This dude in the middle with the hat is or dumb or was patronizing the maestro all the time like a baby, his tone is arrogant and face expressions were fake and dumb!!!
I remember turning up to a rehearsal with an old band of mine back in the early '00s, with my band mates already set up, and none other than Mr Pratt standing next to the bass stack. I almost had kittens. He joked that I thought I'd been replaced (and who could blame my bandmates!), but it turns out he'd popped down to listen to our material, as he'd been asked to produce a demo for us, by Steve O'Rourke (Pink Floyd's then manager), who was the uncle of our singer, and managing us at the time. It was surreal, going from learning about him in Bass Player magazine, and loving his records to seeing him face to face. He was a complete gent. Bought me a Guinness after our session, and likened my playing to Jah Wobble. A treasured memory. Thanks Guy!
He's a funny guy and very honest and fair. He seems the guy to talk smack and have a good laugh, then actually help and share his own experiences for encouragement. Also John Entwistle! Guy must be protected at all costs.
Sharing my "story" with Guy Pratt. Lisbon 1994, Pink Floyd went to do 2 concerts. I went to the 2nd with my parents. I was a 13 year old short boy, and I was lucky enough to be on the front of the crowd, with my arms resting on the barriers, with Guy in front of me playing the bass. At some point he realised there was a child (me) in there, and I remember he smiled at me some times. I believe he was happy to see a child enjoying the show. Well, the concert was amazing, as expected, but what I most remember is what came at the end of the show. When the band was receiving the applauses and thanking the crowd, Nick Mason threw a song allignment sheet, it bounced in someone's head, and my mom picked it up. Mr. Guy Pratt threw me a bass pick, that fell into the pit, where the stewards were. So a steward noticed a pick falling, picked it up, and placed in his pocket. As the pick wasn't for him, Guy Pratt started yelling so he delivered the pick to me, but he ignored and kept it. So, the story I tell everyone about my 1994 Pink Floyd concert, was that their bassist was a nice guy, threw me a pick, and the steward kept it. Almost 30 years had passed but that memory remains very fresh. Now I look back and smile, but at the time, you can imagine that it left me very sad. Well, and that was my "story" with Guy Pratt...
I think if we can make yours the top comment, there’s a good chance he might be made aware of this video and replace it for you. Never know. You might get hooked up with something better than a pic. Or even if he were to post a reply would be kind of cool.
I was just about to say this EXACT thing!! How awesome and laugh out loud funny is Guy Pratt? And he got me listening to some of my favorite songs from when I was growing up, but with the full bass-heavy high quality audio and headphones experience! I'm beyond happy right now! Thank you for this guys, truly!
The Clock is the bass?! THE CLOCK IS THE BASS!! MIND BBBBLOWN! This interview with the legendary Mr. Pratt was simply fantastic on every level. What a wonderful group repartee. Thank you all for this most friendly, humorous, lively, presentation.
Guy Pratt for more of his stories, enthusiasm and general greatness... you realise you have barely scratched the surface...there must be a million stories of his times with Icehouse, Pink Floyd, Toy Matinee, Robbie Robertson, Jimmy Nail and many others... I would like a part 2 please.
There's only one thing wrong with this interview, it isn't long enough but thanks a million for doing it because Guy is so listenable talking bass with you both.
I came into Pink Floyd through Delicate Sound of Thunder, and Guy Pratt was right there. What a legend! And to find out where else he has contributed to music was amazing! Well done, sir! Great interview.
Absolutely, Guy Pratt is a legendary bassist, and it's fantastic to see his contributions celebrated! 🎸🌟 Thanks for tuning in and enjoying the interview! 🤘🎶
I met Guy randomly in a music shop in Brisbane ... I actually mentioned how awesome his vocal was in Run and he said "oh cheers mate, most people don't give me credit for my singing" Guy is 😅 one of the most talented yet coolest of humans that I've ever met ... And now you guys get the full story..crazy!
Omg guys... this show was an absolute dream! You discussed and gave stories on some of my favorite basslines ever. Get Pino and Geddy here, and I can die a happy man. THANK YOU for everything you're doing. It's pure magic.
