- Been doing mostly DB/LS videos since IB came out so I wanted to branch out a bit more again and show some love to another weapon so here's a Switch Axe run.

I love how at 1:22 you stopped because you knew the head was about to break and breaking it would've staggered the Garuga mid-air, thus making it fall to the ground and giving a massive opening.
Amazing and smart move.
The stagger management was a thing of beauty.
I feel like part of why these switchaxe runs are so fun to watch in world is cuz we're not just watching blade mode spam anymore. THIS is how switchaxe was supposed to be. Awesome run once again canta.
Couldnt agree more. In general, what they did with all the weapons in MHW and IB is stil so amazing, they nailed every single weapon to perfection.
Now everyone is spamming zero skill discharge instead

@@Smeik2901 Yep pretty much every swaxe player i see in multiplayer just spams zsd to the point of annoyance since they keep claw interrupting everyone else, funny how people deny it, it shud be nerfed and not being able to be abused imo

Nice run! This made me want to go back to learning SA. As someone who has played through Word and Iceborne with LS and CB I'm used to not backing off and playing aggressively thanks to foresight slash and guard points so I'm not trained on the patience and caution that SA seems to require. I played it for a while and enjoyed it until I started fighting stronger monsters with it and carting 😅 I think I'll give it another try.

@@monsterhunterdude5448 On most monsters, Garuga included, it isn't, at least not without a lot of resets for rng. But some like Glav and Velk and Nami have areas that can be exploited. Since Iceborne dropped more people are running SA, but less are going TA, because spamming zsd is sadly easy and often the fastest option.
A year later, almost everybody uses SA and spam ZSD on fatalis lmao

I love how you stand in front of garuga after each of its attack to lure out the somersault
close but actually no, garuga will always eventually somersault when in that radius of range (it has always been this way in the MH series: link to better understand this ua-cam.com/video/6s_Avcc8Bpw/v-deo.html ). He is sticking at garuga's right feet and circling clockwise to wait for openings while counting staggers/flinches and saves the the actual flinch/stagger/break when the garuga is mid-air for free dps. You're not that much wrong but he wasn't "Baiting or Luring Out" it was more like "Counting and Waiting"
@@yuushouma1263 Actually, he always does the tailflip after certain attacks and depending on your positioning so yeah, it was baiting.

Stop mashing triangle to discharge early which results in a shorter recovery animation

I saw a lot of speed runners did that but does not make sense to me

Yeah, but a lot of times if you arent going speedrun, the Gold Rath axe is still just as good. If you do go speedrun, use element on SwAxe
Lunar Sun yeah! Understood! I use gold rath SA with master's touch meta set. But whana try new and strong non speed run elemental SA builds, just for casual and fun runs
@@RodrigoMAOEE yeah, i use all teostra pieces, garuga legs, silver rath chest, but i only still use silver rath bc i cant find crit jewels to save my life
Gold Rathian SA is best in most cases but there are some matchups where elemental SA is better like this one

elemental phials inherently charge faster than power phials, that's all
I have a question : when you clutch, what is the point in doing a claw attack thrice ? Isn't it a dps loss ? Or does it allow a longer flich ?
It makes the monster enraged, good if you're running agitator or if you're just used to dodging their enraged moves as opposed to un-enraged moves
@@SashIsTrash yes, and I also just discoved it actually helps to soften monster parts. Because a "heavy weapon" attack is 10 pts, a "light weapon" is 5, and a claw attack is 2. And you need 10 pts to soften the part. So 3 claw slaps (3×2) + 1 light weapon attack (5) softens the part
i tried your axe rise technique on other flying wyverns, and i failed horribly
Just picked up switch axe to try something else during hunts with friends. I thought I was decent with it, turns out I don't know shit yet.

Been wanting to get better at SA, how are you starting that mounted discharge and then jumping off while in sword mode I would love to know!! Thanks for the help if you see my comment.
Get into awakened phial mode by hitting the monster in sword mode and filling the gauge.
@@CantaPerMe I understand that but you start the mounted discharge hit it only a few times, then jump off instead of the whole like 6 seconds of explosions that make you jump off, stab the ground and automatically put you in axe mode, so i was trying to find out how you do that.

Why is it that some speedrunners make the monsters rage on porpuse with the clutch claw? Small I get to make the weak spot but why heavy weapons? Does the monster change its attack patterns or something?
Yeah, monsters movesets/combos can change based on if they're enraged, for example Gold rathian will shoot 3 fireballs when un-enraged, but when enraged she only does two then does a flip (I'm unsure how garuga changes because I don't fight him much)
It's because monsters take more damage while raged, and when you flinch the monster 3x with clutchclaw you get the tenderize effect so this saves a lot of time having to look for another opening for the second CC attack for tender with light weapons.

How come when Canta's in sword mode, the damage procs twice? I mean the second damage number seems lower. Is this a new iceborne thing I don't know about? Or maybe specific to the weapon or armor skills? Thanks in advanced to anyone who will answer.

im on pc, realized i had the same build, but the damage man... i wont upgrade full element on the weapon and keep a regen, but wow 96 during the discharge ... stunned

2. Why enrage when you have no agitator?

1. Most of the time, yeah, I still dunno if you can bait it 100% of the time tho but it's fairly consistent
2. To trigger the enrage animation which is another opening for me. Also enraged Garuga can do the tailflip twice in a row which gives me some leeway if I miscalculate the hits and dont get the aerial dunk on the first hit.
3. Because it does more damage in this case

At the start, don't you want to knock it to the wall?
We don't use the flinch shot in TA runs. The idea behind the TA ruleset is to make use of your weapon to create and exploit openings so using the flinch shots for easy free hits goes against that idea.
If you don't want to play with self imposed limitations tho then yeah, you definitely want to knock it against the wall.

What does TA rules means?
tl;dr no cat, no mantle, no traps, flinch shot or other means of "free cc". The idea behind this style of speedrun is to mainly use your weapon to take down the monster instead of every game mechanic at your disposal.
