I love Nora's character, but I really wish they just said she was autistic instead of coding her as "weird"! Even Nora's boyfriend was coded to be autistic. Rachel said Nora's boyfriend was weird and couldn't maintain eye contact, which are typical traits of autistic people (they're often called "weird" for not appropriately following social cues/situations)
But I'm glad the diversity on the show was actually diverse, in terms of body sizes, race/ethnicity, and sexuality. Most shows have an almost all-white cast with one Black person and another Asian person, who are conveniently all skinny and cishet, and try to pass it off as being diverse 🙄
i found the script and in Nora’s description they say she’s on the spectrum, but I totally agree that it should’ve been actually said in the show

Great indigenous representation so many Naitive women are abused and it isn’t brought up enough police don’t do enough. So many Naitive women are stolen everyday and nobody says anything. Martha’s story is so real for so many young girls.Also i just love how it’s an all female main cast we barely see this much WOC let alone main characters.Also all the men in this show are such real people that exist KAM.
I live in Alaska and my family are all natives and lately, the last few months, natives have been going missing at an alarming rate in my town and the police don’t seem to be able to do anything about it. It was really refreshing to see native representation even if it wasn’t my type of native yk, especially in such a distressing time.
Martha's character is so needed today!!! I love seeing the Ingenious representation in a mainstream series. We are such an invisible race in media and tv today. Martha gives such a much needed voice to a under represented society from all Native Nations. I love seeing such a modern representation of a NA character vs...the old Hollywood stereo type of Native Americans. No matter what nation they represent we all rejoice 🙌🏽✨....I just pray they don't kill Martha's character off??? !!!!!Please keep Martha alive!!! We need her voice!!!!!
Unfortunately, it seems that police and authorities are either in on whatever is happening to all of these MMIWG2S+ (missing and murdered women and girls and 2 spirit. for those who don’t know) or they are being paid off to not do anything about the missing people. This goes for all people regardless of their ethnic background too. But it seems odd that white or white passing victims are paid more attention then indigenous victims. I didn’t see Shelby’s dad agreeing to her dental surgery as winning her over but instead as a punishment. Her mom emphasized how much pain it would cause and I think he wanted her to suffer because of her “indiscretion.” That’s just how I saw it though it could’ve been a nice gesture idk

I also loved the show. I thought a really interesting part tho was the fact that Gretchen was essentially running a cult lol. Like her workers (lyn, Alex, other white dude) all worshipped the ground she walked on to some degree. Lyn only went to the island after that fall bc gretchens praise “tell her she’s so brave” made her feel worthy. The whole thing where the other white dude said he’d “never fucking betray gretchens trust” gave me that same cult-y vibe too. I feel like that should be explored more in S2 as well bc it explains why she’s able to keep the study going
I also thought it as a cult and how Gretchen used the insecurities or things that they desired to manipulate people to work for her and believe that they are working for the grater good, that is what a cult does and all of the people part of the cult manipulate more people. It would be interesting to see in season 2.
100% support this statement. It was this one particularly shot on one of the episodes where Gretchen had this white light behind her, and the camera is like looking up to her while the white guy sits back and admires her. Like literally alluding that she’s a God and has worshippers
literally the fact linh had that injury and STIL wanted to go like she must have been in PAIN that whole time but still couldn't even stop to get checked out by a doctor because she was so dedicated to "the cause" that's so cultish to me
i actually LOVED Shelby as a character. it's clear she was truly a good person with alot of internalized issues and insecurity due to her upbringing. the way you could just feel the amount of fear she was going through when her parents found out about her kissing becca. It's clear to me that her homophobia was truly just a projection of her own shame, but I do like it that instead of hammering Toni about it, she does actually try and make an effort to be kind towards her. You could feel a sense of her identity crumbling at the end. And I think her character is really representative of what a lot of LGBT people who were born into highly religious communities go through. I did feel as though perhaps the others were a bit harsh towards her, it frustrated me slightly because it was really clear she was torn up about it. It really isn't her fault she had been indoctrinated that way but I understand the outside perspective too.

And the way Toni has the flash of images when she sees the Takis in the vending machine also read to me as "when you were alive." and OH BOY I hope I'm wrong. I really really do. I love both girls so much, and Martha looked like she was about to hop in that water all covered in blood...
Martha and Nora were my favorites so I really hope they make it. On the other hand, killing off only poc characters (Jeanette/linh as well) would be... problematic. To say the least. Also, from Rachel’s episode I kind of theorized that Nora is in critical condition, like a coma or something?? I think at least one of them has to survive.

