Good ideas for saving space. Every time I watch one of your video where you walk around the garden and shows us things, I rush out to my garden and try to squeeze one more plant in somewhere. I am just always impressed by how many plants you squeeze into the space you have. Thanks for always inspiring me!
Me too! I'm like that! Lots of flowers on my patio in pots, apt living, the city life but got a great view fr the third floor of trees and wild turkeys and ducks down below on groung! A big tree by me and watch the birds thats why you can't wait till spring! I'm Mich! Bummer now lots of snow! Hate snow but it has its perpose. Grow veggies in pots also.

As with the other untold millions suddenly planting Covid Victory Gardens I am late to the party but eager to learn. I've got one 20' x 4' raised bed and have planted a bunch of seeds with no clue what to do next. Your trellesing options are terrific.
Some really good tips here. Thanks. Here's one for you ... if you can find wire fencing with approximately 4" openings (instead of chicken wire), you'll be able to harvest your crops on either side of your trellis.
Great idea to use white wire shelves for support, I have few of those in a basement. Now I know to use wooden stakes to keep them upright, thank you so much!

I LOVE your videos and ideas!! I'm a nursing student on a tight budget- love all these ideas!! Thank you for sharing your videos, have some cucumbers at the same stage as yours and we will be doing the vertical poles for sure!
I always use your idea as reference. Thank you! My Japanese pumpkin, green color, are growing vertically on 7' high trellis wildly! I split 1x2x8 (98c ) into two and use them trellis vertical support and circle 4' wide chicken wire and stack horizontally between trellis. Work great ! Barry

I used chicken wire at our last house for cucumbers and found that the cucumbers would go.through the holes then get bigger and get stuck in the chicken wire. I had to really watch them. But of course, I missed a few and harvesting those was always an adventure. 😊

I am soooo grateful for this video. I'm just getting my summer crops growing. I have access to bamboo so I'm going to use the free bamboo instead of the wood from HD, but the chicken wire idea is great too. I can see how I can continue to grow leafy greens underneath due to the shade as well!
hello Gary ! l love growing vertically as I got very little space so I use arches, obelisk, canes frames trellis and pretty much anything else I can get !! thanks for sharing and happy gardening !!
thank you for this video because I've never grown anything in my life and when I picked up my seeds I had no idea what I was doing and just got ones that I like to eat 🤦🏻♀️and I already germinated all the seeds with growing lights and pots and everything is doing so well and I'm starting to plant everything in my little garden space I made. It's about 15 feet long 4 ft wide. Lol. I thought it would be plenty of space, that I could grow everything in square feet. Then I learned that pretty much everything I chose gets very large and takes up a ton of space. there's no way after all the time and energy and money I put in so far that I will give up so I needed a solution and a have to trellis everything because I'm not going to let all this go to waste. I have cucumbers, squash, zucchini, beefsteak tomatoes, dwarf tomatoes, Iroquois cantaloupe, and sugar baby watermelon. Now I do have 4 tomato cages so I can use those for the tomatoes and the zucchini, and squash. but I do need two of them for the tomatoes so I'm still going to need for the cucumbers and then I need something sturdier for the watermelon and the cantaloupe so that's where I needed to figure out how I'm going to do it.
They really work well. Please check out my seed shop for neem oil, peppermint oil, rosemary oil, sprayers, calcium nitrate for blossom end rot, seeds, seed starting supplies and more. www.therustedgarden.com

If 2 bucks for post is not cost effective, limbs work well. The bark really holds vines well. Oak is wonderful and will make good food to an active composting garden bed as they offer year after year nutrition to the soil an plants to follow.

Thanks for some great ideas..trying to start a garden this year again after taking last year off. Looking to make it more productive and well rounded as far as selection.
A lot of good ideas here. I have cucumbers, zucchini and beans coming up now. I'll use a couple of these, thanks. BTW, that fake owl and live trap won't do you much good. The birds like to poop on the owl and the squirrels that dig up my garden apparently know it's a trap and will not go near it. However, if you leave it set at night, you will catch possums.
Thanks. The owl was retired. Please Visit The Rusted Garden Seed & Garden Shop: www.therustedgarden.com/ - Seeds, Starting Supplies, Neem Oil, Peppermint & Other Oils, Calcium Nitrate & More

I've used branches trimmed from the yard to make the teepees. They will rot after a year or two, and can be burned for ashes when no longer useful. This stems from an old European practice known as 'coppicing.' David S Carolina
Great video Gary!!! Have you tried using concrete reinforcement wire as a trellis support? It is reasonably inexpensive and you can buy it in lengths of 5 foot wide and cut it to the length you need. I have used it in the past as tomato cages.

I like to use those poles also but I screw them to T-posts. I sink the metal in the ground and the wood never goes in the ground and they last a lot longer. The metal poles never go bad. I am glad I watched this I just made two wood trellises with some nice extra wood and wondering if it was efficient for my cucumbers and scallop squash. Very nice.. thanks

This was great, I planted seeds on the 4th and now the are big enought to go in bigger containers. The problem is it's not time to plant them outside. I was just experimenting. So I will be repotting them into 5 gallond buckets but I'm afraid to put them outside cause I'm in zone 8a in south carolina and we are still having colder weather. Should I keep them indoors in the buckets or what

Good ideas for saving space. Every time I watch one of your video where you walk around the garden and shows us things, I rush out to my garden and try to squeeze one more plant in somewhere. I am just always impressed by how many plants you squeeze into the space you have. Thanks for always inspiring me!
I know I keep squeezing in stuff then I dig a new bed.
I would have three patios if I could and grow,grow,grow!/love it! Its work, but good for me! I enjoy your shows and learning a lot!
Also try tower gardening and shelf gardening in the yards.
Do you grow the kids on the trampoline trelise?
Gardening is something I love doing

As with the other untold millions suddenly planting Covid Victory Gardens I am late to the party but eager to learn. I've got one 20' x 4' raised bed and have planted a bunch of seeds with no clue what to do next. Your trellesing options are terrific.
Some really good tips here. Thanks. Here's one for you ... if you can find wire fencing with approximately 4" openings (instead of chicken wire), you'll be able to harvest your crops on either side of your trellis.
I think part of the beauty of the chicken wire is that the fruit stays inside the fencing, protected. A squirrel could squeeze through a 2x4 opening.
Great idea to use white wire shelves for support, I have few of those in a basement. Now I know to use wooden stakes to keep them upright, thank you so much!
They work well and you can keep an eye out for them at thrift stores and yard sales.

Such a lovly garden....

Bamboo is great to use.
hello Gary ! l love growing vertically as I got very little space so I use arches, obelisk, canes frames trellis and pretty much anything else I can get !! thanks for sharing and happy gardening !!
Sounds like you maximized your space.
thank you for this video because I've never grown anything in my life and when I picked up my seeds I had no idea what I was doing and just got ones that I like to eat 🤦🏻♀️and I already germinated all the seeds with growing lights and pots and everything is doing so well and I'm starting to plant everything in my little garden space I made.
Cosmo Dawn that’s a lot of plants for a small space. Pick a few of your absolute favorites and focus on them. Good luck and enjoy.

I've used branches trimmed from the yard to make the teepees.
They will rot after a year or two, and can be burned for ashes when no longer useful.
This stems from an old European practice known as 'coppicing.'

Should I keep them indoors in the buckets or what
Experimenting is good. Just take notes!
