEV currently, interested in the marvel R as my next car.
Is every MG going to look completely different to the previous one, this looks like one of those xpeng's. SAIC seem to think they just stick an MG badge on anything and that makes a car brand - I'm not convinced.
In Shanghai Motor Show it was just the "R", not associated with MG. People got confused as no one knew it's yet another new brand or just a SAIC model. Just ridiculous.

Rover and BL did just that…but at least it was on the sporty versions. MG means nothing any more. Saic ruined it.
They bought Rover and Mg but Ford decided to block selling of Rover name and shelved indefinitely.
So a direct comparison to the new Leafs then, about the same size and prize. Smaller boot but with frunk about the same storage
Steering wheel looks pretty much like my leaf 40.
I have seen this vehicle in the UK. There is one going round towing a trailer. I know it's the same but the badges are covered up. The only clue is the MG badge in the charging socket. Had to help the guy remove the CCS plug. Its blue with a sandy colour suede interior.

A Chinese design I hope. Over-designed and smothered in frills and bling.
In China, as long as the car is towing rated by manufacture before putting onto the market, then it is legal to tow on public roads. That's why most domestically made cars in China now have official towing rates.
I'm somewhat impressed. MG is certainly starting to move in the right direction.

Won't be available in the UK and was told by the dealer this is a car that has been available for many years in China and is getting replaced in the next year or so, which is why it is not coming here.
3 motors, cool, but why? Costs? Durability (no diff)? Efficiency? It doesn't seem to have helped packaging in the back unless you forgot a hatch there.

Can it load a big buggy in the back without the seeds down? does it have true one pedal driving? Does it have mg pilot? What is the safety rating ( MG'S ACHILLIS heel except the ZS EV )? Impressive charging speed. Driving speed should be very easy to see at any moment in a convenient safe position.Nice steering wheel. Nice inside and outside look. True real life range will be a make or break but SUV'S have a hard time getting 215 miles plus range for an affordable price. Anyhow we will see how the EU / UK version will be adjusted to the new audience. Could sell sell these in the UK but they would need to have a very good overall package / stats / price to cpmpete. I would not want to compete against the KIA NIRO which is similar & an exceptional good EV with an outstanding warranty & crash test results. One of the best imo. Will be hard to have an edge on them that is good enough to make potential customers pick them.
most of those answers you'll find on the mg website, look at the car then all the way down you will find the specs you are looking for. i am also a curious potential customer for an ZS or Marvel just finding the price a bit steep

Hope you paid the Union rate for the extras in the rice PADDY, they are not fields.
Assume the glass roof is fixed, if so not only you will get the greenhouse effect in sunny climes but think it would play havoc with that screen, should be adjustable.

Would be a big step to far for me as I unlock the garage there he is a 1972 MGB in bright orange beautiful lines and made in great Britain no technology just a pure driving experience in goes the key after the full length webasto roof is pulled back the click of the fuel pump it's fires up first turn and sounds like a race car helped by the stainless sports exhaust tango has been known to spit out fire before now no power steering or servo assisted brakes makes me smile something a modern car just can't do and the best bit of all it's been on the planet nearly as long as me

+1 I have been searching all over youtube and chinese social media to find any reviews with an actual drive of the Ei5 ev. No luck, only a few videos without a drive. I have made a tentative reservation for one and I am dying to find any information

It is left hand drive. UK is right hand drive, as is Japan, et al, so ‘small market’ sales for a different interior.
Due to the European market regulates. UK is on their own. You stil have the Vauxhall.

It's a shame that they are not currently planning on making am RHD version. Maybe they will rethink that in a year or two once it's launched in all the LHD markets. I hope so anyway
