That’s awesome congrats on one year tattooing Time flies when you’re having fun!! Keep working hard at it as you can only go up from here and keep rocking🤘🤘
Dumb question, is distilled water sanitary? It’s not like Bac water or anything, are we just talking about regular bottled distilled water?
@@RichSutherlandBB technically yes, distilled is sterile water that come in jugs. Saline can also work, just remember saline is salt water.
As I've said before Dave, your videos always come up when I'm in need of the information or reinforcement of what you bring, Thanks dude. ✌️☮️
Glad to know that they’re helping you out my friend! And they’re coming out at the right time. As always thank you so much for the continued support and keep rocking it brother🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘

your videos are the biggest help out of any other tattoo artist on youtube you explain perfectly without over complicating things. im about to start tattooing on myself after a few weeks of practice and getting a steady hand, im still scared though because im confused as to if i apply pressure with the tattoo machine or if i just hold it and let it do its thing? thanks so much for all your content you’re the best🖖🏽
That was very good advice, Mr. I'm from Indonesia

Another great video 🙌🏻
Thank you so much truly appreciate the support!! 🙏🤘
Hey man, thank you for your great work and great support for all of us beginners here. To be honest I’m struggling a little bit with my passion to be an tattoo artist. I am 48, have a good job and a great family. It’s hard to go this path of my dream for me. Hope you have a good advice.
Another great video helpful just starting out practicing line work on myself practice practice practice everything you mentioned I am trying to fix joining lines slowing down not losing my stencil so thanks
I have lined a few with RS and find it to be more comfortable and I love the thicker line it gives. One client was skeptical when I told her I was gonna use a 9RS but she ended up loving the way it turned out. 🥰
Its really hard to stretch the skin on my right arm, when tattooing with my left hand! Thanks for another great video. 😎
That’s so true I usually have to have someone stretch the skin for me so I can tattoo it. Thanks again Smoke always do appreciate the support brother!! 🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘
I use my knees to stretch my forearm. But miss the other hand still as it gives some feelings and “indications”
I'm a beginner and on artificial skin I control 09RL and 05RL well, but I couldn't do it on human skin. On human skin so far I liked the 09RS. It's going to be a lot of voltage and angle changes until I know what I'm doing wrong with the RL on the skin
Thank you, great video. I'm sure your new stuff has the audio balanced. Useful info
Sick video
such a good video, great tips!
Feels funny, pulls out. - A rule that can be used in other occasions. 🤣😂
Hi guys ! Solong Needles works with CNC Q2 or only Rhein ? :) anyway great informational video again ! Thanks Dave
Wonderful explanation as u go as always. Is there a way to contact u personally without being on here
Let’s go art hope all is well with you
All is great vacation is going well, and you all here keep me motivated so thank you!!🤘🙏
HI SIR!!!TNX!
Do you mainly dry wipe? I know using a damp towel sometimes removes the stencil even dabbing it messes it up.
I have a question.. I'm having trouble tattooing clients with tuff skin?? Any advise???
Hi witch liner is better to use Medium or longtaper
Great video mate, as a apprentice (1year in) i'm very, very confused about needles, because, i can take a 1207RL into one coil machine, and get a extremely thin' line, and other machine alot thicker, and i am having somewhat same angle, deapth and so on. That confuses the heck out of me, because i am afraid to take a 1209RL because i'm afraid it will be too thick, and the lines gets thicker in the years anyhow... Tomorrow i got my first big peace, a big eagle on the chest "shoulder to shoulder" and i just can't figure out if i should take the 1209RL out for this one or not, for some reason i HATE 1207RL, i mostly use 5's... Any tip or idea? I know you are not useing coils mutch, i also have the bishop wand packer, but i couldnt really line with it, it might be because i am so unexperienced, and in that i find coil machines alot more easy, i think it's because the wands or in general rotarys are so light, that my brain dont understand how hard to press the needle into the skin, because with coils you have some weight, and even when i am useing coils i have to think in my head " come on, press harder " because that is my issue, never going deep anough and being afraid of blowouts, when i really shouldnt...
- Sometimes i just HATE lineing, some areas it looks like "shit" when i zoom in on the picture and take very close look on the lines, like tricep area and such, or if people got a little more fat tissue than others :P....
Long text here, i hope its oke to write something a little bit longer.
I appriciate your videos, following you, + insta and all that, big love :)
Depends on the style of the eagle if its realistic go with smaller liners or line with a mag, if its traditional go with bigger liners. And just a tip when working with coils that can happen depends on how you tune them but keep 3 of them, 1always for just lining , 1 for just shading , 1 just for color packing.
So that u get used to every machine and it won't confuses you as much. Every coil hits different and every skin is different. Good luck with the eagle buddy just be comfortable and confident and go with the flow. I hope my comment made sense
With that 7 mag on the shading, did you go rounded or flat? Before I started I figured a flat mag would be my go-to, now with my first 10 under my belt I find myself going for the curved mags instead. I'm also curious if you found this to be true? (Figure with a color packing video next mags will be a topic at some point). Great content as always! Semper Fi, and keep it up.
