What I’ve always done is run one 16/4 and one Cat-6 together to a single gang box in each zone then 16/4 to speaker one and 16/2 from speaker one over to speaker two. This way you’re covered whether you choose a simple inline volume control or a keypad.
Correct. 16/4 from Amplifier to Volume Control, (1)16/2 from the volume control to each speaker. But really it's the same thing right? 16/4 is just (2)16/2 in the same jacket. You could run one 16/4 the whole way and make it work, but if you're DIYing it, it seems to make more sense when you install speakers and volume controls if you use the 16/2
Hey answered on the other thread, but for any reading here - Thomas you obviously have Sonos, but I'd also take a look at VSSL. Pricing is going to be similar, but what I like about VSSL is it's all Airplay and Chrome cast, so no need to open an app. Just stream from whatever music App you have open, ie Apple Music, Spotify, etc. If you need a source we can help.
Great videos, so is there a "standard" when it comes to the # of speakers x's the size of the room? Or will usually 2 ceiling (or 2 wall) speakers suffice for just about any room size scenario, minus a theater.
Adam Lewand they’re usually specific to the brand and model of audio system you purchase. I’ve used Russound, Nuvo, and Autonomic all with good luck. I know there’s many others, but those are ones we’ve seen a lot and had good luck with. Control4, Savant, Crestron, RTI etc all have touchscreens that can also be used for the volume control.
Apple2 Tech really won’t need to terminate it. You’ll run the 16/4 into the speaker terminals on the amp, and on the speaker side into the speaker. If you’re running a 16/2 jumper to a second spkr you’ll use wire nuts to splice the 16/2 into 2 of the 16/4 to take the signal all the way to the second speaker
Zachary Baker no need for electrical box it’s low voltage so just put the connection in the ceiling above the speakers. We usually just use wire nuts like electricians use. Makes it easy. And you can just run 2 16/2 - 1 for each spkr if you’re more comfortable with that approach
dude. you rock. this video is clear, concise, and with visual aid. keep doing what you're doing!
Thanks man appreciate it!

For the in-line volume control; do you run the 16/4 from the amplifier and two 16/2 to each speaker?

How would you wire a 5.1 surround?

Do you recommend any digital volume controller brands over others?

All of these audio systems don't seem to be DYI. Can you recommend any good DYI systems and what are your thoughts on them? Thanks.
How do you wire 4 speakers in 1 zone and how do those connect back to the amp?
How do I terminate the 16/4? Sorry, I'm new to all of this!

@@SmartHomeBrothersGotcha! Thanks for the reply!
Good
Thanks for watching our video. Let us know what questions you have about wiring for Home Audio, or anything else in the Smart Home
How would you recommend connecting the 16/4 to the 16/2? And does the connection need to be inside of an electrical box?
