    Well we have like 14 Pete's on our farm and that's all we'll buy, we've found they hold up pretty well cause they are really built solid and don't have all the fiberglass and plastic that lots of others do. We have a mix between 388s , 389s and 379s. They also for the most part don't rattle around as much as others trucks ive seen . He wouldn't be disappointed with a Pete and that narrow cab is the bomb when you have the wife along for the day 😉 otherwise ya u probably won't really need or want it but I feel they're also a little more cozy and stuff.

    Smart farmers favor fuel economy and price to operate versus truck drivers who favor looks and comfort. On my dad's farm, we drove old rust buckets that were paid for, and that we could fix ourselves rather inexpensively. Also, cheaper to insure.

  • @Seriousmods
    @Seriousmods 2 місяці тому

    Yeah, the 589 (with the single piece windshield) is a replacement for the 389 with the narrow cabs. The 567 (slope nose) also has the wider cab, and they all share the same interior now (the 579 aero style truck does as well). Pete wanted to go with a single cab for all of its trucks, and so that's the plan going forward. I personally don't like it: the narrow cab look is much more classic and North American. But business is business, and what's good for the customer preference isn't always what's good for the bottom line. You can get a single piece windshield for the narrow cab btw, but it's not a common spec.

    a Peterbilt truck is the John Deere of trucks Mike especially the 389, model. You take a Peterbilt keep it 15 years, then you keep your IHC or Volvo 15 years put same amount of miles on them then you Mike will know the difference between them. Apple's & Oranges. A Freightliner would be even worse yet. I will tell you what I tell others many farmers that do buy fancy Peterbilt's do it because when they have their name put on them it's the only thing of their farm they can bring to town and show off when delivering a load of grain to town. You can't bring your big X9 combine to town every day now can you.

    At the mine, the drivers wanted Kenworth. Because we got one, the mechanics insisted that all the others be the same - it drastically simplified maintenance and logistics by having all the same truck - especially on a remote site. My point being it is best to stick with a single make and model - if possible - as it lowers maintenance costs.

    that 389X is a limited edition with a whopping $38,000 extra price just for the X package. Peterbilt has gotten carried away with their extra prices for what, two shinny fenders, two stitched seats with 389X on them a plaque on the dash stating it's a 389X with its number. This is the 3rd time they have went down this route, with the 359 model in 1987 they did it, in 2007 they did it with the 379 & now with the 389. the 1st limited edition the 359 was a big success making those truck rare & valuable, not so much with the next ones, due to they made so many more. To each their own but I've had a Peterbilt near 40 years & wouldn't have anything else but if I didn't it would have to be a Kenworth, they are just as good when come to durability