PS that tip about green soap and wiping is good to know.
Whats the speed volts you use for this tattoo? 5.5?
Hello can you help me i dont know what mashine pick? cheyenne sol nova unlimited 3.5 , inkejsta x1 or fk irons flux all machines wierless
I really am wondering about different needle brands; i recently started and i'm now looking into brands (i don't want to buy a box of half jacked needles)
I been trying to get my hands on the wand packer for awhile now..sold out..the shader is available but i want that 4.2 stroke
I know the feeling I took quite a while to find that packer but I’m gonna start looking around for another option something cheaper and easier for you guys to get your hands on hopefully I’ll find it.
Hey Dave. When you make the minor stitch that are in jeans. Is that to blend and separate two colors to blend?
How do you avoid those drops of ink that happen sometimes and make it really hard to know where u are going with the line? :(
Dip only the tip (that what she said) and put a thin layer of vaslien over the area u are going to Tattoo. And dont wipe just dab it with a few times
1209 rl or 1009 rl???
Any advice for a new apprentice? I start today lol
Let them teach u not treat u like a slave you pay them money not they
The lining was with a 9rl
Show me round shader lines in 0.30 and 0.25 cheers , see which lines Come a
Out cleaner and sharper
You explain so well each technique, and you put emphasis on « taking our time » and « stretching the skin ». That’s true! Better being slow but effective. Thank you so much, you’re an amazing teacher and probably helped a lot of us with all your knowledge!
Wow that’s awesome to hear I think you so much for the kind words and support. And this is true taking your time slow and steady will absolutely win this race. And I’m really glad to know these videos are truly helping you guys out. I share what I know and I just hope for the best so again great to hear. 🤘🙏🤘
@@ArtSomething yeah and as a self-teaching apprentice, basics are even more important. Keep on doing your videos, you’re awesome!
Depth is always a hard one for me, I don't want to ride the tube because I know I need to train my hand, but as my tattoo heals I can see that my hand shakes up and down, no matter the angle I pull. I'm assuming there isn't any tricks for that, just practice huh?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge:)
I’d say you could definitely ride the tube as it will help you keep more consistent lines and it’s good for longer lines as again it keeps it more consistent. But you do have to be careful and ensure that your needle depth is correct in and what not. And I believe as time goes on you’ll get comfortable not riding the tube and in the end you’ll be able to ride the tube and you need to and float the needles in the skin when you need to. Sometimes you just have to figure out what works best for you and don’t be afraid to do it and don’t be afraid to try other stuff here and there. As long as you’re learning and pushing forward that’s all that matters. So keep at it and keep rockin🤘🤘
Can we still send our fake skins to you? Do you still make reviews on those? :)
I just ordered a tattoo kit to practice and your videos are really helpful!
Congrats on the new equipment and I’m really glad the videos are helping you out!!🤘🤘
Hey Dave my names Dave as well but just wanted to say I started tattooing a couple of months ago for the first time and I can say 100% if it were not for your channel and all the information you’ve put out there I would still be trying to figure out how to set up my machine honest to God. Thank you so much for doing what you do and taking time from your life and family to help all of us who don’t know anyone personally or have any prior knowledge of how to tattoo other than being tattood. I’ve been complelty obsessed with tattoos from a very young age and I’m finally at 29 taking the time to try and persue something I love and not just the shit I have to do like so many of us do. Much L&R.
-Dave S.
So cool to hear the channel has really been able to help you out as it can be really rough in the beginning. Also great to hear your chasing the dream as it’s not easy but certainly rewarding. Keep at it and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. You got this brother and keep rocking !!!🤘🤘🤘
@@ArtSomething Absolutely brother I’m loving it. Roughly how long were you tattooing before you first tattood someone other than yourself?
I think that is the most difficult thing to tattooing as a beginner. Getting depth, speed & voltage in unison. That "sweet spot". I still don't have it down perfect. But I'm getting the hang of it. I'm actually practicing more shading now than anything. Black & Grey. Your videos help tremendously Dave! Thanks
I agree that is one of the hardest parts in the beginning of tattooing. It is the biggest struggle for most people and what throws them off the most. Sadly there’s just no easy way to learn trial and error I suppose is the only way. I still struggle with it as well, idk if I’ll ever be perfect at it but I guess that’s what fun about it and keeps us working hard. Black and grey shading is the next hard part and same things apply there, learn what you can and trial and error. Keep at it my friend and keep rocking🤘🙏
Oh man when it feels funny the sweats hits ya
Ain’t that the truth !
I'm so glad I found your videos, been learning a lot from them. I'm working so save to buy a tattoo machine and the equipment I need to learn and practice tattooing :) and some day be awesome at it. Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)
Thanks bro love all ur vids super helpful for a beginner or anyone
No problem James happy to help brother!!🤘🤘
Thank you Dave for all your hard work man, I'm definetly getting better watching your videos. thanks again!
Yow Dave, always an inspiration......just decided too why not try and make videos on tattoos and the way am passionate about tattoos. Continue the good work
Thats is clean and solid linework.Good explain your skills and you work slow down.Thats the Key!the Horror is when you be nervous, than sucks all at ones
You don't use toilet paper, ink checks, what do you use for checks? Can you recommend me?