That was the heartbreaker for ya? All her problems could've been solved if she just stood up for herself. Marty was, most likely from context clues, molested as a kid. They didn't put it on anybody else or blame anyone else, shelby blamed that girl and couldn't take responsibility for her actions that led to an unnecessary death. I watched this show in a day. It was soooo good. Although 5 minutes in I said them stranded on an island was a set up. No way a private jet of teenage girls is going down and they are not found in hours. I loved Jeanette and I’m pissed they killed her off. There is no way that lady isn’t getting sued.
I don't think that it being set up was suppose to be a surprised. If you look up the name of the show, the description says that it's an experiment.

Yes but at 18 she is considered an adult she can do everything he can besides drink and that's only in some countries. You can take college classes at 18 so what really makes it pedophilic? Is my real question? Is 18 year olds allowed to bear the burden of credit scores, rent and the like but not who they want to date? It's the universal and scientific understanding that at 18 years of age your mind and body is where it should be to BE ABLE to deal with things of that nature (except drinking apparently even tho most teens do it anyway).

Toni is my favorite character but I'm biased because I want to be her and her girlfriend. Then Dot and Nora are tied for 2nd. None of them irritate me which is so refreshing. The writers made all the characters 3-dimensional so there really is no good reason to hate any of them (excluding Gretchen if that even has to be said). I hope season 2 does us right!

Idk if anyone has thought of this yet but I think when they said "she" had disassociative tendencies they were talking about Martha and not Shelbey. It makes way more sense. And that's why they also didn't show Martha. And I think they did allude that the person they were talking about might have multiple personalities, and when Marthan killed the animal she did seem like a different person... idk its just a theory

This is a really good theory honestly. I also had this theory that Martha didn’t get interviewed because she had some type of serious injury. Either she was like a coma or something or maybe she was so damaged mentally that’s he didn’t talk or anything like that since the island.

Nah. Martha is so traumatized by that doctor that she ended up ignoring the truth, this was her coping mechanism. In shelby tho u can see the disassociative disorder bc she is living 2 worlds, her parents world when she is this perfect princess and her world when she likes girls and just wants to live as the real her.
When martha killed the goat she just had a breakdown bc of all the shit that happened to her
I feel so called out by Shelby's story. My biggest fear is being shunned by my family if they found out. I've heard those coded threats of what would happen to me before. In some weird way I'm glad Shelby got to be happy even just for a minute.

This show was so great. Honestly, I liked all the characters. People were hating on Leah but I really liked her by the end. It’s not crazy if you’re right 🤷♀️ She also makes MOVES! I know this wouldn’t be possible because then there wouldn’t be a show, but shoot if I were Nora as soon as Jeanette dies I would’ve been like bets tf off. I think the investigator is going to help them get out - hopefully they DO get out! And in S2, what causes them to pull the plug? The shark? Or do they wait even longer?

I really don’t think the boy who was in jail for the hazing was actually gretchens son. We never see them interact and her meeting Nora there was a little too perfect for me. Nora had just experienced trauma and was clearly vulnerable when Gretchen swoops in and uses Noras need to help her sister to manipulate her into become the confederate. My guess is that Gretchen had been watching her for a while at that point.

I loved this show so much. But one of the things that bothered me was how at first, Fatin told Leah how creepy Jeff was for being interested in her. She pointed out that his novel is about a sexually inexperienced 22-year-old girl and how it's probably a sick fantasy of his. But later on, when Fatin is apologizing to Leah, she brings up Jeff and says he is "probably head over heels for her." Why did she go from rightfully pointing out Jeff's predatory, creepy behavior to basically praising Leah for "getting an older guy"?

I guessed something was off about Nora by like ep 2 but also after Jeanette's episode because that's when we learned there was two people on the inside and before yall say sutn its because when they told Rachel's story they spoke about Nora like she was dead so I was like what happened is she dead whats wrong and then Dot's episode happened and I was like okay its one of the two and if you noticed they showed the people they were interrogating leah,shelby,Rachel,fatin,dot, toni but didn't show Martha so I was like okay maybe its Martha or Nora but seeing her story i doubt and by the time i got to the last episode I was like its definitely Nora
But we need to know WHAT HAPPENED TO NORAAAA AND MARTHA ON SEASON2

I think her ankle was already weak from her accident on the trampoline wasn’t it? It probably got hit or something. I have a bad ankle and it swells up randomly (not as bad as hers but I also didn’t damage mine as badly🤷♀️) and hurts ALOT after I get off work or do alot of standing. Ankle pain is no joke 😭😂
