Disney is known to change fairytales to give them happy endings and make them a little more cheerful since so many of them have disturbing, dark origins. So let's compare Tangled with the original Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm in today's story time with bad illustrations.

I have the Grimm’s Complete Fairy Tails and it says that she said, “Mother Gothel, how is it that you climb up here so slowly, and the King’s son is with me in a moment?” So I have heard that she was pregnant and then had the kids but I also just read that she said that and then had the kids. So I guess it’s either way?🤔
The Brothers Grimm changed it in their ultimated edition. Originally, it is very clearly hinted that Rapunzel was pregnant. In the later version Rapunzel says "you are much heavier to pull up than the King's son". Of course, Rapunzel gets the children later, so she clearly had to be pregnant, also it is not any more hinted.
The original Rapunzel fairytale is a mix of Tangled and the Barbie film version! 😱💕
It’s funny how many versions there are of fairy tales. I heard there are 58 versions of little red riding hood 🤔

I haven’t heard a lot of the original fairy tale stories, but I did hear about the little red riding hood story. 😐 that one was dark

The desert and the blind prince remind me more of the retelling in The Lunar Chronicles.

this is EXACTLY how I was told the story from my mother. She never sugar coated any fairytales: including this one, Cinderella and Red Rose and Snow White " this is an actual story)
The flowers are actually called racumplus but that's where the name rapunzel comes from

In a show called Grimm’s fairytale classics the mother of Rapunzel manipulated her husband into getting her the lettuce.
My mum always read the Grimm fairytales to me when I was a child ☺️

In the version I read as a kid they had triplets two girls and a boy named Lettuce, Sprout, and Pumpkin

hi sarah! so i need help with my hair... i only wash my hair once a week, i use ZERO heat in my hair, i’m gentle when brushing it, my parents won’t let me do any hair masks/ remedies, and other stuff like that. i’ve done so much research on hair growth hacks and watched lots of youtube videos(some are yours) and i do all of those things but my hair isn’t growing very fast. i’ve been doing it for about three months and i’ve seen no progress. i’m kind of impatient which doesn’t help it lol. so what can i do to help my hair grow faster??

I really enjoy the Chinese version of Cinderella (Yeh Xian). I was such a big fan of Cinderella (the European fairytale and the Disney film), but I was always bummed out because none of the princesses looked like me and I believed (as a kid) that I would never be able to be a princess. As I got older, I enjoyed Mulan, but I wanted more. I decided to do some research, and I found Yeh Xian, which is one of the oldest Cinderella stories to date. The story is so beautiful and romantic and it makes me feel like someone like me is worthy of being a princess.

When you are doing your princessing for kiddy parties, do you ever tell them G-rated versions of these fairy tales? You should! I'd pay to attend just to see all the expressions. If you had a professional videographer record these story times, you could make DVDs and sell them to all the kids' parents.

This was a VERY good video Sarah! I loved hearing you recap the original story of Rapunzel. I knew some of it ... but yeah, I didn’t realize how dark it was! Yikes! I love Tangled and I definitely like Disney’s version better. I think they did a great job taking elements from the original story but keeping it a story that is friendly for kids to watch and made HER the princess so Rapunzel could be an official “Disney Princess.” 👑💜☀️ Love it! 💖 Have you heard that Disney has a live action Rapunzel movie I’m the works? Although I don’t think it’s going to be called Tangled. It looks like right now the working title is just Rapunzel. So people are questioning if it’s even going to be a Tangled live action remake or not. Maybe it’ll be a NEW retelling of the story of Rapunzel in live action! I guess we will find out sooner or later. 😊 How do you feel about Disney doing a live action Rapunzel movie?