Loved Guy’s work with Pink Floyd, his playing on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, Division Bell and Pulse are definitely some of the best rock bass playing of the late 80s/90s and he just seems like such a nice dude as well
Through family connections I knew the guitar tech Mike Clement who sadly passed away last November, he was guitar tech for a few luminaries, Tony Iommi, Nile Rogers, Dweezil Zappa and a few more, but he also did tech work for Guy when he was on tour with Dave Gilmour. Mike had nothing but nice things to say about Guy and this interview proves what Mike told me. What a fascinating bloke and an easy style. More of Guy please! RIP Mike, you made life better in so many ways ❤️
@@guypratt7104 Hey, Guy. I just wanted to say thank you for all of your amazing work through the years, but especially for Toy Matinee. It is in my top 5 list of favorite albums. I remember playing it in my architectural design studio in college and within a week 5 people went out and bought the CD.
This is the best bass player interview I've seen in... ever. Guy Pratt... I salute you. And well done to you Scott's Bass Lessons people for getting this on.
I love the "Like a Prayer" story. This was news to me: I swore I thought Randy Jackson played bass on that song and a lot of other Madonna hits. And Guy's right: the bass was smoking though still beautifully locked with great "bends" though absolutely no cliches without sounding off the groove. "Like a Prayer" is literally a masterpiece and Guy gave it exactly what it needed.
@@NoName-fo7mz The music industry used to get that right - that the "pop stars" of the day went into studios and the musicianship of the session players, the engineers, the songwriters - the level was so high that masterpieces could be produced. I believe artists are still making masterpieces though the industry was so stuffed with cash everyone could do "one" job instead of twelve.
People talk a lot about the vamp at the end of "Like A Prayer", which IS super cool no question. But I'd like people to listen to his bass lines over the bridge. The setup leading into the vamp is just as good as the vamp itself! Great interview!
Guy's enthusiasm for his craft is so infectious. What a raconteur, recalling stories rrom such legendary sessions & gigs. The vibe btwn the 3 of you is wonderful.
I'm a guitarist - 4mins into the interview I'm totally hooked!! Will be setting aside proper time to indulge in watching the whole thing. Great interactions between you guys - & I can't wait to hear the stories from the legend who is Guy Pratt.
Bass players interviewing bass players .....the way it should be. Plus you add Scott and Ian's giddy fanboy excitement and you have some of the best interviews ever. Love hearing the behind the scenes and the formation of some of the great songs of bass is awesome! Thanks guys for some incredible content.
such a great format and so glad that you featured Guy Pratt 🙌. His lines on Like a Prayer have always blown my mind and to hear the stories directly from him was perfect. So many bass players you could feature, but 2 off the top of my head would be Doug Wimbish & Lee Sklar. Keep up the amazing content!
That was highly enjoyable. Really found the part about working with Madonna interesting. I always assumed every note was written out for things like that.
Guy Pratt is a MASSIVE talent. I found out about him back in the early 90s when he was with Floyd. For years, I just thought of him as being associated with Pink Floyd. About 10 years ago I started to discover all of the amazing stuff he's played on and I was just blown away.
I am so extraordinarily unwell today, but this video just picked me right up. Thankyou, and I hope it goes well enough for you that you choose to do more!
Such an amazing format, agree that having Ian and Sharon onboard along Scott elevates the show. Love the long format, the production and photography and of course, knowing more about the great Mr Pratt. Keep sprinkling a bit of banter, fun and challenges! Looking forward to the next one!
OMG! Best interview ever. It was like sitting around in the basement on your couch talking to your idols. I was on the edge of my seat, the whole time. Absolutely fantastic work, and as a huge fan of Top Gear, that was the best “ Star in a reasonably priced car” challenge for a bass player. Epic!
Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant. I'm 70, played guitar for many years, just starting to play bass, after watching this not sure if I'm inspired or think maybe I should give up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love hearing his interviews... not for the musician, otherwise I would sit and hear his music, but for the person behind the bass... clearly a great company for all sort of chats
Loved the entire interview! Kept me riveted. The 'bonus' question during the string change challenge was a killer to throw in while under stress. "Which was Leo Fender's favorite bass to play? The jazz bass or the P bass.... He didn't play bass!" And Leo didn't ever play the guitar. He actually played saxophone and had at one time dabbled in piano.
