GFT 2023:Kohima introduced grassroot football to Nagaland
SportsLIVE Nagaland: For the first time in Nagaland,Kohima District Football Association under the aegis of Nagaland Football Association started the grassroot football tournament in Nagaland, a tournament aim to focused at the tender age for young footballers in the state. Interestingly, 30 teams registered from Dimapur, Kohima and Phek district to vie for the coveted title for Under-10, Under-13 and Under-15 categories. A new leadership at KDFA with Mhasi Yhome leading the team to conduct D License coach and grassroot football tournament this year. A history in the Nagaland football and a stepping stone towards the state of excellence in football. The newly introduced tournament saw the young kids to compete in the championship and it was the difference of the football academy students that stood out in the match. 15 teams for U-15 (7 a-side), 11 teams for U-13 (5 a-side) and four teams for U-10 (5 aside mix-gender) came forward to play.
Director Youth Resources & Sports, Kethosituo Sekhose said "I see you as future footballers who will be representing our State and country in the highest levels".
The tournament gave chance for young coaches to honk their skills and coach the kids at grassroot. It was the much needed push that was missing in Nagaland for coaches and the kids to start training at young age. The tournament also saw a difference in the age through their birth certificates but it was all Nagaland football.
