  • On November 12, 2023, Fairmont Heights High School business teacher, Mario Williams, was awarded the Teacher Award at the Fairmont Heights High School Alumni Association's (FHHSAA) 1st Annual Fairmont's Finest Awards Ceremony held at Martin's Crosswinds in Greenbelt, Maryland.
    Mr. Williams, a true pillar of the FHHS community, has dedicated nearly three decades of his life to enriching the educational experience of FHHS students and preserving the rich history of this esteemed institution.
    Mr. Williams' journey with FHHS began in 1990 when he graduated with distinction from the school he would later serve with unwavering commitment. This deep-rooted connection to FHHS has been the driving force behind his exceptional contributions.
    For 29 years, Mr. Williams has been a revered educator in the halls of FHHS, teaching the principles of business to countless students. Beyond the classroom, he has worn numerous hats, including class sponsor, yearbook advisor, baseball coach, school photographer, and school historian. His multifaceted involvement underscores his passion for enriching the FHHS experience beyond academics.
    Mr. Williams' dedication extends to preserving and educating others about the history of FHHS. Over the past three decades, he has been instrumental in documenting the school's history, ensuring that the stories and achievements of FHHS alumni are not forgotten. His crowning achievement in this regard is the FHHS 50th Anniversary yearbook, a timeless artifact that continues to serve as a vital piece of FHHS history.
    Mr. Williams' exceptional contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 2009, he was nominated for the prestigious Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, a testament to his excellence in the classroom. In 2012, he was named "My Favorite Teacher" by The Gazette Newspaper, reflecting the impact he has had on his students. Additionally, he received the Outstanding Educator Award for his exceptional work as an educator in the Prince George’s County Public Schools system. However, Mr. Williams' greatest source of pride stems from the heartfelt expressions of gratitude from former students whose lives were positively influenced by him. They acknowledge his support in college preparation and admissions, his valuable life advice, his role as a caring and attentive listener, his kindness and sense of humor, and his engaging and compassionate teaching style.