We're thrilled you enjoyed the interview! The bonus question was a fun twist - just goes to show, the world of bass always has its surprises. Keep on rockin' those bass adventures! 🎶🎸
Hi Scott and company, Thank you so much for bringing Mr Pratt to your channel to share his extroadinary work. I must have bought and watched that pink Floyd VHS and DVD many times and remember thinking about that young Bass player performing and singing as he really stood out to me. Now to hear him talk so humbly about what this tour was like for him along with his work with other artists was so dazzling and inspiring. Your Marcus Miller video also comes to mind as for most of us the chance to meet these guys or hear them speak so openly is both treasured and appreciated. You are doing a great job and I hope you continue to bring in and interview more of these gifted musicians who really are the reason why many of us own and play a bass. Ok this is a huge dream but I would love to see you interview Sir Paul about his love for and playing bass. I know you can do it!!
I've always been interested in guitars and guitarists but Guy Pratt is the first bassist ever to gain my attention. My parents used to thrash their vhs copy of Pink Floyd's live Delicate sound of thunder and to this day I still prefer the live version of On the turning away over the studio version because of the fear of missing out on Pratt's monster bass in all its glory. Also I'm glad to learn about the Rockontuers podcast, I'll definitely be checking that out.
He's genius. I wholeheartedly recommend his auto-biography book. Not only educational but also hilarious as heck. Thanks for the interview, really enjoyed it!
What an absolutely brilliant interview - probably the best I’ve seen between musicians - ever! Love Guy Pratt and his work/craft/art. Just wonderful. Thank you all three 😎 ‘67 Fender Jazz 🎸

Hey, we'd LOVE to know who else you'd like us to get on the show! Leave a quick comment below... and we'll try our hardest to make it happen for you! :)
What a fantastic interview! I absolutely loved every second of it. Guy Pratt has such a rich history and the perfect personality to share it. Thank you for this, SBL! Ian and Scott are an amazing team.
More more MORE of this please! Hugely entertaining, Guy is a great storyteller and of course one of the best bassists around. Hats off fellas, Mark King next…? 😊
I don't even play bass but I found all this fascinating (I do try to play the guitar). Guy Pratt is a great raconteur and guest and amazing bass player.I must have seen him several times with post-Waters PF, as well as Gilmour and Nick Mason's Saucer. Just subscribed to his podcast on the strength of this. Thanks!
I remember many many years ago when I saw Guy for the first time on the Pulse tour video, my first reaction was ''Who the hell is this goofy looking- red headed little snot nose kid??? But he sure can play...''. And with this 1 hour video, I just came to realize that all those cool bass lines I dug years ago (which I thought were synth), were actually Guy with an octave pedal...Mind Blown. Great job here Scott. Thanks...And many thanks to you Guy for bringing me so much enjoyment for 35 years.
Loved this guys. Fantastic interview. I am so impressed to hear yet another 'rockstar' musician who feel nervous about a performance or realize the need to develop. Encouraging news for us mere mortals. BTW, Guy is hilariously funny, especially @58:15 "...does it need to go in the goal, or can it go over the goal?" I'm still smiling over that one. Thanks SBL Team.
A few months ago I didn’t know anything about Guy Pratt, besides his name. He’s since became one of my favorite people in the music scene, I’ve been bingeing the podcast as well. What a lovely man.
Fantastic! "You've got to always be a fan." Best advice ever. Way beyond technique and ability. Never stop being a fan. Never stop being amazed. Awesome.
Great stories and amazing bass playing! Love that Octaved sound - killer tone all around, actually. Just wanna say that Delicate Sound of Thunder is still a favorite of mine when it comes to live albums and concert videos, even in 2023 it's an amazing show. Laughed my ass off through most of this too - great interview! Thank you to all involved for making this possible, can't wait to see the next one!
Guy Pratt is just amazing. He comes across as amazingly unpretentious and down to earth. He sounds like someone who'd spend ages chatting to you if you ever met him.
Awesome interview!! Have loved Guy’s playing since I heard him on Delicate Sound of Thunder! You should interview Steve Harris. Not in the same vein as Guy but I think he took the bass in a whole new direction.
I had the honor to record Guy lay down a bass line for a Diana Ross song. Not only he was the amazing musician we all expected, but he was also incredibly kind, quick witted and thanked us to have invited him to the studio rather than sending him the file and letting him record at his home studio. It goes to show how important musicianship is to him, rather than pure technical ability.
