- Jerry Seinfeld honors Julia Louis-Dreyfus during the 21st Annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at The Kennedy Center. An outstanding lineup of entertainers gathered in the Kennedy Center Concert Hall to salute Julia Louis-Dreyfus, recipient of the 21st annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on October 21, 2018. The Prize, which is named to honor one of the world's greatest humorists, was presented at a gala performance featuring some of the biggest names in comedy. The event was taped by WETA Washington, D.C. and aired nationally on PBS on November 19, 2018 at 9:00 p.m. ET. Capital One is the Presenting Sponsor of Comedy at the Kennedy Center.
Under the direction of the creative team from Done + Dusted, the Kennedy Center’s new producing partner for the Twain Prize, the cast features many of Louis-Dreyfus’s admirers, friends, and collaborators, including Stephen Colbert, Bryan Cranston, Tina Fey, Ilana Glazer, Tony Hale, Abbi Jacobson, Jack Johnson, Keegan-Michael Key, Lisa Kudrow, Kumail Nanjiani, and Jerry Seinfeld.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus earned worldwide acclaim for her portrayal of Elaine Benes in the hit NBC series "Seinfeld," and as Christine Campbell in the CBS hit comedy "The New Adventures of Old Christine." She currently stars in, and executive produces, the HBO series "Veep," which will soon begin its seventh season.
Between all shows combined, she has received eleven Emmy awards (six consecutively for "Veep") with twenty-four nominations, a Golden Globe award, nine Screen Actors Guild awards which makes her the most decorated actor in the history of the SAG awards, three Television Critics Association awards, five American Comedy Awards, a Peabody Award, and the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy. She has broken the record for the most Emmy's won by a single performer, as well as the most consecutive wins for a single role ("Veep").

All four of them had obvious genuine chemistry that no amount of acting can fake. That's what made the show so awesome we all got to feel like the 5th member in the crew.
Kramer and Frank Costanza really were the icing on the cake. The whole cast is brilliant but those two really stand out.
Julia just continues to be as beautiful as ever.
Yeah. Just the fact that Seinfeld debuted nearly 30 years ago. She seems to not have aged at all in those 30 years.
Stunning.
@@FabledGentleman
Doesn't she have cancer? I guess she's doing better
And with my nose too

She looks like her dad.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus has one of the most wholesome smiles in the world. Congratulations Julia. I loved Seinfeld and Veep.
Yessss. She has made the biggest splash of the four of them post-Seinfeld with Veep. Amazing performance and series.
I liked "The New Adventures Of Old Christine" too. Was short lived but she was hilarious in it.
That's what I was going to say! I love "New Adventures"!
dcool2u2 -- I thought the show ran on fumes after Wanda Sykes left after season 1. From season 2 to the very end, that show was always in jeopardy of being canceled.
Ravi Teja. I always found her to be absolutely beautiful
30 years and still one of the best sitcoms to date
Yes, in that category you can also add Married With Children and Cheers
the best.
💯
The best, no doubt.
The best
He wasn't acting, he just loved being around and interacting with her. That was soooo cool for him to say that and a huge compliment for Julia. Good stuff.
This was such a lovely homage! You can tell how much Jerry respects Julia and viceversa.
That was my endearing joy read too, Iris
Love me some vice versa
I am happy for Julia but still wondering why jerry doesn’t have one?
This is the best honorary speech I've ever heard. Jerry Seinfeld is truly a comedic genius.
Moral Of The Story: chemistry is the bauxite of acting. Congratulations, Julia.
#MarkTwainPrize
Greg - succinct and brilliant.
KC Heylin I agree wholeheartedly. #brilliant
Jews have been acting since the birth of Jesus.
That has to be the most genuine and heartfelt speech for an award ceremony I have ever heard. And if Jerry wasn't being sincere that is the best acting I have ever seen.
I rewind regularly to see her expressions while watching Seinfeld. She is the life of the show.
I fear that we may never again see a show as solid and timeless as Seinfeld. 30 years on, my kids watch it and it is funny to them as well.
She is why I watch and rewatch Seinfeld. 🙂
Get... out!....
Have your eyes checked.
Me too
Incredible commentary and a bit of stand up, Jerry is a genius
LOL !
He IS a genius! I came here to say the same 👍
Jerry's material was always very good even when he was just starting out in the late seventies. Considerably better than most of his contemporaries.
Crazy how beautiful she still is..
this speech is only five minutes...but he conveys so much information in the time span that it feels longer.. Really excellent public speaking...
yada yada. Elaine: "We went to my place.....And yada yada , I never heard from him again." Jerry: " But, you yada yada-ed over the best part." Elaine: "No, I mentioned the bisque."
I liked her line: Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake. Brilliant with the finger pointing. 😂😂
One of my all time favorite lines!
