Totally agree. When we play the Lions i think he will surprise all of those who think he turned into the old Darnold. Nah, ain't gonna happen. Darnold be ballin' man!
It is very apparent through five games, the offense runs through Aaron Jones. As soon as he was injured, the offense couldn'tmove the ball at all. The Vikings need another capable running back.
Fans need to look around at other QBs in this league. They seem to expect perfection, but look what Rodgers, Allen, and other top QBs did yesterday. Even Mahomes rating is terrible, but they find a way to win, despite mistakes. I’ll take what we got, and roll!!!!
Let’s talk about this defense. One of the most dominant nose tackles in football (Phillips) is lined up next to a first round pick 5T (Tillery) and an elite run stopper (Bullard). Rushing the passer we’ve got the league leader in pressures (Greenard), second on the league in sacks (Jones), and a Swiss army linebacker who leads the league in non-offensive touchdowns via pick sixes (Van Ginkel). At off ball, we have a guy that gets a pick every time he starts (Grugier-Hill) and two guys who are everywhere the football is (Pace and Cashman). If, by some miracle, you manage to survive that, you have to throw at a secondary with a hall of fame cornerback (Gillmore), a pro bowler (Griffin), an elite free safety (Bynum), the active career leader in interceptions (Smith), and a Jack of all trades that can play all 13 positions on defense that’ll take your head off if you get too close (Metellus). Your lone chance are quick hitters in the slot against Murphy, but I’ll take that lone weakness 10 out of 10 times
Two games in a row where the second half was rough, BUT, two games in a row that were sealed with a clutch interception. When was the last year we could rely on our defense to create a turnover when needed? This team, the whole team, is exciting.
I think what is being under stated is the last 6 quarters the Vikings are getting away from what got them 3-0. You look back to those 3 games Darnold was spreading the ball around to multiple different guys and then the second half of the Packers game KOC was force feeding Aaron Jones then against the Jets it was like he was trying to force JJ open. People who think Darnold is "Regressing" doesn't know how to watch football. Did Darnold struggle against a top 5 jets defense absolutely but KOC's play calls the last 6 quarters have been terrible. He needs to get Darnold back to spreading the ball around the Vikings have to many weapons to not be able to scheme different guys open instead of just force feeding one. If one guy is your offense then it becomes so much easier to take it away.
@TimothyAustfjord ok where to start on this one. First off i know that KOC doesn't throw the ball that's on Darnold BUT this isn't madden my guy yes there are plays designed to get the ball to one particular player just about every pass play has multiple reads a QB has to go through and great offensive play callers scheme multiple guys open the last 6 quarters KOC has failed at doing that. If that's not good enough for you let me ask you a question. How efficient is 6 catches for 92 yards on 14 targets? Not very? Or how about 30 yards on 14 rushes? No again? Meanwhile Nailor had zero targets in the game. That is an inability to scheme a running game and an inability to scheme past a player who was taken away from you. That falls on KOC and he knows it. Did Darnold struggle against a top 5ish Jets defense? Absolutely. But KOC didn't do him any favors and he hasn't been since halftime of the Packers game.
Last week the offense had to win the game. In the first half and the last drive. It's the NFL. The Vikings are going through a gauntlet. The toughest stretch of games of any team, and they are undefeated. Amazing.
We have to hand it to you on being right about Will Reichard. He looks like a young Justin Tucker. Quite a weapon that can win games as opposed to losing them. (knock on wood)
FWIW, this team is just a couple of additions from being absolutely dangerous, and I have a hunch that we're going to see Detroit expose the few areas that could use additional upgrading. I would definitely love to see the Vikes use some of their cap space for a dominating DT (Simmons? Dexter Lawrence? etc), and/or an upgrade to talent/depth for the iOL (even if Reisner is returning), and/or depth at CB (it's not the most physical group, so attrition is a concern...). And yes, Andy's suggestion for more depth at RB is a wise one (although IMHO Ty Chandler is good).
If Donald had a rib injury, he should have been pulled for Nick Mullins. He Missed lots of open receivers plus if you're injured go go to you're Bull pen so to speak
I drove from Billings, MT overnight through a snowstorm to go to that 2016 Colts game. The awe of being at the Bank for the first time took the sting out a little bit. Luck cooked that defense and AP felt washed that game too.
I just love that some Vikings' fans are already saying Darnold will turn into a pumpkin after one bad game. 😅 He'll be fine, especially after this game, he won't be facing tough defenses at all.
If our offense can’t play a consistent 4 quarters against the Lions it’s not going to be good. We really need a great game in all three phases. SKOL4LIFE
Definitely should consider bringing in another running back , if jones goes down this offense is going to be way less productive and not as big of a threat more one sided
Hear me out.. If the Titans loose next week, trade for their RB (spears) and although he was just signed last year, Jeffery Simmons for our 1st this year and our 2nd or 3rd next year.
Hey Andy, you would've loved the purple people eaters! Carl Eller, and Alan Page we're beasts!!! Imagine another level up from what John Randle was!! Insane!!

I remember when KOC was hired he talked about putting an emphasis on winning the “middle eight” as in the last four minutes of the first half and first four minutes of the second half. The last two games have been lacking in the middle eight which allowed momentum to swing the other way so the packers and jets could get back into the game in the second half. Hopefully coach can get that point of emphasis corrected moving forward. SKOL!
I'm loving the optimism we're all feeling for this team! I agree that this year's team is special. I just have three fears: #1 our cornerback room (they're our weakest group, imo); #2 our running game if Aaron Jones gets hurt; #3 if Sam Darnold gets hurt (PTSD from last season). I think some adversity may be needed for our team to retain their grit throughout a game. They start strong and seem to wrap things up strong, but that middle section is nerve-racking. But I'm loving this season! Bring on the Lions! SKOL
Way too many mental mistakes on special teams. Two weeks in a row they caused the game to shift momentum. They are making mistakes that should have been coached out of them by the end of high school.
Yup, I noticed #20 Carry on My Jay Ward son almost got one of those stupid running your mouth argument calls because he was probably getting owned by the punt gunner coverage guys from the Jets, and why he kept engaging (eventually blocking his guy in the back) even though Powell was already ten yards passed him... Evans... no need to even get that close to a guy that called a fair catch. No excuse for an athlete of his ability, he was 5 to 10 yards away when the fair catch was being called for. Have to clean those up.
My thought last spring, as we rebooted the D, was if this team is a top 15 D we'd be above .500. But with an elite D and Jefferson and Co., the sky is the limit and .500 is the floor. I will argue anyone who plays with Jefferson shouldn't be MVP. It's either Jefferson who's MVP or we are just a well-rounded offense with elite players.
Aside from the kicker, special teams need some work. Almost every week we see some sort of gaff that often let's the other team back in the game during critical situations. Running into the kicker, trying to catch a punt over your head, an unnecessary block in the back during a punt return, horrible punt coverage that allows a team great field position etc...It's become a bad habit.
I really hope the NFL flexes the Vikings vs Falcons game to primetime. Just because I'm going to be in Florida that week and I want to be able to watch the game without having to go to a bar to watch it.

Yeah Sam didn't have a great game. But one thing I liked was after he threw the INT he came back on the next series and threw some clutch passes and got us in FG range.
In defense of 2nd half output...let's remember the other teams are studying film ALL THE TIME, especially of the best teams and especially the next 2 or 3 on the Vikings schedule. Going pre-season vanilla on offense and defense saves some of the playbook for more important playoff games. Nice problem to have.
