The horse and riders you saw outside your hotel were from the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals). They were on a watering ride, the Household Cavalry can exercise their horses on London streets any morning as long as they are back in barracks before rush hour. It is called a watering ride because they used to ride to different water troughs around the city to water the horses. As you walked down Whitehall you passed the entrance to Horse guards parade which is guarded by the Household Cavalry every day. They also escort the King on State occasions. The Life Guards wear red jackets and white plumes, the Blues and Royals wear Blue jackets and Red plumes.

Further to my first post, the trooper you saw sat on the horse in Whitehall are the same men and horses you saw outside your hotel. They guard Horseguards Parade which is the official entrance to St James Palace and Buckingham palace. The horses stand guard for one hour and then change. The troopers on foot stand guard for two hours. The Household Cavalry are the most senior regiment in the British army.

The lower end of Whitehall, from the Cenotaph to Parliament Sq is called 'Parliament Street'.

Big Ben is not the clock, only the bell . I believe one of other bells is called little Ben.

Great video. You have made London look very appealing to visit!

The bell in the Elizabeth tower is actually Big Ben not the clock. Also the Houses of Lords & Parliament is part of the Palace of Westminster. Enjoy your videos. 👍🇬🇧

So nice to see you getting out early - it's worth paying the extra to stay at Charing Cross to be able to do that, I reckon. When I was a child in the Sixties you could walk along Downing Street - none of that security in those days. There's enough to see in Whitehall for at least an entire morning, if not a whole day! It's cenotaph rather centograph (you're probably thinking of a pantograph, the device which collects electricity on trains). Westminster Abbey has the UK's Unknown Soldier just inside the main door. Westminster Bridge is the one with the "rude" shadows - I'll let you Google that for yourselves ;-)

One small point. It's West-MIN-ster not West-MINI-ster. Many visitors make that mistake so you're not the first and won't be the last 😉

My grandma, born in Lambeth in 1902, always said Westminister and St Pancreas. I'm not sure if she said "murial" as well. Happy memories.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to the UK. I was walking in your footsteps yesterday having taken a trip to the newly refurbished National Portrait Gallery.

"The streets are pretty clear right now" We lived in the East (Limehouse) and when tripping out west, we used to drive across the city at 7/7.30 am Saturday and only saw the odd delivery van. On Sunday, at 8/8.30 similar. OMG you would not believe Christmas day: almost no cars at all (or people) any time of the day. London is def NOT a 24 hr city.

The view from your thumbnail is the view my wife had, albeit a few storeys higher, from her maternity bed. My two oldest girls were born at St Thomas's Hospital, which you are facing.
Go down Westminster Bridge Rd ( not Minister) to the south and turn left into the Lower Marsh Market and that is where my Primary School is.

Oh, my word! Not only do you pronounce CUVENT Garden in the old (and 'correct') way, but you demonstrate you're discriminating tourists by your very polite put-down of the place. If you come back, go inside St Paul's Church (exterior features in 'My Fair Lady') and see the memorials to all the actors and actresses. Much more interesting than all those shops.

Good call on Covent Garden. Nice to look at, and used to be our fruit & veg market, but full of tat these days.
