I'm only two minutes into the first track and I can already tell this thing had a huge influence on the black metal that would come out of Norway. Also, it's a shame we lost Dead. His vocals are so so good. If he would've remained alive to record on De Mysteriim Dom Sathanas, I hazard a guess the album would've been even better.

to me the live in Leipzig versions of de mysteriis songs are the true versions of what the album should have sounded like attila is good for everything after but i dont think his style fit de mysteriis very well his pronunciation sounds very off even for this style of music however this could just be because of his accent basically i feel like dead is the true voice of mayhem

Wow, this demo is amazing from start to finish, they were so young at the time and they managed to create something fabulous in my opinion. I haven't stopped listening to them, I would have loved to be at the right time and at the right time to see them live. I am fascinated.

Dead always considered Morbid a Black Metal band. He even said they're Black Metal in a letter he penned to Metallion. I consider Morbid early Black Metal.
@@Gregbaltzer I hate to talk about genres because it sounds nerdy and stupid, and I'm 3 years late but, as we all know well, Dead didn't even live long enough to see the genres well established and distinguished from each other. In his time in the band everything "dark" and "evil" could be called Black Metal, be it Venom, Mercyful Fate, Sodom, I guess even Celtic Frost, but if you listen to the guitar riffs this is straight up Death/Thrash Metal. There isn't even Black Metal's (in today's standards) most well-defined characteristics in here: Blast beat drumming and tremolo-picking power chord riffs, although his vocals sounded very Black Metal-esque.
@@todessehnsucht some bands cross the borders of different genres I think morbid is one of these bands definitely got a lot of death metal however there are black metal traits in there I would classify it as Blackened Death metal (a combination of the 2) maybe early black metal.

Bro this kicks so much ass Pelle didn't know what he was talking about. I don't think anyone does because I listen to this album way more than any mayhem album. It's short but still it's killer like the perfect vibe
i see two extremes: either the posers who just watched lords of chaos and think that pelle is the best vocalist in the world, and the elitst wannabes who insist that pelle really sucked as a vocalist. Actually he was a decent vocalist, far from being the best, but still a good vocalist.
The artwork was done by a guy called Necrolord. He also did in the nightside eclips and some dark funeral album covers as well. His artwork just fits the extreme metal genres pretty good.
I remember the media coverage of Per's suicide . I used to buy a mag called Metal Hammer and it had a big spread about his suicide, and then the court case with Yarg and Euronymous' death. I wasn't really into black / death metal, but I loved thrash and hardcore stuff. I've recently rediscovered Morbid's EP December Moon. It's fucking blinding. If only Per hadn't heard of Euronymous' and Mayhem. Then he wouldn't have gone to Norway. He may have still been with us.
Lot of people here commenting are clearly not familiar with the development of metal music from the 80's 'till 90's, saying how this influenced this and that and how it's "better" than Mayhem etc. It's a good demo, yet it remained unknown untill the black metal hype of the unknown and the cult around Dead and Euronymous, Morbid's influence has been marginal if any. This sort of thrash or speed metal was popular those days and there were loads of bands making stuff in this vein, influenced by Sodom, Slayer, Kreator, Metallica (yes!) etc. What really stands out in here is Dead's vocals, although they have not yet fully matured into what his output was in Mayhem later on. Also, Pelle was seeking to create darker sonicscapes than where the band was heading to and thus he left and joined Mayhem. Luckily so, since Mayhem was creating something new and innovative - True Norwegian Black Metal. If you prefer this over Mayhem, I recommend to delve into 80's trash metal scene rather than 90's black metal.
Dead was 18 when he recorded this. He sounds like a 10,000 year old demon, and it's pretty frickin sweet

The artwork was done by a guy called Necrolord. He also did in the nightside eclips and some dark funeral album covers as well. His artwork just fits the extreme metal genres pretty good.

I remember the media coverage of Per's suicide . I used to buy a mag called Metal Hammer and it had a big spread about his suicide, and then the court case with Yarg and Euronymous' death.
I wasn't really into black / death metal, but I loved thrash and hardcore stuff.
I've recently rediscovered Morbid's EP December Moon. It's fucking blinding.
If only Per hadn't heard of Euronymous' and Mayhem. Then he wouldn't have gone to Norway. He may have still been with us.
Wasn't he bullied in Sweden? I think we may have lost Dead sooner if he stayed in Sweden...
He is still with us, but I understand that he had a lot of potential to offer the world.

THIS might be Dead's finest moment. Hails!!!
Lot of people here commenting are clearly not familiar with the development of metal music from the 80's 'till 90's, saying how this influenced this and that and how it's "better" than Mayhem etc. It's a good demo, yet it remained unknown untill the black metal hype of the unknown and the cult around Dead and Euronymous, Morbid's influence has been marginal if any. This sort of thrash or speed metal was popular those days and there were loads of bands making stuff in this vein, influenced by Sodom, Slayer, Kreator, Metallica (yes!) etc. What really stands out in here is Dead's vocals, although they have not yet fully matured into what his output was in Mayhem later on. Also, Pelle was seeking to create darker sonicscapes than where the band was heading to and thus he left and joined Mayhem. Luckily so, since Mayhem was creating something new and innovative - True Norwegian Black Metal. If you prefer this over Mayhem, I recommend to delve into 80's trash metal scene rather than 90's black metal.