Brittney Lewis ml
gnagh hahahahhaha literally watched that episode last night!!
gnagh what does she mean by “no, I mentioned the bisque?” lool
"This person is a network note!" Julia had said about the success of 'Seinfeld' that it was lightning in a bottle. There were SO many things that just fell into place, making this show work and bang on all cylinders.
Some of the things that just fell into place, specifically concerning Julia becoming Elaine: Her and Larry David both didn't enjoy their time on SNL. Network note: "need a female character." Larry suggests Julia to Jerry. Jerry and Julia have great chemistry. Julia loves the material. Her dynamic with the rest of the cast is equally phenomenal. Boom! Lightning in a bottle. (Plus, she's just a fantastic actress and performer-which of course doesn't hurt.)
And she's a combination of cute and funny which results in sexy
Son Of Dad Fixed it. Thanks!
Was there banging on Seinfeld ?? Maybe I should start watching the reruns.
"Her...didn't enjoy" Tonto, is that you?
David Savian banging? Like sex?
Best network note in all history! :-)
Well, second to Cousin Oliver on The Brady Bunch.
@@mrchopsticks3 What a stupid comment
@@rth095 Well, somebody has a stellar sense of humor.
@@mrchopsticks3 I didn't get the "Brady bunch" line either.
@@gullybop1695 Cousin Oliver was brought in for the last season of the Brady Bunch as a way to spruce up the show, kind of like they did with Growing Pains or Family Ties. He might be the most notorious "network note" as most Brady Bunch fans can't stand him. If you don't know the Brady Bunch, then you wouldn't get it.
As I continue to watch reruns all these years later, Elaine has become my favourite Seinfeld character.
Jerry Seinfeld may have been the star; Michael Richards and Jason Alexander may have been the anchors, but Julia Louis-Dreyfus was the link that made the chain work. If she wasn't on that show I don't think it would've lasted 9 years. Greatest TV ensemble ever!
a show called "Seinfeld" and Jerry was the LEAST important person on the show.
even the secondary characters(newman, puddy, etc...) were better.
@@TheSighphiguy You couldn't be more right.
Julia is a gem, what a damn talent, as a comedian AND a talented actress she deserves all of this and more.
GET OUT! *shoves violently* - Elaine
;)
This comment deserves wayyyyyy more likes
Gothic,"purse",no repeats forever on zip code, blacks read at muah house ;-).
Lol
@@c.c.244 Nothing! I understood none of what you said.
Seinfeld wow........a whole chapter of my life! 🇮🇪
"Suffering fake pain from this fake relationship". Can anyone write a better line than that? 🤣
JLD is a legend. Not because she's funny and sexy, but because she is a billionaire heiresse and she went out and kicked ass and made a great career for herself when she could have sat at home and done nothing. Respect.
Couldn’t agree more Charlie.
It's wild how many actors are secretly heirs to massive fortunes lol Kate and Rooney Mara's grandparents each own an NFL team, lol. Nick Kroll's dad is a multi billionaire. Chevy Chase's step mom owned Folgers coffee. Tons of examples out there.
yup and she didn't use her name and money to afford her "a spot" or "the job she wanted". Now, having rich parents doesn't hurt, but like i said I didn't even know she came from money until year 8 or 9 of seinfeld and i was dedicated to learning everything Seinfeld.
She never had to wait tables, that’s for sure! 😂
Oh really? I had no idea.
All y'all hate comments are irrelevant because that man is the richest actor in the world, and he's accomplished more than any of you will ever do in your life
No J Wil, because he created, wrote, and starred in it. It became a pop cultural icon to hundreds of millions of people, known to people around the world. Objectively as an "accomplishment" it's up there. One of the all-time greatest hits of broadcast television.
@@jjryan1352 Yeah but Larry King thought it got cancelled.
Agreed; but still: ua-cam.com/video/gbU4VRs2rro/v-deo.html
Jerry is a class act! Congratulations, Julia, on your award, you deserve it!!!
You can tell that they all liked each other!
What a genius. That beautiful monologue about one person without one innuendo.
God damn Julia looks as gorgeous as ever
Smart funny women are uber sexy!
The library cop; LAPD detective; Shakey the Moyle; Eric the clown;Chip dip guy; Manya's pony; Crazy Joe Devola, somebody stop me!
Still watch Seinfeld reruns!
Yes, Kramer and George were the best characters on the show. The show was Jerry's and obviously, he had amazing moments. But Elaine was the glue that held it all together. There would be no Seinfeld without her.
Seinfeld is my favorite tv show of all time by far the best show ever Elaine was definitely a home run I can’t see her as anything other then that character
Wow.. After all of these years and she still a piece of beauty and that smile.. God!
short and to the point, never taking the focus off the honoree. nice
Tears in my eyes.....
Love Jerry. Love Julia. Love the whole show. It was wonderful.
