Kyle, your flexibility and positivity will absolutely allow you to move from an in-person concept to an online concept without missing a beat. Our high school classes start Thursday with surnames A through L and surnames M through Z alternating days on campus. We are fortunate that the conference feature of our LMS allows those students at home to be in class synchronously. I have three classes a freshman and (while I will not call it a tootles board) I have set aside board space so each group can leave messages for the next days group. Just trying to help the students stay connected as a whole class when they will only see in person half of their classmates.
Hey Kyle 👋🏼 I love your videos and your outlook on education and teaching. Thank you for your positivity during this time. In my country, we still haven’t decided yet. The government has been silent about the whole thing. Administrators are supposed to go back to school next week. We’re still unsure if it’s virtual or not. It’s kind of frustrating not knowing how it’s going to be and not being able to go back to our classrooms since we shut down back in March!!! Teachers haven’t been allowed to back up their classrooms- since we had a 24 hours lockdown for two months then 18 hours lockdown, much less setup a new classroom 😓💔. I don’t want to think about the state of my classroom 😓💔 also it’s going to be sad walking in their and seeing my kids’ belongings from last year 🥺💔💔
Fellow Ohio teacher here. Fingers crossed we get to at least meet the kids before teaching remotely. It is going to be an interesting year. The room looks great.
Re: Multiplication board: How do you plan on keeping your students who may not be as fast at learning the multiplication tables from feeling disheartened when they see all their classmates moving up on the board?
Love this question! For me, I think critically about the classroom culture we are cultivating on a day-to-day basis. I pride myself on a classroom community that builds students up, that positions them as competent sense-makers, and that makes them excited to be authentic learners. If a student is struggling while their peers are not I push my students to bring out the best in one another. Hopefully some positive reinforcement from both myself and one another will excite them for working harder towards mastery. This also leaves me with a great progress check! There is likely I can be doing something to further support this student in meeting their goals. Hope this helps!
@@mr.kylecohen I also wanted to say that your positivity is infectious - thank you for inspiring me to be more optimistic (and a better teacher!) You seem like you would be an amazing teacher and friend! :) Sending good vibes your way!
So houses are actually a part of schools in Australia. They aren’t classroom management though. There are different events in the school year (debating, drama, sports at lunch time or school wide aths days, swimming carnivals)
Mister Kyle Cohen would you give me the definition of tootles? I think I may have misunderstood the word or sense my vision is going I may not have read the right spelling. But I tried looking it up in the dictionary and it didn't make any sense with the way you were speaking. I'm sure that you know exactly what it means in the educational sense. And I find what you were speaking of very very interesting! I'm far too old to have children again and I'll never deal with children but I'm very proud to be part of your Channel. I wish you all the best and the best of health! Take good care of yourself because the children of today are the future of tomorrow. And you are one of the best I can tell!
Beryl: your comments bring me so much joy! Our "Tootles" board is a fun way of sending little notes to one another at the end of each day. For the last 5-10 minutes of the day I let a few students come up to the board and write an encouraging note to one of their classmates. It can be as something as "_____ was a great friend during math today." It's one of my favorite ways to establish community and positivity in the classroom. No clue why we call it "Tootles," but it's super easy and makes a lasting impact. Thank you for being you!
@@mr.kylecohen when you explain it that way it is a good use of the word! One definition is a joyous sound of a trumpet or horn. So that would be perfect
@@mr.kylecohen Wow! Such talents!! Are you willing to share the template or the knowledge on how to create it with me? I have seen a few on TpT and on other elementary teachers' vlogs, but yours stood out to me. I really like the way it looks!!! Thanks for your consideration.
So inspiring! I'm interested in hearing more about how and when the house points are awarded
You are the kind of teacher I strive to be one day. You are so positive and creative.
We need more teachers like you!
I can’t wait until your book signing
Same.

That's awesome! We typically have events throughout the year with our houses too. Great way to establish community!
For sure! The houses are across all years so it is nice to get to know other students
I start teaching August 19th with students in person instruction
Mastery = Memorization?
Hi Kyle your you tube video are fantastic and i hope you are well thanks liam kelly

Looking good, Kyle! Can you tell me where you got the multiplication challenge bulletin board from?
Thanks, Terry! I actually made everything you see on the multiplication challenge board. Printed, laminated, and hung!

@@terrywright4112 good question. I would like to know as well
Are you staying in the fourth grade or are you going back to teaching third grade 😃
I’m in the UK and we start back in early September, 100% in person and no masks. Should be interesting...
Interesting is an understatement! I feel you!!