UH UH UH, GIRL... YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD "SPANISH CANTARES" (CANTARES Plural, CANTAR singular... i know that "cantar" mean SING in english... but is BOTH "Sing" and "Singed storie")
one pretty famous is "La flor de la lila" (the flower of Lilac, is weird because it is "La flor lila" Or "the Lilac flower" but... maybe in the ANTIQUE SPANISH that sentce is correct IDK)
in VEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERY SHORT,
there was 3 brothers, their mother was ill, she is going to die, and a doctor said it will be cured with the FLOWER OF THE LILAC...
the brothers goes to find that "Precious flower" and their father giives them a bread to every child.
the old one pass close to an older woman, she said "you have something to eat? i've been hungry for days" he said NO (so he lied)
the middle one pass, and also said NO
then the LITTLE BROTHER PASSES CLOSE TO THE OLD WOMAN, and he said yes, "You will need it more than i"
THE OLD WOMAN ¡¡TRANFORM!! INTO THE PRETIEST YOUNG WOMEN OF ALL (she was a witch, obvious)
and tell the little BECAUSE OF YOUR PURE HEART I WILL TELL YOU WHERE THE FLOWER IS.
is on the top of "this" mountain AND ONLY YOU WILL FIND IT.
the little boy run to say his brother the "Secret" and fast as the wind they ran to that mountain...
the time passes and passes, nobody found a single flower, so they decided to came back home.
is then WHEN THE LITTLE BROTHER FOUNDS THE FLOWER.
because ALL wanted to give the flower to their mother (And look like heroes) ¡¡¡¡¡KILL THE LITTLE BROTHER WITH WITH A KNIFE!!!!! (so, family friendly, yikes)
so both brothers promise to never tell anybody, take the flower, DROP THE KID THRUOGHT THE TALLEST PART OF THE MOUNTAIN and run to home
they came and said that the little has been killed by A BEAR.. all family cry, but accept it, was his fate... no one could do anything now.
the YEARS passes until a "seller" came SELLING FLUTES MADE OF... ¡¡BONES!!! (So friendly everything)
the mother WITH DEPRESION, saw it "Cute" (don't ask me why) and the father looking her smile BOUGHT 4 OF THEM.
when...
HERE COMES THE DARKNESS.
when the father START PLAYING THE FLUTE... it DON'T PLAYS A MELODY, INSTEAD... ¡¡IT SINGS!!
"Don't play daddy, and don't stop playing me, because my brother has killed me for the flower of the lilac"
SURPRISED (¡¡¡¿How NOT?!!! the flute MADE OF BONES ¡¡¡SINGS!! AND IS YOUR dead son ¡¡¡HOW NOT TO BE SURPRISED!!!)
WITH HUNGER AND QUESTIONING IT... FORCES BOTH SONS TO PLAY hteir flutes.
AND NOW THEY SING: "DON'T PLAY ME BROTHER AND DON'T STOP PLAYING ME, BECAUSE YOU WAS THE FIRST TO STAB ME WITH THE KNIIFE"
The middle one also plays it and said the SAME but instead of the first IT SAID THE SECOND to stab him
THEN THE FATHER GOERES TOTALLY CRAZY KILL HIS SONS IN REVENGE AND THEN HIMSELF
(Happy ending YAY ¬¬)

and are EVEN DARKER, like the "Poor farmer" (el pobre granjero)
short, he was on a travel for work and came when his wive have do a "Soup" that was his son and his tonge start singing (Why are all body part singing in spain? is weird)
and confess what happened, his step mom, has killed him and serve him has "soup"
¿Pretty short, right?
and... ASK MORE PEOPLE FROM SPAIN about these "Lullabys" everybody have heard them (^.^)

Swiss here, German speaking. Thank you! Finally someone who actually researched 🙈 some videos out there claim the Italian fable to be the Grimm Version and it makes my blood boil everytime. And actually fairytales the classic folktales (not Christian Andersen’s his were „literary“ fairy tales) all had Happy Ends, for the heroes ofc… it’s actually a requirement for a story to be classified as fairytale at least everywhere I’ve read and from what I learned during studying in Uni. But might be wrong there.
