First, let me just say that I do not know how to do sahaj meditation, but I've practiced a different mantra based meditation that brands itself as 'effortless' for many decades. At one time I came across teachings from a different tradition that said you will hear the mantra spontaneously when you get into deeper levels of awareness, but there was never any instruction on HOW to do it. What I learned was that it is something that happens naturally, and for me it's never happened even after 50 years of practice. So, I wouldn't worry about trying to hear it spontaneously. Either it will happen for you or it won't. Any strain or desire to make it happen or having hope or anticipation will only keep your attention from going into more subtle levels of awareness. More importantly, in my opinion, is to transcend the mantra so it spontaneously drops away entirely. The mantra is a vehicle to take attention into more and more subtle levels of awareness in order to get to the SOURCE of attention, pure awareness; awareness in which you are totally awake yet thoughts are no longer arising. The whole point of this is to realize that what you truly are is not dependent upon the mind so that there is a shift away from the mind created identity that views itself as a separate 'me' and into the direct realization that what you are is the SOURCE of mind, pure awareness/consciousness/Being that is not separate from anything. From my experience of meditation here's what I've observed when it comes to the mantra. It will eventually become more subtle as you practice your meditation regularly. It's common for new meditators to subvocalize it, which is the next subtlest level after saying it out loud. So, pay attention and notice whether or not you are subvocalizing it. This is when it is said inside your mind rather than out loud but your vocal cords are still actively engaged in even the slightest way. If you are then relax the throat, tongue and jaw. I find it helpful to allow your jaw to slacken while keeping the lips closed. In other words, let the upper and lower teeth separate and the tongue and throat relax. Then comes thinking the mantra without subvocalization. The tendency during this stage is to keep the mantra clearly pronounced inwardly, trying to keep it going, and this can continue for a long time. To get through this stage there must be a level of trust established that the mantra is always part of you so it isn't necessary for it to be mentally forced and thought in a clear way, but it will come when it's needed. In other words, trust the mantra is there and let it come into awareness in whatever way it wants to show up without struggling to keep it clear and distinct in awareness, yet knowing it is there. It might be helpful to maintain the following attitude: instead of repeating it intentionally it is being whispered to you by the pure intelligence within at quieter and quieter levels. This takes you to an important step in transcending the mantra and arriving at source consciousness, to be totally open to letting go of being a 'meditator' practicing meditation and just BEING without trying to be anything in particular. Another way of saying this is to relax into clear seeing, to rest in/AS knowing-ness without knowing anything in particular. This is what pure awareness/consciousness is, to simply be wide awake AS Being, and nothing else. So, the important thing is not to look for any particular experience, such as spontaneously hearing the mantra or to keep the mantra going, but to transcend the mantra and realizing your true essence, your true nature --> formless, dimensionless pure awareness/consciousness/Being, which is silent, still and unconditionally peaceful. You. Are. That.
As I am studying astrology, I learnt that mantra works only if the planet or lagna is in air/space sign, Is that correct? Please do enlighten Asuthosh ji🙏
Mantras start to work immediately when initiated by a siddha Guru! If planets are in air sign one feels it impact almost immediately, in earth element sign the effect is felt after prolonged period of chanting, but it starts working right from the first chant!
@@aashutoshchawla Great answer! I was wondering if it is mentioned anywhere in the ancient books of Jyotisha or resources? On what basis we come to that conclusion!
@@aashutoshchawla This one - If planets are in air sign one feels it impact almost immediately, in earth element sign the effect is felt after prolonged period of chanting.
@@menonksa I have heard people discussing in certain schools of Jyotish that mantras work better for air sign, which I don't agree to. In my humble understanding, Mantras effectiveness totally depends in the one who is giving it(Guru) and Sattva and Sadhana of Practitioner. If at all someone has observed it or felt it working fast for air sign, and not giving results for earthy sign, it is totally at feeling level. It is not necessary that everyone feels the working or impact of Mantras with same intensity, but mantras certainly work with same intensity if recieved by same Guru and practitioner Sadhana and Satvva is also almost same.
Thanks Asuthosh ji for your input, and for kaliyug mantras are the best weapons and shield also I suppose. Apart from daan, homa and roots as per elements👍🙏
What is the Sanskrit meaning of MANTRA ?? Maan + Antara = directly connected with mind & intellect & ego & conscienceness . Antara meaning taking inside - a word or sound that initiates oneself on an internal journey with in one self . Maan meaning mind . Thus a Dhavani or a sound that allows your own journey to find yourself with in yourself . You folks spoke all around the bush WITHOUT HITTING ON TO THE ROOT WORD 🤦🤦♀️