Back in my Artist Relations days I spent several a week with the incredibly Delightful and Bassilicious Guy Pratt and Pink Floyd. As this would have been in the Mid 80's his Burgundy Mist bass was considerably less , let's say, "Tattered" than it is today. At that time I was the AR guy for MTD, Steinberger, Spector, EMG, SWR and several other small Companies. It was the first time that I had seen a Burgundy Mist Bass and in 1989 when I went to work for Fender we were getting the Relic Series pieces built by Vince Cunetto in his shop in Tennessee. He built "Believable Relics", not the "Heavy Relic" Turds produced today. I was fortunate enuff to get 1 of 2 Jazz Bass Relics Vince sent Fender. What Color? Burgundy Mist!!! 💜 I stumbled across this video purely by Chance and can't thank you enuff for featuring Guy......an absolute Monster Bass Player and a Total Gentleman. Many Thanks for being You, Guy. 🙏
Great podcast folks . My favourite format so far . Mike Watt. - Minutemen , Iggy and the Stooges. Norman Watt Roy. -Block Heads - Wilco Johnson Gerald Casale - Devo Pino Paladino - Everyone Les Claypool - Primus So many more

Hey, we'd LOVE to know who else you'd like us to get on the show! Leave a quick comment below... and we'll try our hardest to make it happen for you! :)
I know there's a lot of good names to bring in next but Justin Chancellor has always been one of my all time favorites
Why not a guy like Rickey Minor who is not only a bassist, but a musical director, composer, producer, etc ?
Would love to see John Paul Jones, Bootsy Collins and Joe Dart on the show!
Steve Harris?
Stuart Zender
Guy Pratt is brilliant. What a fantastic interview.
You guys need to make this a regular show. This was awesome!!!
Yes please more like this. Hows about Winston Blisitte or Yolanda Charles. These legends need more recognition.
What a fantastic interview! I absolutely loved every second of it. Guy Pratt has such a rich history and the perfect personality to share it. Thank you for this, SBL! Ian and Scott are an amazing team.
Guy is one of the best and most underrated bassist ever!
More more MORE of this please! Hugely entertaining, Guy is a great storyteller and of course one of the best bassists around. Hats off fellas, Mark King next…? 😊
Mark is a legend, but his brother Nathan is an absolute monster player as well.
Brilliant. Absolutely love Guy Pratt. My mother-in-law bought me a copy of his book yesterday.
Really good crack with Guy... and so much interesting info about his times playing with so many great bands/artists. Brilliant stuff... BIG like 👍
Thanks to Scott and team for this great session with Guy Pratt. Mind fuzzing effing brilliant!
That bass balancing on the arm of the chair that Scott kept knocking with his elbow was really putting me on edge 😅😂😂😂
I kept waiting for Guy to notice it and yell FODERA!
For Scott, he says, his basses are tools...!
This channel is like the top gear of bass
This was a great interview with a great player
Lads this is pure bass joy! Brilliant format. More please.
"...and he's got the g-string on!
GP: excuse me?!"
HILARIOUS! 🤣
A few months ago I didn’t know anything about Guy Pratt, besides his name. He’s since became one of my favorite people in the music scene, I’ve been bingeing the podcast as well. What a lovely man.
Awesome dude!
Absolutely amazing video. Loved every minute of it, Guy is such an interesting chap! Great string challenge too!
Guy is simply THE musicians bassist! He’s a great musician, and a very entertaining person. If you haven’t yet, read his book. It’s hysterical!
As a child, I saw Guy playing on Pulse from Pink Floyd. Truly a hero!
That was fantastic! Guy Pratt what a corker he is. The string challenge is great as is the laid back production style. Really nicely done
I did? What was the song and when?cheers!
@@guypratt7104 At Dan Sells studio :)
@@goodmorningfolks That was for Diana Ross??? Wow! Thanks!
I'd love to hear more stories from Michael. A highly entertaining episode.
He has a book check it out
Me: "Oh yeah, the guy* from Toy Matinee!"
[ * no pun intended ]
This is a really cool interview! For the next string change challenge, you should get Jeff Ament and his 12 string 😂
