My husband and I went to Europe, we went to Salzburg, Hallstatt, Munich, Paris, Brussels and Ghent... And I have to say if I had to go back somewhere it will be Ghent in a heart beat! I wish I could move there, specially in Old Medieval Ghent. The people there are by far the nicest people we came across in our trip and the food is delicious. I am completely obsessed with Ghent, I always tell people to go there when they travel to nearby cities, so so lovely!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know of a way to log back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot the password. I would appreciate any tips you can offer me.
Ghent is a university city. Most all of the Belgian students go home on weekends and holidays, so there are very few people in the city then, except a few foreign students. When I was foreign student there, the foreign students all got to know each other on the weekends, because we had the city to ourselves and would see each other around the city while the Belgians were away.
@@andrebernardo4501 I liked it. I was in Antwerp for one year before I went to Ghent and Antwerp is the second largest harbor in Europe, after Rotterdam. In Antwerp I didn't stay in student housing and it was a bit dangerous to walk at night, so I didn't get to know many students. Ghent as a university city was great. Many Belgian students kept to themselves though. I originally went there for 3 months and ended up staying in Ghent for 3 years! I stayed in student a residence and got to know a few Belgians and many foreign students.
late reply about the bottled water. Normal supermarkets or grocery shops in Belgium are only open until 20h-20h30. Clothing stores like H&M, Primark, etc are open until 19h (those hours are for big cities, anywhere else it is closed at 18h). Anything open beyond that point are called "night shops", basically shops that are meant for 'emergencies' or where students buy their cigs and alcohol when going out. The people keeping those stores sell the goods from supermarkets 4x more expensive, since they are open after normal working hours. People also don't really buy water, everyone drinks tap water, even in the city.
Shops normally close around 18:00 or 18:30. Supermarkets around 20:00. After those hours you're only choice are nightshops, and they charge between 30 to 50% more. Nice series on BE though, glad you enjoyed it!
to be fair, everything in Belgium is expensive, the truth is that we have far to many, and far to high taxes, the truth is that we have more ministers (for americans that is like secretaries) than france, probably even more than in the US, in fact Brussels has more public officials than New York, and it costs the taxpayer a shitload, and the exit bonusses for politicians here are downright criminal, 150000+ and their pensions, even for lower politicians often go over 6000 euros, that is for mayors and parliament representatives, even if they were only in office for a few months man, i might leave one day, there is no way to compete (add to that that they do make it a Paradise for super corporations like apple, they pay what 0.5% income taks, less?
Yeah nightshops.. The owners shop in the same store as we do but then sells it x3 or x4. I think they are taxed a lot and the arent a chain so location costs too ( being nice towards them cause i never understood why it's that expensive)
About the price for the water,I guess it was tourist area prises or a night shop. You can always drink water from the tap, it is free of charge and the quality is the same as water in a bottle.
Wow, looks like you had awesome weather! Lucky you! Great that you are loving it! I’m heading there in October and can’t wait! I’m interested if you have been to Bruges, and if so, how would you compare the 2 places? I adored Bruges and can’t wait to explore Ghent as well. Safe travels and cheers from Australia!
Loving your Belgium videos! I was supposed to go this summer for the first time but we realized that we were trying to do to many countries. Will definitely put it on the list for this fall!
Thanks so much for this. I was thinking of booking trip but not sure until I saw this. Really appreciate the effort. We are off for 4 days with friends for New Years! Thanks again :)
In Belgium water is much more expensive (+72%) than in France because of the taxes we dont have in France. There is one in the plastic and another one on the pique-nique stuff (things that you can throw away). Actually, à grandmother got a ticket in the border cos she bought 630 bottles in France ! Ahaha). Now you know Luke ;)
Went there in June 2018. Found it similar to Bruges but more hectic. I think the fact it was like almost summer encouraged a lot of people to be in Ghent at the time. I definitely preferred Bruges (June 2015). But it is interesting that You saw lots of interesting shoes. Those are moments in themselves. Cool Vlog!!
Oat day long! So damn good ! I go there once a week . If you like to try oatmeal in a interesting and inspiring way you should definitely go try it I’ve called “oat day long”
ghanwin Am from Belgium and Bruges is so over rated, its beautiful but indeed crowded and all touristy , Ghent is a good balance of touristy things and authenticity.
Bruges is somewhat a tourist trap. Yes, it is pretty, but the city center is really swamped with tourists. Ghent is often overlooked, and thus a bit more autentic if you really want to feel the vibe of a city.

nightshops are super expensive, but Belgium is just expensive overall, (honestly that is part of the reason why we should split into flanders and wallonia, or just become a confederacy)

Born and raised in Belgium. I still go to Ghent to just chill and walk around. Something about that city that just calms my nerves whenever i need it.
BNN 66 hi I’d like to please ask what’s living in Belgium like?

True you could buy a 5€ bottle of wine in the supermarket and find it priced at 15€ in the nightshop 😂

Yup, Ghent it is then ! From all the videos I've watched on youtube, Bruges seems more crowded.

Where do they charge that much for a bottle of water? In a hotel maybe. Go to a supermarket !!!
Marc Van den Broecke he said in the small stores that are open at night a "night store" probably everything costs more in those stores
Thank you
Why not just fill the bottle from the tap? That would you set back around 70 cents per 1000 litres.
because is not safe do drink tap water, i wouldnt