This was a great story full of friendship but I just hope people didn't miss the wisdom Jerry gave about why most comedy shows fail even though they have A-level comedic actors and writers.
If a great comedian gets their own show and it's not funny, that doesn't necessarily mean that it is that comedian's fault or that they are not funny, ultimately they have to follow the whims of the network executives .
She deserves this award!! Congratulations Julia!! 🥸🏆
Ho appena finito di guardare tutta la serie, di in botto, e posso dire che mi manca già, come mi é mancata quando é finita nel 1999. Per me, la migliore di sempre.
She. Is. Freaking. Hilarious. The Elaine dancing and her neuroses in the show made her hysterical.
Perhaps the best introduction I've ever seen. Obviously well thought out and well scripted, as it should be. And delivered in a perfectly spontaneously manner. You can see immediately that Seinfeld is a supreme talent and 100% professional. Deserves every bit of his success.
@0:07 Jerry's "I Love you, let''s have fun" look shows how well they know each other, and I'm glad we got to see it!
So cute to see their friendship!
*Gotta love Jerry's honesty in this speech.*
Jerry can make a simple story so funny.
I fell in love with Julia Louis-Dreyfus the first time I ever laid eyes upon her on SNL.
Why has THIS man not won this award???
30 years later, still looking for my Elaine. Definitely one of my favorite characters of all time. Dl still have a crush❤
917 people are still wandering the desert looking for bauxite.
She's one hell of a NOTE!!!
Why am I just seeing this?! Jerry gave a great speech and worthy of Julia
Jerry loves himself very much.
He known to be a bit of prick in real life.
Best comment - yes, he does
@@shivasrinivasan80 he thinks his poo don't smell 💩♨️
If you haven't watched VEEP you are missing out on more amazing Julia
And that network note really paid off.💙
a true friends speech
I'm just amused at all the people who clicked on a clip obviously of Jerry Seinfeld to then proceed to complain about listening to Jerry Seinfeld. 😶😅 His speech was very sweet.
“How could anybody NOT like him?!”
STELLA!!!!!! Dreyfus has had an incredible century since Sein Fell, Jerry made the Bee movie and remains the most popular has been of the last 20 years.
I agree with the above, @GaryEdge88. Jerry made it all about Julia, which is how it should have been. It was natural and sincere, and you can tell they truly have a huge amount of respect for one another. Love that show. Started watching the reruns and just can’t get enough.
TOO COOL!!! ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS OF ALL TIME!!!
Kevin Napier Get out!!
Her blooper reels from that, the greatest sitcom to exist, are still the best on UA-cam.
I loved Julia too. I used to have a HUGE crush on her. She was always so funny as well. What would the show be without her?
Pure genuine genius !
Congratulations Julia
Love Jerry and Julia!
a great comedian- thanks, julia
This was BEST show EVER
Couldn't have said it better myself!
all 4 characters made the show, plus Neman LOL
Yeah. Everybody seems to forget him. But he was great too
And perhaps Larry, a little bit...
Never saw a so intelligent guy like Jerry.
Did you see the unbridled joy on people's faces when the camera focused on people in the crowd listening to and watching the magic. It reminds me of the joy of people watching a Beatles concert.
3 dumb guys and 1 smart chick....i love it
They need to restart the show as it has become a magical mystery!
She, Julia....looks even prettier now than then.... that is rare.....
Excellent speech
The humble card, never fails.
More than anything she has done she was so perfect a natural she was a perfect fit
Wow. What a brilliant tribute.
I recall that, years ago, the four main characters of Seinfeld were asked which of them was the most pleasant person on the set. Julia received three votes; I'm not sure where her vote ended up.
David and Seinfeld have both said the show was about how a comic gets their material. Not nothing. Not stupid. Everyday life.
Perfect people perfect teeth. Teeth are perfect. Actors on display with teeth to perfection, smiles and teeth, and hair as well, and posture, and radiance and teeth! , All perfect actors all around. May perfection persist for performers who perfect the performance of perfection.
Wow that was great. Makes me proud to be a human.
Julia is still married to her SNL co-host, Brad Hall. They knew each other from college and were in a troupe together. They landed on SNL but she stayed a little longer and he left.
The man can command a stage!
and i love Jerry :)
lovely job! Thanks lots for this. 😃
0:01 the most unnatural walk in history
Best show of all times!! Classic!!
How sweet
That was so sweet
so great, all of it.
I love 💕 you Jerry, top show..
👑 of 👑's ♾️
Seinfeld deserves a prize for this speech.
Wild how Jerry somehow made his speech about how successful his own show was.
All you morons in the comments conveniently skipping over how he attributed its success directly to her, which without her it would have failed lol
I never understood why they never got together in real life, they were perfect.
Julia Louis Dreyfus and Kaitlin Olson are the most hilarious women on tv
That is so sweet
