Agree about Super Mega Zero. Such a tight controlling game. You don’t hear much about it either.

Some outstanding picks on this list. Great list Justin. Quick feedback on a few -
Shatter Remastered: very nicely done Breakout-style game with a few novel twists.
One Finger Death Punch: tons more fun than one might expect. I guess it boils down to being a rhythm game, but a compelling one with trappings of other genres.
Super Mega Zero: truly a precision platformer, gets very challenging quickly. But very inventive and clever.
subpar pool: executes its concept quite well, with some light rogue-esque aspects.
Spelunky: a pivotal game in my history; truly popularized the action rogue-lite as we know it. Devoted months to this game until I developed the skill to beat it several times. Derek Yu intends to release UFO50 this year, I think!
Hell Is Other Demons: not widely discussed but a very good action rogue-lite of sorts. Not easy but well-executed and rewarding.
Galacticon, Annalynn: two entirely different games, but both hark back to 80s arcades in the best possible way. I’d also put Donut Dodo in this group. And all three are published by Flynn’s Arcade.

Oh yeah, Donut Dodo would be on there, but it's in both the Top Action and Top Retro lists already and I have a policy to not allow any game into more than 2 lists (other than the top 100) in the interests of giving as many games their shot at a list as possible. Do we really need the likes of Dead Cells and/or Hades dominating a ton? Nah, we'll make room for other folks. :)

Great point! So many lesser-discussed games that are fun and worth highlighting.
I see a few more great ones on your list, some 2D shooters. Grand Brix Shooter, had a lot a lot of fun with that one. Also Debris Infinity, Horizon Shift ‘81, and Switch N Shoot! All are well crafted in the details. And those last two really pair well with a Flip Grip or similar device.
Apologies though, I wasn’t intending to critique any of your choices - I just happen to think of those three Flynn’s Arcade games in similar terms. There is something about my mind, such that when one of them is mentioned, I feel compelled to bring up the other two.

@@sfbsfb Oh, no offense taken, and I encourage people to share regardless. Was just pointing out something I have periodically in comments concerning there being "rules" behind the scenes so sometimes there'll be games that are omitted in a list that would obviously suit them and it just happens to be because they'd already hit their quota. In particular for games that are "challenging" and make that list that happen to be something like a Roguelike X, either the Roguelike or the X list won't have them. Just always helping people understand is a priority since it doesn't always make sense without an explanation. :)
