  • ( www.TFLcar.com ) The new 2013 Lexus GS 350 AWD and the new GS450h hybrid are at the forefront of redefining the Lexus brand as more sporty and less staid. But while the hybrid gets much better fuel economy it is also much more expensive. So of course we not only wanted to find out which of these two cars is the better buy, but perhaps more importantly which one is more sporty. In other words, which one is faster to 60 MPH. Check out this Mashup Review as we put the newest Lexus and Lexus Hybrid to the test.

it's not the 0-60 mph that is important. it is the 30-50 mph and 50-70 mph that are important because those are passing and merging speeds scenarios. the gs450 outperforms the gs350 at these accelerations

I drove both of these cars back to back, and there is a bit more magic with the 450h. It just feels nicer. Go ahead folks, drive them back to back and then comment. I'm buying this car over an equally priced BMW 535i.

i own the 2007 GS450h luxury , i can tell you that is better than any normal engine car in this class , combined luxury performance comfort equipment and safety , i want to forget normal cars that wear brakes a lot , wear clutches and gears , make a lot of noise for almost nothing and so on , and after 100k km you wait for alternator fail , starter fail , turbo on diesel fail , high pressure injectors fail etc . I own an VW and a Ford , maintenance cost is much more than diesel fuel savings

Really wish they would've kept the GS460, I wanna upgrade from mine, but the 350 didn't feel quite as quick, and the F is just too much right now

thats why they got rid of the 460, it didn't sell that well and it allows Lexus to mark up the F sport to get a V8 in the car. The 450H isn't a terrible compromise if your buying used since it deprecates sooooo much.

I most likely will be buying the 450h. On a side note thanks for doing what you do. I watch every one of your videos!!! I would love to meet you guys someday. Or maybe do a RUSH concert at Redrock. @deftgio for a car that weigh over 3000 lbs and can achieve 0-60 mph in 5.5 sec @ sea level, with 300 flywheel HP is respectable.

    • @yadidimeanmaine
      @yadidimeanmaine 10 років тому

The car is actually closer to 4,000 lbs with the hybrid weighing in at well over 4,000. Very impressive, indeed. With those kind of numbers I'd expext to see a couple of tiny turbines under hood but it's NA to boot. I think they may be fibbing a bit about the power output. My guess is it's around 300 in economy mode, but higher in sport mode.

    5MPG is a big difference.
You know what gets 5MPG less than a stock GS350h? A 4-cyl compact car, that's what. Compared to a 4-cyl compact car, GS450h is way quicker, and has more trunk space.
If you take that into account, that extra $8000 is worth it in spades.
Besides.. don't people pay $8000 more for engine option anyway? Look at C250 compared to a C350. There is more than $8000 gap there, and C350 uses more fuel than C250... at least GS450h gives you some savings compared to GS350.

But is slower. And is a lighter car.
Point of GS450h isn't about absolute fuel economy. It is still pushing around a big sedan (one that is heavier than a V6 Accord, with all the luxuries on board).
The point is to enhance the already excellent V6 by making it quicker, AND give fuel economy savings at the same time. Just about any time you up the power in the same car, you give up fuel economy. GS450h does the opposite of that.
You know what other car does that?
    Accord Hybrid.

Ya'lls large following and views speak for themselves. You do a good job, and are obviously doing something right. I especially appreciate when you good cop/bad cop a car because I sometimes see cars I like through overly rose-tinted glasses. One point in favor of the 450H; as the owner of a V6 hybrid(Highlander), proper technique can net up to 10 or more extra mpg depending on your commute. I regularly average 35 city/32hwy in a 4500lb 7-pass CUV rated 27/25. Could likely see 40MPG in the 450H.

You are right! I have the 2007 first model and with Goodyear wheels and sport mode I did it in 5.2 , 5.3, and 5.5 seconds. The fact is that it mostly accerelates very constantly and because of the weight in the back mostly without wheelspin (even in a super sports car you need a really good start to be faster :)
So how in hell is it possible to need 7.2 or more in this newer model??

The GS350 feels a hair more lively around the bends and (I think) that's what makes him enjoy the non-hybrid more. I think he ate paint-chips as a kid too.
