New boat Sonicwake

- I noticed a problem with this boat that will limit the fun had. Very low run times and a potential to ruin your batteries. (seriously, I lost about $500 in batteries) In this video I show some upgrades you might want to do. Replacing the ESC might not be necessary, but definitely a motor change and prop change makes the fun last a LOT longer with no damage to batteries.
tnx 4 kool video, I got my Sonicwake last week and like it very much, Ron Columbus, Ohio..
I put copper wire in my traxxas spartan and I never have that issue, of the solder points coming undone I recommend putting it in your boat too, the copper does way better with heat than the aluminum wire. Pretty soon I’m gonna be buying the sonic wake, and When I buy it, I’m gonna put copper wire in it, Cool video.
The wire they use is copper. It's just a very very fine strand copper wire coated with a concentric silver plating.
Here's what I found on the web.
ELEKTRISOLA silver plated copper wire is composed of a copper core covered by a concentric silver plating. This material combines the advantages of copper, such as the conductivity, with the bright and shiny surface of silver. In addition, the silver coating provides high corrosion resistance.
crispyspa whats the largest M.a.h 6s battery you would run in the sonic wake? 7,600 m.a.h maybe?
@@calebsrccrawlers the bigger the better...but I'm not sure how a heavier battery would affect the self righting feature.
I have this boat 3s power right now but dia prop do think would benefit it
Run Dual pick up lines to cool down faster
I have the Sonic wake and have tried everything and can’t get it above 57mph which is fast enough now for me
That's good!👍
EXCELLENT! I've been building homemade airboats lately, and this just made my day! Bonus footage had me gigglin' the whole time!..:)
Nice work buddy. That’s what I want to do . Motor swap and esc .
Try to keep the stock ESC. I've been having some trouble with the boat not flipping in calm water.
I'm going to move the ESC back to the stock location.
That’s great information brother. Thank a lot . Keep us posted.
I’m trying to get the sonicwake to handle heat at the batteries and plugs better. The 50c batteries is all I run because of the heat structure. What should I do? Motor is cool and so is the motor.
@@pitbikecookracing3324 how hot do the connectors get? Unless the solder is melting, I wouldn't worry too much about.
Thank you for sharing your vids! We just received our Sonicwake yesterday and it does suck batteries. What other motor would you recommend that does not require dremeling the motor mounts, direct fit, and maybe staying with original ESC? Thanks again!

This one should be a direct fit. I would get the 1400 Kv
It may draw a little more power than the one in my video, but it will be a lot better than the stock motor.
I'll subscribe to you but let me know how it turns out so I don't miss the video.
Awesome video looks amazing 😊👍.. Have you got any tips yet on improving it?
Thank you. I think the stock ESC would suffice but I would definitely do the motor and the prop change.
@@crispyspa Thankyou..
@@crispyspa I see what you mean by needing a different motor.. im bolting in my Hydropro inception motor right now along with a water cooling jacket between the original mount and the motor motor and mount fits perfect.. will try this im sure will get rid of lag..
@@paulcooper7162 you may not get very good speed from the stock hydro inception motor.
My go-to choice of motors is the leopard 4074 1050kV motor.
The only reason I went with a 54 mm propeller on the Sonic wake was clearance to the rudder. The leopard will handle a much bigger prop.
Even still, changing out the motor with the hydro inception motor is a good choice. You should get lots longer run-time.
I don't think the designers of the Sonic wake had sport boaters in mind when they designed the boat. They were looking for immediate impact.
They need to rethink the motor and propeller choice.
Not everyone is out to set a speed record. I would much rather have longer run times with a fun factor greater than 4 minutes.
@@paulcooper7162 I do have an aqua star 4084 1050kV motor that I have just sitting around. I replaced it with a leopard because the leopard is more efficient.
It does work well, I will sell it to you for $45 if you so desire. But I do recommend going with the leopard. I think they run about $80.
Let me know if you are interested.
Sweet boat 👍🏼
My favorite part was the bonus footage.
What kv motor did u use?
Leopard 4074 1050KV
Nice that’s why you can run a 54mm prop
Is it faster then the hydro pro inception? If you had to choose one which would it be?? And for upgrade possibilities and ease of upgrading which would you pick?
They are about the same. Sonicwake all the way because of its self righting ability.
I don't think they are making the inception anymore... But mine had a large flaw, I hit a turtle or a fish or something and damn near broke the transom off.
The plastic near the bottom is really thin.
they just came out with the second version based off the joysway alpha
What size motor should I put on my 55" RC im really try to make it fly😁 new to the boat thing bought Hull on eBay
I have never done anything that large, but, if I were to do something that big I would use this motor:
hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-aquastar-t20-3t-730kv-1280kv-water-cooled-brushless-motor.html
You are going to need a fairly large ESC... A swordfish 300amp is what I would use.
You will need deep pockets.
you will probably need around $800. Going electric is not cheap, but it is worth it.
#crispyspa, if you don't me asking what size cooling jacket are you running w/ the Leopard 4074 - 1050KV motor, since I am going to add one in my Sonicwake?
If you buy the motor from offshore electrics, the cooling jacket comes with.
As for the size, I don't know offhand.
@@crispyspa many thanks for your response!! I wish I would have but I found a brand new Leopard 4074 - 1050KV motor for $50.00 but no cooling jacket! #OSE sells them separately and I think i found the correct size cooling jacket, let me know your thoughts if it will fit my 4074 - 1050KV motor?? www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=leo-4050-jacket
@@FLSharkdiver that's the one. 👍
@@crispyspa Thanks brother, already got the motor on order and now i JUST need to install the Seaking 180 esc and I should be set! I have been running one of Chris Hoffman Sonic3props and I get about 2 mins of run time.lol.... Hoepfully with the new Seaking ESC AND THE NEW Leopard 4074 - 1050KV motor i SHOULD GET SOME LONGER RUN TIMES A? Also, I see you have that Seaking 180 installed off to the side and lt looks like there are no issues with the boat!!
@@FLSharkdiver DO NOT CHANGE THE POSITION OF THE ESC.
I've found that the position I had it in made it a crapshoot whether it would flip over or not.
I just had my sonicwake out last weekend and I was getting about 7 to 9 minutes of full throttle runs. 5000mAh.
Hi thanks for making this video, as I just purchased this boat over the weekend. please tell me which motor and prop that you are using to get the longer run times? I know you swapped out the ESC also but do you think I can use the one that it came with without any issues?
You should be able to use the stock ESC without problem.
Motor is a leopard 4074 1050Kv
Prop is the CNC 54mm
Both can be bought at offshoreelectrics.com
thanks for the info do you have a part number for the prop as there's regular, round ear, detongued, etc... BTW love the bonus video as that's what I bought this boat to do.
@@bobjoye3550 www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=cnc-5414250
The motor will handle a much larger prop, but it won't clear the rudder in a full left turn.
Hi a ? for you. Did you end up making a new bracket mount for the end bell (non-drive) part of the motor since the leopard motor is a little wider than the stock dynamite motor was? If so can you post a pic of that bracket mount.
@@bobjoye3550 nope, no bracket. Time will tell if that was a mistake or not. None of my other boats have end brackets.
just bought it and look fwd to getting it so tell me what do you recommend I do with it before I get I out on the water?
You can go ahead and try the stock setup, but watch your temperatures.
I recommend at the very least a motor and prop swap.
The motor I am using is a leopard 4074 1050 kV
If you do go with a different ESC, try to keep it in the stock location.
I did have some troubles with it not flipping because of my ESC placement.
Have fun with it, I know I do.
God dem bug😄
Sounds annoying tho sorry
? What's annoying?
