There were a couple of bugs with Death Knell in this run (which have been fixed now). What the card does is to activate the start of combat effects (like resetting counters, or granting once per combat effects like giving you a buffer charge) and/or any start of turn effects (like incrementing counters, or dealing damage to all enemies).
For the boat relics, it should do what the relics do at the start of combat (which is to reactivate the relic and set the counter to 1). With the energy relics, it should give the player 1 energy the turn it is played (which is what the relic does at the start of your turn). The interaction with energy relics is usually not valuable unless you are just looking to play an additional card for storm or trying to get more out of the energy-spend theme in a turn.
Would love to see you play more of the mod, and I'm happy to take any feedback on issues and balance suggestions!

I've said this before in a video. But its not a character.
Try the Pale of the Ancient's mod.
Its an alternate to act four so any run you do with it, most likely will be a banger of a run.
HOWEVER I have a few tips for this act cause going into it blind made me struggle.
Every mini boss has its own special relic reward you're gonna need to fight the final boss, you have to fight 3 of them in total but you can only get 1 special relic so hover over each fight and see what gives you the most value for what your deck needs.
Each boss is very hard with its own gimmick that you need to learn but they're very much themed to the boss/ character you are fighting.
You also get one free life and it will automatically win the fight for you but not give you any rewards should you die.
AND most importantly, read every status! including each enemy especially because the final boss has two phases and a gimmick for each phases.
One thing for frost here:
The final boss plays the Battle against a true hero boss music, so for youtube sake, you will need to get your own music.
I don’t think Toby Fox cares about Undertale being used, but YES PALE OF THE ANCIENTS
Undertale music is essentially open source so you’ll be fine with that.

I really love Slay the Spire because of the sheer amount of creativity that the modders bring. Every time you think you’ve seen everything, something comes out that is very unique!
If you’re looking for a harder second act, I’d suggest looking into The Jungle. It’s an older mod but extremely quality

Back again with a character I've recommended in the past. Featured with a card in the Pack Master mod under the Pinnacle Pack, I propose The Dregs. The Dregs is, in my opinion, Prismatic shard, the character. While they do have their own cards specific to them, because they are the amalgamation of the bodies from failed runs, they can draw cards either directly or inspired by the core Ascenders. They feature several new mechanics to add to gameplay as well as special curses, which can be played called blight. Blight is a new mechanic as well that I will not explain here because I'd really like for you to check out for yourself. Not only that but their starting relic also features a side grade variant, much like the Ironclads burning blood to black blood though not in function. Lots of new things to play with and over all a blast to play through. Fun Fact: The Dregs was the first modded character I played to A20.

The retaliation intent mechanic is interesting, it reminds me of the Aya mod's photographs.
I think I can explain the Death Knell/Captain’s Wheel interaction.
When Death Knell checks for a start-of-turn effect, it’s checking for things that would happen on your next turn. That’s why on turn 2, playing the knell on the wheel activates the block effect, granting the block it would have given you next turn.
If you don’t play the knell on turn 2, however, it doesn’t recognize the “gain block at the start of your next turn” effect, and instead triggers the start-of-combat effect of setting the relic’s turn counter to 1.
Theoretically, this would expand to any turn based relic, such as being able to activate Stone Calendar on turn 6, while any other turn would reset the Calendar’s turn counter to 1.
tl;dr: Captain’s Wheel has both a start-of-turn and start-of-combat action, and Death Knell gets confused about which one to activate.

My guess is the wheel is coded as "At the start of combat, set up that in 2 turns you gain 18 block." and using death knell on turn 1 confuses the counter.
Between all the MTG art from Packmaster and the Storm mechanic showing up here, I can see the STS community has a lot of Magic fans, and I am here for it

This character feels as though they may have watcheritis. I'd certainly like to see more of them. Too often you get a character and it's a stomp out the gate.
I think the way to make this character better offensively funnily enough isn’t to do grape shot and other things, but to just focus on getting more ink (while also not having volatile) than your enemy has hp.
This would still make it so multiple enemy battles become very harsh, unless all your ink cards applies ink to all enemies, which seems rare. But if you get more non-volatile ink on an enemy than they have hp, they’ll just eventually die. (Tho if you can’t block and they scale their damage really high there’s a chance they’d kill you with their last blow, depends a bit how that works).
I think if you have the volatile ink card, but only use it in group battles (or use it against enemies with basically only multi-attacks) this could go pretty smoothly.
For heart you’d need to prepare something special tho. Multiple Cephalopod forms could possibly work, so if you had ransom (bury a card and gain energy = to its cost) + Blackbeard ghost (increases energy cost by 1 every time you bury something and deal (don’t remember but like ~18) dmg) you could get basically infinite energy for mass Cephalopod (or just use the card that gives you the last card played each turn to your hand and gain that much extra energy if it works with other power cards, but that is a dubious topic).
Otherwise a volatile ink with enough cephalopod forms could meme on most fights so long as you had early block/big ink cards that exhaust. But scaling enemies would always be a problem, especially the heart even though volatile counters it pretty well. In all of these decks tho you’d basically need an early Davy Jones’ to exhaust the bad starting cards and make a 1 draw = every card deck (which makes having multiple cephalopod forms through Pirate Bay hard). So only if non-exhaust cards let’s you copy powers would this be ‘easy’ to do and early acts would still be hard

You should try the Marisa mod, her playstyle revolves around charging up for double damage and exhausting burns for strength and extra damage. She’s pretty easy but so much fun once you realize what your deck wants to do
If you're looking for more complex characters try The Duelist. It is both difficult, yet can be also obscenely broken.
It's based around Yu-Gi-Oh! and has multiple decks to try each with their own strategies, you unlock more decks to start with as you play.
I see a lot of people saying the Packmaster is the largest character mod, but that just simply isn't the case - the duelist has literally double the number of cards (1400+).
You can also customize it to decide what archetypes you are able to see in your run if you want similar to the Packmaster.

The Duelist mod adds a new playable character, Yugi Moto. Yugi has an expansive set of 1400+ new cards, all adapted from real Yu-Gi-Oh! cards. This mod also adds 80+ new relics and 50+ new potions. None of the content added with this mod should affect the base game, and none of the relics or potions are added to the shared pool (i.e. they are only obtainable when playing as The Duelist), with the sole exception of the Millennium Puzzle which may show up for other characters.
I kinda like the idea of a character being a tad too weak but not overly complicated, it’s usually the opposite, as in a tad too strong and overly complicated, I think the synergies are there it’s just learning how they work, I think it’s offensively this character lacks, ink is a very strong defensive mechanic

Grape shot references grapeshot from mtg with basically the same effect but 1 dmg instead of 2. Was a really powerful card cause you could play a deck with a bunch of 0 cost draw 1 cards and cycle through your deck and play enough cards to grapeshot for 20 and otk your opponent.