Toilet paper… ink checks… sorry man I honestly have no idea what your referring to to??
@@ArtSomething Toilet paper is easily stained with ink. What do you use to check ink stains?
What cartridges do you use?
Currently I use Emalla Eliot Carts and Mast Pro Carts.
What brand of cartridges do you prefer? I've been looking for some at a decent price point that work good. I use cheap ones on fake skin.
I recently started tattooing clients for my apprenticeship and these vids have really helped me make those first few tattoos turn out great! love how detailed all your explanations are 🙏
9RL is my favorite. Thickness is good, smooth, and maintaining depth feels the best. Done my best practice so far with 9RL.
Hello, do fake skin hold ink from round shaders worse? Because when I am tattoing lines with RL’s they are fine but with RS’s they arent solid and I have to make 2nd or sometimes even 3rd round the same line
I’ve noticed that the bigger the needles, the more ink that shoots out the tube. I went from 7rls to recently trying 11rl. But it’s difficult because so much ink expels from the tube and I can’t see my stencil. Is there a better way? Even when I dab, doesn’t really help
Hi, I’ve been looking for a tattoo school for a long time, but where I am it would cost a lot. I’m new in the channel and I wanted to ask if I can be a professional only with your training and practice in tattooing, or I must go to class and learn methods, I'm sorry my English is not very good I am still learning!
Good video ,thinkingvabout a Bishop wand ,but you should wipe that shiny stuff of the stencil 👍
Is it illegal to tattoo others without apprenticeship or license ? Can you get introuble for it ? I’m curious going to start looking soon for shops having apprentices
i take your advice with a grain of salt because you don't maintain a perpendicular angle of attack with the machine on the skin
The problem with dabbing instead of whiping is that I can't be sure that the line is perfect until I completely clean the area with soap and then I have to redo the lines..
Why are you lining at such a low voltage? I’ve been told 7-10 is the range but idk shit lol
Hey im a begginer here and i have these concern of everytime i start to tattoo the ink spreads alot and it gives me a hard time. Can you please give me an advice? Thank you in advance!
Bro, which needle is better for lining, standard Or bugpins?
i can line. i just need to get my hand steady again. my nerves are shot from my drug and alcohol addiction
Left my ink set in my car under the hot sun for like 2weeks :/ Can I still use it on people?
What voltage you run?? Your hand speed is about same as mine
Right, but your lines are shaky and not consistent.
Sorry
Thanks for a great video, I’ve decided you are my tattoo spirit guide, that slow and steady helps me every time. Great video great instruction. I usually have to multipass the first few lines of a piece but later in the process I single pass, you just ‘splained it for me ✌️
That’s awesome to hear Laura! And yes slow and steady it’s definitely the way to go but not always easy as I know for me I have to remind myself to slow down often. And I’m glad to see that you understand why you may have started one way in a tattoo an end it another way. Keep at it keep rockin and thank you again for the support🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘
Thank you again
No problem!!🤘
@@ArtSomething my cousin want a new tattoo on his calf. I do it next week. It will be my biggest tatoo for the moment. I draw it tonight. I hope he will like it. I did 10 tattoos at his time. This one will bel 11inch x 6 inches. :)
Really helping me for starting tat
What brand of carts are you using for the Bishop wand?
The cart used here was a quail cartridge
Great video very helpful.
Can you add the voltages your using
What voltage did you used
Circles are the hardest. IMO
Nice tattoo ma man.. Congrats!

Lol will do!! 🤘🤘
I used to use the quelle a lot but I have found lately that there are a lot of broken needles so I had to move on and unfortunately
Good to know Brandon thank you so far I haven’t had that issue but thanks for letting me know I’ll be on the lookout. 👍🙏🤘
How do you feel about 5 and 7 RM?
can u talk about your voltage dial in? where do you start and do you change throughout the tattoo.
For the most part voltage depends on the machine you’re using but a good place to start with most machines is around 7.5 V I find for the most part that works for most machines when looking for a general place to start when it comes to voltage. And yes I do change my voltage from time to time during a tattoo it also depends on The location of the tattoo if the lines aren’t going in the way I want them or I feel like I can move a bit faster I will up my voltage. And other times you can keep your voltage the same but maybe push your needles out a little further it’s a little back-and-forth to figure out what’s gonna work best and what area. I know it kind of sucks that there’s no direct answer but trying a little bit of each might help you find what works best for you. Thanks for watching I really appreciate the support and I wish you the best of luck keep rocking🤘🤘🤘
Very kool
I'm the same way,I don't believe in doing major lines. Personally I always think about it as a trip. You have to stop at stop signs, traffic lights. Don't go the highway full speed ahead. Long lines sometimes can cause spots in the the line. And worse case scenario you can go to deep. And going to deep is your pot hole. But great video Dave. Glad to see that you back on the scene.
That’s a great analogy king. And a really easy way to explain it. I believe it’s the potholes that get most, or at least the fear of potholes. Thanks again for the great analogy and support brother!! 🤘🤘🙏🤘🤘
